00:00The championship last night, it was Queen's Park won, Livingston won, it's another one of your...
00:03If you could do this all day, couldn't we? I mean, he's played for them all just a bit, but
00:07Queen's Park against Livingston, a point apiece. Queen's Park getting their first point on board
00:12of the season. It's against the team last week, they played against a team that were up from
00:16League One, this time they're playing against a team that's come down from the Premiership.
00:20They'll be happy enough with that, do you think? Yeah, I think getting your first point on the
00:24board is important for a team like Queen's Park. It's going to be a difficult season for them.
00:29I think they've added a little bit of experience to their squad, which I think is a good thing.
00:34I think they're a little bit young and light. And the guys that have been there for another season
00:38in championship football, they'll understand it more of what the demands are and how you get
00:43wins in that league. So I think it was a positive result for them. Livingston are probably a little
00:48bit disappointed maybe that they didn't go and get all three points. But listen, we spoke about
00:52how hard this league is going to be. It's going to be very difficult to get three points week in,
00:57week out. I was just thinking there, Callum Davidson and David Martindale, not so long ago,
01:02both in the Premiership, just before that as well. League Cup final at Hampden, now they're back at
01:07Leicester Hampden. Yeah, a bit of a different environment to be playing in. But I think for
01:12Livingston, they found themselves a goal behind. And I think the way the game had gone, they're
01:16probably delighted with an away point. But I mean, as Cammy said, it's going to be so difficult to
01:23find that route back out of the Championship and into the Prem.
01:26Ipartic Thistle struggling a wee bit, Cammy?
01:28Yeah, but listen, it's early on in the season and I think what's going to be important this season...
01:32They're running for goals by the looks of things.
01:34Yeah, they are at the moment. But I'm pretty sure they'll pick that up. They've got players
01:37that can certainly do it. But what I think is going to be important for the Championships
01:40this season is teams getting a good run. If you go on a really good run of games,
01:45and I think that's going to be really difficult to do this season, then I think you can sort of
01:49pull away and get yourself ahead of the rest of the teams.
01:52Tell you what, folks, I think we'll have a wee bounce around the Premiership grounds again,
01:56just see what's happening. We'll speak to Martin and Ian at the games. We'll start with
02:01Martin Dowden. He is at the National Stadium, Rangers against Motherwell. Still 2-1.
02:06I was going to say the home side.
02:16We appear to have lost Martin, but it's still 2-1. Have you guys been keeping eyes on it?
02:19I have been watching it. And again, I think Motherwell have been putting a little bit of
02:23pressure on Rangers because they know they want to throw everything at it and have a go. But
02:28yes, it's probably not ideal for Rangers at this moment in time.
02:34Martin, I believe, has joined us once again. Martin, are you all right?
02:38Yes, a little technical error there, David. All my fault, of course. Yes,
02:42it's 87 and a half minutes on the clock. Still Rangers 2, Motherwell 1. But I have to say,
02:47this is night and day from the first half as McCausland goes in. Team shot in the end,
02:52but Motherwell have just been inching forward. I heard Julie earlier
02:55referring to a great chance for Zach Robinson. Jack Butland forced into a really good save.
03:00And without overly peppering the Rangers goal, Motherwell are getting up the pitch.
03:05They've got a few minutes to go now. And I think Kami might have said this earlier as well.
03:09I suspect, and there it is, Stuart Kettlewell just putting his fist up and
03:15roaring his players forward in search of an unlikely equaliser at one point.
03:19Still in the balance, it's Rangers 2, Motherwell 1.
03:23Motherwell are making a real fist of this, Julie.
03:25They are. It looks quite nervous from Rangers. I think Motherwell are
03:30certainly braver at this stage in the game. They're throwing bodies forward. You can see
03:33in the Rangers penalty box, they've got numerous opportunities. Every time there's a chance for a
03:39long throw, they're delivering the ball into the box. And it is really nervy times because at 2-1,
03:46it is a nervy scoring line.
03:47So Rangers still on top at Hampden. What's happening at Dingwall, Ross County,
03:51Dundee United, Ian? United still on top?
03:54It's all square here in Dingwall, David. The goal has just gone in for Ross County.
03:59They've thrown everything at United in the last few minutes or so. Alex Samuel and Jordan White
04:04have been added into the action, and it was Alex Samuel providing the assist down the right-hand
04:09side, squared the ball into the box, and Ronan Hale, a summer signing from Northern Ireland there
04:15to convert from 12 yards out, he fired the ball past Jack Walton. And as an equaliser,
04:21we've got about three minutes to go here in Dingwall, one apiece.
04:24Thanks very much, Ian. Three minutes to go there, but I believe it's all over at
04:27Kapilo Morton versus Hamilton in the Championship. Let's have a round up from Gully.
