00:18Three games today in the Premiership, two afoot and one this evening, and five matches
00:23in the Championship.
00:24Plus, lots more to talk about in the pleasant company of Julie Fleeting and Cammy Bell.

00:29Let's find out what's happening around the grounds.
00:32First stop is Dens Park.
00:33We will call upon Mr Tyrone Smith who's watching Dundee against St Mirren.

00:42It's Dundee 1, St Mirren 2.
00:44A real rip-snort, a humdinger of a game so far.
00:48Just to set the scene after this transfer deadline night move to Celtic.
00:52It's life after Luke McEwen's getting underway for the home side.
00:56It's also made a late deadline move last night, bringing in Kevin Van Veen on loan
01:01from Groningen, but the big Dutchman isn't in the squad for today's game.
01:06As for the match itself, well, it was a terrific, lively start, real end-to-end stuff.
01:11But the first real chance it came on 20 minutes, Dundee midfielder Mo Silla, who drilled a
01:17low shot from 25 yards, Curtis Mayne stuck out a boot, but instead of directing the ball
01:22into the net, he directed it inches wide instead.
01:26However, it was St Mirren who took the lead a few minutes later, thanks to a really composed,
01:30neat, angled finish from 12 yards out by Tiosi Alessandria.
01:35But Dundee's response was immediate, Richard Taylor just couldn't deal with a bouncing
01:39ball, it fell to that man, Curtis Mayne, who levelled from 10 yards with a really delightful
01:44finish.
01:45But the home joy, well, didn't last for long at all, as the Saints were soon back in front.
01:50A terrific strike by Mikael Mandren, who smashed a left-foot half-volley from 25 yards
01:57into the net.
01:58A fantastic first 45 minutes, more of the same in the second half, please, at Denspark,
02:03but it's Dundee 1, St Mirren 2.
02:06Thanks Tyrone, I wish you'd make up his mind, it's either a rip-snort or a humdinger.
02:09It can't be both, but I think we'll agree it's an entertaining game.
02:14Yeah, it's been a brilliant game so far, again, yeah, there's been some great goals in the
02:19game, Mandren's probably the pick of the one to make it 2-1 to St Mirren, his half-volley
02:24from 25 yards, right in the corner, brilliant, brilliant finish, but St Mirren have looked
02:30really good.
02:31They started the game well, put Dundee under a lot of pressure, but yeah, I would imagine
02:34there's going to be more goals in the second half.
02:36Yeah, a couple of defensive errors though, Jules?
02:38Yeah, I think for the goals defensively, the teams will be looking at themselves and thinking
02:43that they could have done better for the first goal, certainly the St Mirren score, Portales,
02:48for me it allows the ball to bounce, as a defender you should never allow the ball to
02:52bounce, you need to go and meet it and clear your lines, and he doesn't do that, it allows
02:56Ole Sanya in, one-on-one on the goalkeeper, and he manages just to put it through the
03:01goalkeeper's legs, and then at the other end, it's Curtis Main who manages to latch onto,
03:06it's a long ball, St Mirren don't deal with it, I think it's Taylor that should do better,
03:11he doesn't, and Curtis Main, it's a brilliant finish as well from Curtis Main to equalise
03:16for Dundee, and then as Cammie said, Mandron's goal to put St Mirren back ahead is a wonderful
03:22strike.
03:23Anything the goalkeeper could have done about that one, Cammie?
03:26Not about Mandron's, no, I think when you look at all the goals in the game, as Julie
03:29mentioned, Curtis Main's one, it was actually an assist for John McCracken, it was straight
03:33from a goal kick, and it went all the way through, albeit Simon Murray played a part
03:36where he bumped the defender, put him off balance, and it eventually went through to
03:40Curtis Main, it was a brilliant finish from Curtis Main, but yeah, I think it's absolutely
03:44worth putting the game on, both teams all fancy us all to try and get a result from
03:48this game, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be an entertaining second half.
03:50That's fifth and sixth from last season?
03:52Yeah, but both teams, really strong seasons last season, both started the season extremely
03:58well, Dundee unbeaten at the moment, St Mirren, they started off with a really strong 3-0
04:04win against Hibs in the opening day of the season, and then they've probably had quite
04:08a tricky time, although they've lost their last two games, they have been to Aberdeen
04:12and Celtic, two teams who we know have been incredible so far, and then they also had
04:18that wee run of European fixtures, so it's not been an easy time for St Mirren, for me
04:22they've shown signs that they'll be able to recover from those games, and certainly to
04:29go in at half time 2-1 up to Dundee's side, who have been very, very good, they'll be
04:34happy with that first half performance.
04:36Just one other game afoot in the Premiership this afternoon, it's St Johnson against Motherwell
04:41at MacDermid Park, we're having one or two technical difficulties, so we might not be
04:46able to speak to some of our reporters this afternoon, Jane Lewis I assure you is there,
04:49we just can't hear from her at the moment, but I'll just tell you the score, as you can
04:53see there, St Johnson 0, Motherwell 1, Dan Casey the defender with a goal in the 11th
04:58minute, a Halliday goal was chalked off from an offside, and there was also a potential
05:03penalty for Motherwell that was checked and cleared by VAR, so Motherwell 1 up in that
05:08game, Cammy I have to come to you first because Motherwell's goal came from a bit of a howling
05:13howler goalkeeper-wise.
05:14Yeah, and again St Johnson have obviously changed their goalkeeper, Craig Levine spoke
05:19about it before the game, he's dropped Joshua Wray and he's brought in Ross Sinclair, Ross
05:22Sinclair's a young goalkeeper who's come through the system at St Johnson, I think he's only
05:26run about 22, so he's not got a great deal of experience either, and there was a warning
05:31sign just before it, Andy Halliday put an in-swinging corner and Ross looked very, very
05:35nervous, tipping it over the bar, gave away another corner, and from that resulting corner
05:39it was a whip ball and I don't think he needs to come for it, I think there's enough bodies
05:42there, he tries to get something on, it doesn't get there and it's flicked into an empty net
05:47and it's one of them ones that I think when he looks back, if he's not going to get there
05:51he doesn't come at all, I think you let your defenders deal with it, it was quite a flat
05:54ball in, and a poor start from St Johnson, and one that's obviously been costly.
06:00My language is probably a bit strong, it was the howlers, just a wee mistake isn't it?
06:04I think as a goalkeeper in Camry he'll know this, you make a mistake and it's classed
06:08as a howler, because it's going to be a goal and he should stay in his line, there's not
06:14an opportunity for him to come because of the amount of players that are in front of
06:18him, and he's never going to get there, so I'm sure he'll learn from it, it's just one
06:23of these things, sometimes very hard to just come into the team, it happened really early
06:28on in the game as well and he probably just hadn't quite found his feet, so we'll give
06:32him a bit of leeway there and he'll be hoping that his teammates can dig him out.
06:36Stuart Kettle will be looking to celebrate his new contract, contract given to him today,
06:42an extension of a rolling contract, I'm not quite sure what that means, does that mean
06:46when we sack you we give you a year's money? I'm not sure, I don't know, but it just shows
06:51you that last year we had that spell, they had 15 games unbeaten, they've stuck with
06:55him, they've started reasonably well this season and he's been rewarded with a new deal.
07:00Yeah and it's great for Stuart, again a bit of stability about Motherwell and they're
07:04obviously behind the scene, they're seeing the good work that he's doing, it's coming
07:08to the front and they're getting results on the pitch which is the most important thing
07:12for the club, but yeah it's good to see that they're rewarding him for a bit of success
07:17because he had that long spell as you just mentioned where everyone was talking about
07:21getting sacked, he picked up from there, they finished the season very strongly and they've
07:26continued it this season so he's been rightfully rewarded with a new contract.