04:34Yes, David, a share of the spoils here at Kapilo,
04:360-0 it's ended between Greenock Morton and Hamilton. The home side, though,
04:40will feel they should have been a goal up going into halftime. Owen Moffat,
04:43with a host of chances in the first 45, had he shown more composure, he would have found the net.
04:48Michael Garrity was cleaned through, but put out wide of the right-hand post for Morton on 20
04:53minutes, with a clear warning for the Yankees' defence. John Rankin signed really threatened
04:59in the first half, but showed much more intent at the start of the second with
05:02Nikolai Todorov's curling strike. Morton set their sights on goal. A goal yet again on 57
05:08minutes. Ali Crawford with a looping ball over the defence. Michael Garrity latched on
05:13and shot straight at the Hamilton keeper, Charlie Aubinson. The game did become rather disjointed
05:18over the course of the last 20 minutes. The home side made a host of changes to no avail. Both
05:23teams have yet to score this season in their opening two Scottish Championship games.
05:27Full-time here at Kapilo, Greenock Morton 0-0, Hamilton Akies 0-0.
05:31So you go for Morton, two games, no goals for, no goals against, two points?
05:36No, I think that'll be a concern for them. I think they had kind of sticky patches last
05:41season as well, but they had a really long spell where they were extremely successful and
05:47I think Kapilo's a difficult place to go, but if you're struggling to find the back of the net,
05:51then the best that you're going to get is a point and I think certainly against Hamilton,
05:56that's a game that they would have been looking to win. First point on the board for the Akies,
06:01Yeah, and again, newly promoted side coming up, so it's a different league, it's going to take
06:05them time to adjust, so they'll be happy with getting a point. As I said before about Queens
06:09Park, getting your first point on the board takes a little bit of the pressure off, so
06:13yeah, I'm pretty sure John Rankin will be happy with that.
06:16That's no goals for Akies so far either though.
06:18Yeah, no, listen, as I say, I think it's a transitional period when you go from League
06:22One to Championship. Understanding the league is going to take them a little bit of time, so
06:28as I say, John will probably be happy with where he's at at the moment.
06:31Brian McLaughlin is next, he has a full-time
06:34report from the match in Fife, Wraith Rovers against Partick Thistle, Brian?
06:39Yeah, well they may be looking for a new manager, but they somehow found a way to
06:43collect all three points this afternoon, it finished Wraith Rovers 1, Partick Thistle 0.
06:47The only goal coming from the penalty spot after 27 minutes, Don Easton on target after Lewis Gibson
06:54had been brought down. Partick Thistle with way, way more of the game indeed,
06:59should have been ahead early on, it was a Brian Graham shot from 25 yards just wide,
07:04and then Milne with a cross, parried out by Dabrowski into the path of Graham,
07:08only for the Wraith defence to somehow manage to clear away the danger.
07:13Fitzpatrick then into the second period, a shot that looked destined for the top corner,
07:17only to be tipped away by Dabrowski, and then a Milne shot this time again,
07:21saved by Dabrowski this time, low down to his right-hand side. A red card though
07:26for Partick Thistle came with just 13 minutes left in the clock, Scott Robinson
07:30showing a straight red card after a horrendous challenge on Aidan Connolly. Wraith almost
07:36snagged a second, Milne with an effort for 25 yards that came crashing off the crossbar.
07:42Wraith hope to have a manager in place for their next league game away to Air United
07:47in two weeks' time. They do have a preferred candidate, he'll come here on the back of three
07:52points to gain today here against Partick Thistle. We're back to the Premiership now,
08:00it's full time in the match between Ross County and Dundee United, so let's hear from Ian.
08:04Yeah, full time here in Dingwall, David, and it's a share of the spoils with Ross County
08:09finding an equaliser deep into second half stoppage time. The Arabs will feel hard done
08:14by, they should have found the back of the net inside the opening 17 seconds of the game when
08:19York van der Sand caught Will Nightingale in possession, he raced through on goal and squared
08:23for Miller-Thompson, but the Derby hero last weekend could only blast over from four yards out.
08:29County were presented with a chance to break the deadlock when Jack Walton fouled Ronan Hale
08:34inside the box, Eamon Brophy stepped up from 12 yards, but Walton redeemed himself to make a save
08:40down low to his right-hand side. Jim Goodwin was a frustrated man throughout the first 45 minutes,
08:45but happier within two minutes of the restart with captain David Babinski producing the smile
08:51on his manager's face. Will Ferry skipped in the left-hand side into the box to pick out the former
08:56Barcelona man who calmly slotted past Ross Laidlaw in the County goal. United went close again through
09:02Babinski and fellow Macedonian Trapanovski, and just when it looked like all three points was
09:07heading back to Tayside, County found a leveller in stoppage time in the second half. Alex Samuel
09:12on as the second half sub down the right-hand side, wonderful ball into the box and there was
09:17Ronan Hale, the summer signing from Cliftonville to fire past Jack Walton. Full-time here in Dingwall,
09:23Ross County 1, Dundee United 1. We're heading back to Fife and back to the Championship,
09:27Dunfermline against Falkirk has reached its conclusion, so it's over to Amy. Falkirk continue
09:33their superb start to the season, David, with their first win at East End Park in five years
09:38against Dunfermline as they made it two wins from two since returning to the Scottish Championship.
09:42If you're looking at that score thinking that's not the score she told me last time round because
09:45there's been a goal since she last came to me. That win that they have just secured was always
09:50looking likely, but it wasn't really secure until the final five minutes when Kane Richley-Hosler,
09:55who was actually quite a positive on a poor afternoon for the pars, clattered into Ross
09:59McIver and left referee Matthew McDermott with no option but to point to the spot.
10:05Callum Morrison duly stepped up with his penalty prompting Bedlam in the packed East stand as
10:11they are still bouncing to be honest with you and it has ensured Dunfermline's winless run would
10:16stretch to five. Ross McIver who was fouled, he opened the scoring inside six minutes slotting
10:21after fantastic work from Keelan Adams down the right-hand flank. Like I said, given their vastly
10:26differing starts to the season, many would have expected the visitors to perhaps take
10:31total control against their bitter rivals, but victory wasn't wrapped up until the final five
10:37minutes. James McPakeside lacked a spark up top in their five game unbeaten run against Falkirk,
10:42ended on a bit of a whimper. All over here, East End Park, Dunfermline athletic nil, Falkirk two.
10:47Martin Dowden is back now with the news of Rangers versus Motherwell and a first
10:52in the league season. For Rangers, Martin. It is full-time Rangers two, Motherwell one,
10:57Vaclav Czerny has made an early name for himself with his first half beauty. Ultimately,
11:02the difference between the sides when it seemed early on that difference was as wide as the
11:06River Clyde. It wasn't by full-time though, but just enough, Czerny burnt a cracker home
11:11to restore Rangers' lead and earn the win after being pegged back in very unusual fashion.
11:16Cyril Dessard had earlier netted from Diamondi's knockdown and it seemed Philippe Clement's side
11:22would coast this, but debutant Robin Proper couldn't believe it when a diverted cross came
11:27his way and he somehow managed to prod it past his own goalkeeper. Czerny's intervention soon
11:32followed though and it seemed so would Rangers' goal, but no, and as the game wore on, it became
11:37more scrappy, more even, and credit to Motherwell for that. They were denied an unlikely second
11:42equaliser when Butland had to pull off an excellent save to deny Zach Robinson. They came
11:46very close again, a free kick diverted just over late on. It's three points in the bag for Rangers,
11:52some signs of real promise first half, but also things to work on given they didn't shut the door
11:57on a, at one stage, teetering well. Full-time Rangers two, Motherwell one. Three points for
12:03Rangers, a point apiece for Ross County and Dundee United. Quite a dramatic match that one.
12:08Yeah, it certainly was and it was a brilliant end of the match for Ross County with Hale getting
12:12that goal. It was Samuels who put the ball across to him, really influential in that passage of play
12:18and then Hale's there to tap it away, so a big point for them because they don't want to lose
12:22points at home, so it was a big goal. I think he was desperate to take the penalty as well that
12:26Brophy missed, so just as well he got his goal, but he looks a decent sign, doesn't he? He does,
12:31yeah, and he had a good League Cup campaign and took it off the mark now and the league was really
12:37important, I think, for your strikers. You want to make sure that they hit the ground running as
12:42early as possible because, I mean, there's big shoes to fill. Simon Murray was a great
12:45player for Ross County last year. He chipped in with goals, he was really hard working,
12:50he had assists, so really difficult to try and fill those shoes, but certainly, I think,
12:55when you hear Don Cowie speaking, then he's been impressed with Ronan Hale so far.
13:00That's two games for both sides, Cammy. Two points, two draws.
13:04Yeah, it is and, listen, it probably shows you the teams that they've all played where
13:08Ross County obviously playing Motherwell last week and then the Dundee Derby, they're all
13:11pretty similar and going to be very close, especially when they find their feet in this
13:15first few weeks of the season. So, yeah, I think both sides are probably quite comfortable with
13:20their start to the league campaign. I enjoyed watching the goalkeeper's reaction when he
13:24saved that penalty. It was kind of impassive, no celebration. Is that because he gave it away?
13:29I was going to say it's probably because he made the mistake initially up to the penalty and then
13:33he's redeemed himself, so, listen, he'll be happy with his day's work.