07:35be Capolo in Greenock where Chick Young is watching Morton vs Falkirk, good afternoon

07:42Good afternoon to you David my old friend and I've seldom been more excited at a football
07:46match, this is absolutely brilliant, the half time score is Morton 2 Falkirk 2, here's another
07:53chance, it goes from end to end, we've just started the second half, Morton actually took
07:59a 2 goal lead, wonderful free kick from Ali Crawford at the side of the 18 yard box, Webton
08:04and Morgan boys got the ball over the net to put Morton ahead, same again, another magnificent
08:09free kick from Ali Crawford, this time it was Baird, John Baird who got in on the end
08:13of that to give Morton a 2-0 lead, but Falkirk have made a very stern stuff indeed, they
08:19got themselves back into it with a penalty kick, it was dispatched by Brad Spencer, and
08:24then an equaliser just before half time, what a goal this was, Ethan Ross with a run down
08:30the left hand side, glorious pace, glorious skill, the cutest of passes inside to Tate,
08:36and Dylan Tate just took a little touch and passed it beyond the goalkeeper into the net,
08:40fabulous goal, wonderful goal from a football point of view, and this game has just thrilled,
08:46it's 2-0, 2-0, 2-2 at the moment, it continues to be that way, I doubt if it will finish
08:522-2, it's been great entertainment David, glorious, I thank everyone at the BBC for
08:57sending me to this game this afternoon, 2-2 half time.