13:37OK, folks, I think it is now just about five o'clock-ish and that usually means
13:42it's time for the Classified Results Roundup and today, my friends, is no exception.
13:52Here we go. Eyes down for a full house, folks. We start with the William Hill Scottish Premiership,
13:58Rangers 2, Motherwell 1, Ross County 1, Dundee United 1, Dundee versus Hearts is a 5.30 kick-off,
14:05three matches tomorrow, Hibernian against Celtic, Aberdeen versus St Mirren
14:09and Kilmarnock at home to St Johnstone.
14:15Into the Scottish Championship, Air United 5, Air Drionians 0 and Queens Park 1, Livingston 1,
14:20those matches were played last night, Dunfermline Athletic 0, Falkirk 2,
14:25Morton 0, Hamilton Academical 0, Wraith Rovers 1, Partick Thistle 0.
14:33Into League 1, Annan Athletic 1, Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0, Arbroath 0, Montrose 0,
14:39Dunbarton 3, Alloa Athletic 3, Kelty Hearts 2, Stennis Muir 0, Queen of the South 2, Cove Rangers 1.
14:48And in League 2, Clyde 1, Stranraer 0, East Fife 2, Edinburgh City 0, Peterhead 2, Forther Athletic 1,
14:56the Spartans 2, Bonnie Rigg Rose 0, Stirling Albion 0, Elgin City 1.
15:05Let's go on to the English Community Shield, no Premiership matches yet, the season's not started,
15:10it's Manchester City 1, Manchester United 1 and that has gone to a penalty shootout.
15:18In the Championship in England, Blackburn Rovers 4, Derby County 2, Preston North End 0, Sheffield United 2,
15:29Cardiff City 0, Sunderland 2, Hull City 1, Bristol City 1, Leeds United 3, Portsmouth 3,
15:38Middlesbrough 1, Swansea City 0, Millwall 2, Watford 3, Oxford United 2, Norwich City 0,
15:46Queen's Park Rangers 1, West Bromwich Albion 3, Stoke City 1, Coventry City 0,
15:52Sheffield Wednesday play Plymouth Argyll tomorrow and on Monday it's Luton Town versus Burnley.
15:59Into League 1, just step one match has been played so far, Barnsley 1, Mansfield Town 2,
16:05the rest of the games there all kick off this evening.
16:10On to League 2, Chesterfield 1, Swindon Town 1, AFC Wimbledon 4, Colchester United 2, that's our latest score,
16:18Barrow 1, Crewe Alexandra 0, Cheltenham Town 3, Newport County 2, Doncaster Rovers 4, Accrington Stanley 1,
16:27Fleetwood Town 1, Grimsby Town 0, Gillingham 4, Carlisle United 1, Harrogate Town 0, Bromley 2,
16:35Milton Keynes Dons 1, Bradford City 2, Salford City 0, Port Vale 2, Tranmere Rovers 0,
16:42Notts County 0, Walsall 1, Morecambe 0. There we go. Now here's a funny thing folks, I was reading
16:51those classified results out and I don't know, I was maybe distracted but my mind was saying
16:56how come, why is it that some of those teams are in bold type? Did you work it out? That was the
17:03teams that were winning. It was the teams that were winning. We've been so focused on this penalty shootout.
17:09I was halfway through reading them and I thought why are they in bold type? Anyway, so that means
17:12in the premiership they had only one team in bold type and that is Rangers. A narrow win, good in the
17:17first half, let Motherwell back into it in the second. Yeah I think first half they were really
17:22good. I think the goal came kind of against the run of play. I don't think Motherwell deserved to
17:28get a goal at that moment in time but second half you could possibly justify that they did
17:32deserve. They put a lot of pressure on Rangers. They limited them to few opportunities and they
17:38did have a great opportunity had it not been for Jack Butland who made an outstanding save.
17:44Jack Butland at it again. Listen, a brilliant save and those question marks over pre-season, I heard a
17:49number of Rangers fans mention he'd made a couple of mistakes in pre-season but listen, see as soon
17:53as the real stuff starts, Jack Butland for me was always going to be a really important player
17:57and he showed that today because as Julie said, that was such an important save at that moment
18:01in the second half. He may have made a couple of mistakes pre-season but I bet they're still
18:05delighted that he's there. Yeah I think he, when you look at last season and his performances and
18:11big games, he's a player that not only on the pitch but off the pitch as well, he's really
18:16influential and I think all of the players at Rangers will be delighted that he's the man that's
18:21behind him. Hopefully we'll hear from Stuart Kettlewell later and I was going to say he'll be
18:27happy. He won't be happy at not picking anything up from the game but he'll have to be happy with
18:31that second half performance given what we mentioned earlier, the extent of injuries that
18:35they've got. Absolutely and again, probably a little bit of belief in what he said to his players
18:40at half-time to understand the way they want to play, be comfortable on the ball and they've done
18:46that in the second half. They posed a threat to Rangers and they were well within the game in
18:50the last five, ten minutes. The momentum was towards Motherwell pushing Rangers back,
18:55those long throw-ins, free kicks, corners coming in so he'll be happy with the way they've
19:00played and shown today. We're going to take a wee break from the SPFL for a few moments because there
19:06were three Scottish clubs in European action and three first leg draws, would you believe? Rangers
19:10entering the fray in the third round of Champions League qualifying. They were in Poland to play
19:15Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv who had thrashed Partizan Belgrade 9-2 in aggregate in the
19:20previous round and can we fair to say Rangers may be surprising a few folk by coming out of this
19:25with a draw? Yeah I think the first half was difficult for Rangers. Down this left-hand
19:29side we lose the goal here, Yomaz loses the ball on the halfway line and then Conor Barron slides
19:34in. I don't think he needs to do that and when the ball comes across for me John Shooter either
19:38needs to stay with the striker or go and shut the front area off but they were struggling down that
19:43left-hand side but they really picked up in the second half. They played a lot better, they changed
19:47the left-hand side, they looked much more structured and this was obviously the last minute of the game
19:52when Cherney puts in a fantastic ball into the box and there he is, the man that gets criticised a
19:56lot, Cyril Dessos, goes right to the end and scores such an important goal for me and that
20:02goal gives him real belief coming back to Hamden on Tuesday night because I think if you go 1-0
20:07back to Hamden it's a much more difficult tie. Kyiv have got something to hold on to but I think
20:13going 1-1 I think Rangers will definitely fancy themselves. What do you think Julie, do you fancy
20:17their prospects? I was certainly impressed, pleasantly surprised by their performance.
20:22I wasn't expecting it, I felt that their away tie would be a really tricky one for them but I think
20:29they started the game really well, they were pressing, they had opportunities and they were
20:33definitely in the game of course. Kyiv were dangerous going forward and I think they'd be
20:39disappointed with the way they defended that opportunity when they did score but to get back
20:45into the game and to do it so late on, when you do that it almost feels like a win so going into
20:50the game the players will go into the second leg in high spirits I'm sure. It was kind of
20:55almost a narrative changing result in terms of a lot of doom and gloom about Rangers and this
21:01big rebuild in the stadium and having to play at Hamden and then that result kind of elevated the
21:06mood a wee bit shall we say? Absolutely and I think listening off the back of the 0-0 at Hearts
21:10which was quite a flat performance, we'll all agree with that and then they've went out to Kyiv
21:15knowing that Kyiv have scored nine in the game before to get to that stage, probably Rangers fans
21:21think they're up against it but they've produced a great performance and as I say they've given
21:24us all every chance on Tuesday night to go and progress from this. Well let's talk about the
21:28Conference League, Samir and Ancal Barnock both in qualifying action there on Thursday, Samir at home
21:34to SK Brann of Bergen and they came out with a draw and that's when I was at the game Julian I
21:39have to say I thought Brann were a really really good team. Yeah and I think that's a brilliant
21:44result for St Mirren, we talked about the late goal for Rangers similarly, St Mirren found
21:51themselves a goal behind and really difficult to try and get yourself back into the game at that
21:56late stage but I mean they left it extremely late. A wee bit of controversy about this goal but we don't
22:01need to go into that. But yeah I mean to score right at the death again as I say it feels like
22:08a victory and really important that they go over there with that type of result and yes Brann
22:15as you say are a great side but you just never know what could happen on the night. Yeah it's a
22:20shame Cammy, we only actually saw Valery Balkan there was him conceding because he made a number
22:27of really impressive saves and he looks like a tremendous recruit for St Mirren. Absolutely and
22:32again I think what's happened over the last probably four or five seasons I've had really
22:37good goalkeepers and goalkeepers have all progressed and moved on to other clubs so yeah
22:42he looks as if another steady goalkeeper behind the defence and Stephen Normanson will be delighted
22:48the way he started because it's always hard as a goalkeeper coming into a new club and finding
22:52your feet and he's started the season really well. It'll be tough for them though going to Bergen on Thursday?
22:58Yeah that will be a completely different game I think considering how good they looked over here
23:05I think we'll see a different side and I think St Mirren will need to be very very structured in
23:11terms of their defensive play and just hope and they do have people that can can help them on
23:15the break. Komarnik also go to Norway a wee bit further north they're in the Arctic Circle
23:21in Tromsø don't think it'll be any colder than it was in Komarnik the other night but
23:25they've got a two-all draw from the first leg and they went ahead early on Cammy
23:31let that slip and then right at the death they got the draw with a young fella called Bobby Wales
23:36Absolutely what a moment for Bobby Wales right with the last kick of the ball basically getting
23:41that that equaliser but it started off so well six minutes Vesel gets the goal and you almost think
23:46Komarnik are going to walk through this Tromsø 13th in the Norwegian league so
23:50when you compare them to Bran you think it's a drop-off but I was really impressed when I was
23:53at the game and I was really impressed the way they played football they played through the
23:57thuds and they took control of the game and for for large spells they got their two goals but
24:01as I spoke about before that moment that Bobby Wales gets the ball was an instinctive striker's
24:06goal the ball just fell on his feet and he just sweeped it away into the back of net and that's
24:09a big goal for Killie give them belief going over in Norway knowing it's going to be a difficult tie
24:14Well Derek McKinnon's unhappy with the goals he described them as a couple of sloppy goals
24:18Yeah listen they were they were very sloppy really avoidable goals and again probably decision making
24:23at the time from defensive point of view I felt as if the second goal was a breakaway up the front
24:28up the pitch from Tromsø, Komarnik had a corner Tromsø break up the pitch and Polov had the
24:33opportunity to take take a foul take him out for the team take a yellow card he didn't do that
24:38they eventually score so yes it's a learning curve for Komarnik
24:41Maybe a wee bit unlucky with the penalty being overturned
24:44Yeah the referee gave it and but again when you watch it back I think the goalkeeper did make
24:49enough contact with the ball he makes certainly makes contact with the defender
24:52for Komarnik but I think he makes enough contact with the ball for it to be overturned
24:56And they've got a fair chance of going through you would think they're
24:59away to Tromsø but Tromsø not faring as well as Bran in the league
25:06No but I think when you when you look at it these types of games their kind of league form
25:11goes out the window and they've got an awful lot to lose so I think they'll definitely be the
25:15happier side it's going to be their home tie are almost starting from scratch and Komarnik need to
25:21go out there I think one of the most surprising things for me about this season is how Komarnik
25:26have defended I think they have lost goals that probably last season they wouldn't lose
25:31Is that just a wee bit of the early season rustiness?
25:33Well hopefully hopefully that's all it is because they are a team who are really reliable
25:38defensively and I think they've probably lost goals that are a bit sloppy for from a Komarnik
25:42point of view and that's one thing that they'll want to try and change as quickly as possible
25:47That's a big concern going into the north
25:50Yeah certainly the the sloppiness as I agree with Julie there's been a number of goals that have
25:54cost them this season and Derek McInnes is aware of that he'll be aware that I'll be drilling it
25:58into his players get back to where you are get back to basic defending make sure you don't give
26:02goals to teams and I think they've got the players at the top end of the pitch with
26:06regards to Matty Kennedy, Danny Armstrong, Vassell they can hurt teams if they can keep
26:10the door closed at the back
26:13What do you think of the three teams how many do you think will be progressing to the next
26:17the next round of qualifying?
26:18Well I'm hoping for three
26:20We're hoping for three I think I think the position that we're in just now we have to
26:24have that belief in our teams I think in previous we haven't always done that well at this stage in
26:30the competition so certainly I think all three teams are in a reasonable position to
26:36to go into this second leg
26:38Clean sweep for you
26:39You've got to be positive we've had so many negative years where there's been embarrassment
26:43to Scottish football so hopefully all three can go through
26:46Tell you what Hearts haven't yet entered the European fray that's a wee bit later this
26:50month they're in action tonight though in the Premiership they're away to Dundee and
26:56Rob McLean is at Den's Park for Dundee's first home game of the season new pitch and everything
27:02Rob how's it looking?
27:03Yeah it's the first game here for Dundee David in three months and it is looking good although
27:08I guess if you're being cynical you'd say well it should look good in August and actually
27:12nobody's played on it so far but just speaking to Tony Docherty there and he seems pretty
27:16confident that it is a good surface they've put a lot of work and a lot of money into it
27:20and that it will be able to sustain all the traffic on top of it in the course of the
27:24season hopefully we're not talking about the pitch this season we're talking about what's
27:28happening on top of it it is Dundee against Hearts both picked up a point on the opening
27:33weekend both make one change to their teams here for this evening's game both change their
27:39shape as well Dundee leave out 20 year old Luke Graham who was left of a back three last
27:44weekend in the derby they bring in Scott Tiffany and reshuffle so John McCracken in goals Ingram
27:52Portales, McGee and Larkesh, Silla, McCowan, Cameron, Tiffany, Murray and Palmer Holden
28:01that's the starting 11 for Dundee and the change for Hearts sees the former Brentford player
28:07Daniel Oyegoke an England under-20 international he comes in to join Ryan Kent and Kai Rolls
28:15in defence so those three plus Oyegoke in front of us
28:20oh he's cut off in his prime there we might we might rejoin Rob a little later but i think we
28:24got a good graphic representation of the lineups here this is an intriguing game tonight Julia
28:30I think Dundee so impressive last season got that top six finish a good point away at Dundee
28:39United last week yeah I think they've started the season well again I think showing a lot of
28:44character last weekend in the in their derby to come back twice I think they've they look like
28:51the same side as they had last season they look like they're going to be hungry and trying to
28:56fight and hang on to that place that they managed to secure last season so I think being back at
29:02their home ground first game of the season there and a new pitch pristine pitch what more can you
29:08ask for but I don't think it's raining yet for me I was impressed with Hearts as well last weekend I
29:13felt going forward they looked like they had a lot of firepower I felt that Vargas, Shanklin,
29:19Mackay all looked really dangerous when they were on the ball they were attacking with a lot of pace
29:24had that support from midfield and they were really brave on the ball so I think it'll be a
29:28really tough game for Dundee and I'm hoping that same Hearts side come out again I was interested
29:33there Tiffany starting for Dundee and he seemed to be instrumental in the kind of change of tone for
29:40Dundee in the second half last week yeah listen he's an important player Tiffany and he brings
29:45that he can bring that energy that quality to your to your side and I think Tony Docherty's
29:49obviously realised that he wanted to get him in from the start to to try and put the impetus on
29:54winning this game at home first home game at Dens with the new pitch as we said so it's an
30:00opportunity for them to try and start the season well but I agree with Julia I was impressed with
30:04Hearts last week I think they've got some real firepower Barry Mackay coming back hopefully he
30:08can stay fit this full season because he's a he's a big player for Hearts Penn Rice started the
30:12season well a new signing so it'll be an intriguing one and a new con a contract extension rather for
30:18the Hearts manager Stephen Naismith this time last season a few folk weren't convinced about
30:23yeah listen he had a brilliant season for me overall it was a tough start it was he's new
30:28to management as well so I think Hearts have just rewarded them with a longer term contract and
30:33it's exciting to see so that match tonight Dundee versus Hearts kicks off at 5.30 you can listen to
30:38live commentary in Sports Sound there are three games in the Premiership tomorrow starting at
30:42half past 12 has reigning champion Celtic visit Easter Road then on the back of their conference
30:48league exertions Kilmarnock and St Mirren are both in action not against each other though the
30:52buddies away to Aberdeen Kelly at home to St Johnson Sunday Sports Sound and Sports Scene
30:58highlights are all over them now this might have Hibs fans quaking in their boots folks because
31:05it's a Celtic against Kilmarnock last week and it's a convincing win for Celtic over Kilmarnock
31:10who gave Celtic problems last season yeah absolutely I think when you look at this year
31:16and Brad Lyons gave the ball away and it was a great start Hitachi getting the goal there
31:20and but they were really really impressive I was at Celtic Park on Sunday and I was really
31:24impressed by them and they look a real threat look really hungry again Nicholas Coon who who
31:30plays a big part in this third goal looked a different player he looks like a new signing
31:35to me he looks very hungry confident so it'll be interesting to see how they go but yeah I'll be
31:40worried if it was Hibs off the back of last week's performance a lot of promise you would
31:44think for the season ahead from Coon on the back of that performance Julie yeah I think that what
31:49they seem to have is real key players playing at the top of their game already since the season
31:55started I think you've seen James Forreston there and he's a really important player he's somebody
32:01that has been there and done it all he's somebody that can be influential both on and off the park
32:05and then you've got players like Kyogo who last season yes he was still an important player for
32:11them but he probably didn't hit the heights that he had the season before but already
32:15he looks to be back to to his best and we all know what a threat he can be when you get your
32:20thoughts on Celtic's new goalkeeper can we yeah Kasper Schmeichel a brilliant signing a really
32:25really important saying again he didn't have a lot to do on Sunday but what I did see was
32:28Komanek try to press high the second half man v man and he's with the ball at his feet he was
32:34so confident was just whipping balls into the midfield and I think that'll be a real threat for
32:39for Celtic going forward and the way they can build attacks through their goalkeeper I think
32:43he's a slight upgrade with his feet than Joe Hart but yeah top goalkeeper all the experience
32:48in the world and he'll be able to handle that club no problem clean sheet for him last week
32:53Hibbs though at home to Celtic tomorrow conceded three away to St Mirren last weekend and it was
33:00the old defensive frailties again Julie it was they looked extremely vulnerable at the back I
33:05think and they did have their opportunities before St Mirren scored Venti and Boyle both had chances
33:11to to put Hibbs in front and I think for me that has been a weakness in in their side but this
33:18goal what an incredible finish that is and he cuts onto his right foot and just finds that side man
33:24and yeah I was surprised I was surprised at the score line of course St Mirren are off to a
33:29great start this season but I was certainly expecting a lot more from from Hibbs I think
33:36they just didn't score at the right time and then they found themselves I hear we looking at talking
33:40earlier about their defensive vulnerabilities and they give the ball away still plenty to do and
33:47I was surprised that managed to sneak into this corner but goals two and three for St Mirren if
33:53we're looking at it from their point of view it's two subs that come on to the pitch and
33:57it just shows you that they do have strength and depth within their squad this season and
34:01again he's got far too much time and space and just to drive forward he lifts his head and
34:07there should be somebody tighter to Smith there it's an easy finish in the end
34:12but yet to have lost three goals away from home to St Mirren you're up against Celtic next you've
34:17got a really tricky league cup tie again against Celtic the next week it's a tough tough start for
34:23David Graham. St Mirren heading north this week because they're in Norway on Thursday but they're
34:28in Aberdeen tomorrow and this is a tough one for St Mirren but also a tough one you'd have to say
34:36for Aberdeen given the form St Mirren are in. Absolutely a brilliant game to look forward to
34:41that's what I would say with two teams that are sort of high-flying I would say Aberdeen have
34:45started the season really well in the league cup campaign took that into the league campaign
34:49St Mirren have had so much success in European football and then started the league campaign
34:55really well as well so it's a great game to look forward to and I genuinely think it could be a
35:00cracker tomorrow. Tell you what we can bring you some post-match reaction from today's premiership
35:05action we're going to hear from Ross County's goal scorer and their one-all draw with Dundee
35:09United Ronan Hale. Ronan great feeling for you you've just scored a late equaliser to give Ross
35:16County a share of the spoilers today talk to us about the emotions at the end there. Yeah it was
35:21obviously great character from the boys to come back after going behind so early in the second
35:26half but you know we dug in right to the end and I thought we could have nicked it if it was maybe
35:30a couple of minutes more we could have nicked it but listen it's a point at home obviously we
35:34wanted to be three but you know we'll take it move on. A great feeling as well scoring a last
35:39minute equaliser given the fact that United looked like they were heading towards all three as well
35:43a great moment for you personally having just joined the club you know to get that reception
35:48and that to reaction from the fans at the end. Yeah of course it's great to get that goal in
35:53the league obviously I've scored in the cup but it's to get that first SPL goal that pushed me
35:58on for the next few weeks and in the future so it was a great performance from the boys and I'm
36:02really happy to get the equaliser. Let's gauge the mood of United manager Jim Goodwin now.
36:09Jim a frustrating one in the end there for you give us your assessment of the draw with Ross
36:14County today. A real disappointment in the way that we conceded the equaliser you know we've got
36:21three of our players going and competing for the initial long ball with one Ross County player
36:28and we've got to take control of that situation and manage that a bit better
36:32and then the back line becomes disjointed because of that and you know I think there
36:37was a number of poor decisions in that particular sequence of play we've got to go and deal with the
36:42first ball better and then we've got to make sure that we're picking up the players who are likely
36:49to put the ball into the back of the net and I think you know we end up marking space beyond the
36:53near post when there's a 2v1 in the middle of the goal and it was a you know a simple finish in the
36:58end for the Ross County striker and it's you know it's one of real disappointment because when you
37:05get to that stage of the game you could argue did we deserve to win the game over the whole
37:10piece probably not given how poor we were in the first 45 minutes but to get to that latter part
37:16of the game where you're you know in the fifth minute of added on time you've just got to see
37:20the game out and you know had we done that then it would have been a brilliant three points because
37:25we know how difficult it is up here you know prior to the game today you know Ross County only lost
37:29one of the last 11 games here so we knew it was going to be a tough fixture in a difficult venue
37:34but you know the response I suppose and the reaction after halftime is a positive but it's
37:41going to you know take a little time to get over the way the game finished disappointed but a fair
37:47assessment of proceedings from what you witnessed yeah I would say so I think that both teams had
37:54opportunities Ross County obviously had the penalty that was missed and I think Dundee
37:59United going ahead they probably deserved it at that point in the game but they didn't see the
38:05game out well I think he summed that up really well it's about managing the game at that stage
38:10and I don't think they did that well enough and they allowed Ross County to come back into it
38:15and they did eventually get that goal it was a great finish yes he finds himself with plenty
38:20of space into the box but when the ball comes over Ronan Hale makes absolutely no mistake
38:27Tell you what folks we're just about out of time we're just about out of time there so I'll just
38:32have to bid you all farewell because that's us for another week I'm afraid the football continues
38:37on sports sound later on don't forget the highlight shows tonight and tomorrow thank you
38:43very much to Julie and to Cami for our efforts today and the rest of the family take care