09:04Hamilton against Airdrie Gully.
09:06Hi David, yes quite the opposite for myself, I was praying for some quality in the second
09:12half and did we get it, yes we did, Ollie Shaw there is giving Hamilton the lead early
09:17on there, it was a mix up in the Airdrie defence, they couldn't clear the lines, Scott Martin
09:20intercepted a loose ball, he fed the ball into the pass of Ollie Shaw who curled it
09:25into the bottom right hand corner, in the first half though chances were few and far
09:29between, early efforts from Jamie Berjones and Ollie Shaw, he went close, plenty of power
09:36with a shot inside the box, parried over by Murray Johnson, up the other end Adam Frizzell's
09:40cross laid into the pass of Rhys Armstrong, the defender closed in Armstrong looked to
09:44have picked the spot, it was deflected out for a corner, there was a few bookings in
09:48the first half, a 2 for Airdrie in fact, Dylan MacDonald for a challenge on Barry Maguire
09:52and Rhys Armstrong then clattered Scott Martin, the Hamilton bench were up off their seats
09:57but the injection of quality has been answered, Hamilton take the lead, we'll see if there's
10:01any more goals so far here, Hamilton 1, Airdrie now.
10:05Thanks very much Gully, well Chick Young is absolutely revelling in that game, Greenock
10:09just think all the years Chick's been reporting, what is it about, I don't know, 150 or something
10:13like that and he's saying he can't remember enjoying himself so much.
10:17I've heard him say that a few times.
10:20But I tell you what it sounds like an absolute cracking game and Cammie I don't know if you
10:23were maybe writing off the Bairns when they were 2-0 down?
10:26I was a little bit up the stairs when I was listening to Chick come in, Morton were well
10:31on top but listen they've reacted ever so well to get themselves in at half time to
10:36make it 2-2, it sounds like an absolute brilliant game but again two teams that are unbeaten
10:40obviously Falkirk winning a lot of their games but Morton haven't been beat this season either
10:44so they'll be a tough team to beat but they'll probably, Duke Emery will be in there having
10:49to dust these players down because when you're 2-0 up you expect to probably go on and win
10:54that game but this Falkirk team is a real new animal to coming into this championship.
10:58Aye Morton have made a habit of three draws on the spin going into this one, not many
11:02goals.
11:03I don't feel that Falkirk Fielders fans deserve a game like this, I think their first two
11:06games were 0-0, their third game was 1-1 so I mean the Morton fans have probably had to
11:13sit through games that haven't been entertaining and they thoroughly deserve to be at this
11:16one.
11:17I think they'd be surprised to have gone two goals up, not just because it's against Falkirk
11:22but because they've only scored one goal in the league so far this season but I mean all
11:27credit to Falkirk.
11:28I think getting back into the game so quickly after going that second goal down was really
11:33important about being able to then get themselves properly back into the game and hopefully
11:39Chook's going to get an exciting second half as well.
11:42He's cursed it now hasn't he, there's nothing else happening in that game but Gully wasn't
11:45enjoying Hamilton Airdrie as much but there is a goal, it's for the Akies, they're heading
11:50for their second win in a row which is no mean feat for them.
11:54Yeah listen we've all said how difficult this championship is and Hamilton being new to
11:59the championship just getting promoted this season so yeah they'll be delighted with that
12:03scoreline but Airdrie have found it really, really tough this season, they've had a lot
12:07of negative results, a lot of heavy defeats as well but this is one of the games I think
12:12that Rhys McCabe would have been looking at to try and turn the season around but at this
12:15moment in time it's not happening.
12:17So what we are going to talk about, no we're not, I'm just going to continue talking, I
12:20was going to take you to Firnhill there but I'll take you instead on a journey if you
12:26can imagine to East End Park, Dunfermline because Dunfermline, winless so far, pointless
12:32going into this game, they went one up against the United, it's now one each but it was looking
12:36like a really poor start to the season for Dunfermline, if they get anything out of that
12:40then that could change things.
12:41I think that's probably what they'd felt going into it, anything at all is going to be good
12:46enough because they hadn't scored a single goal against that Ayrside who have scored
12:5012 goals in their four games so probably going into this it's not the team that they would
12:56have liked to have been playing but certainly if you could get anything against a really
13:00top Ayrside then it would do the world of good for the players confidence.
13:04Let's head now shall we to Firnhill, for news of that Glasgow Derby in the Championship
13:08Kerry Nidsand, he's watching Partick Thistle against Queen's Park, good afternoon, good
13:14afternoon Davids, Partick Thistle 1, Queen's Park 0 and this one started off at quite a
13:20pace with Partick Thistle taking the lead in around 10 minutes, a really simple goal
13:25as well, Kyle Turner's in swinging corner and Harry Milne's nonchalant header making
13:30it 1-0 to the home side, the fans were happy but not a great deal frankly has happened
13:35since.
13:36Partick Thistle have played the better football, Queen's Park have been disappointing I have
13:40to say, there are signs that they're getting themselves back up for this one and back into
13:44this one but just a few moments ago Partick Thistle nearly made it 2-0, a nice shot from
13:49James Lyon, fist past goalkeeper Jack Wills right hand post, so at the moment it's looking
13:55reasonably comfortable for Partick Thistle, however it is a slender one goal advantage
14:00that they have.

14:04so far, Jules?
14:05Yeah I think their start to the season will be extremely disappointing especially going
14:09into the start of the season they would have high hopes of really pushing the teams at
14:15the top and maybe even getting themselves not only a playoff spot but that automatic
14:19spot to go back up, they're a big club, they've got players who are capable of taking them
14:25back to the Premiership and it hasn't quite worked out at that at the start of the season
14:29but this could be the turning point for them, this could be the three points that they desperately
14:34need to try and make sure that they can hang on to, I mean Falkirk and Ayr have started
14:38so well and they don't want to find themselves too far away from them.
14:42Great news folks and I don't want to jinx it but I think we can now, we have established
14:45contact with Jane in Perth, Jane Lewis, St Johnson vs Motherwell, welcome.
14:50Yes and thank you very much, St Johnson 0, Motherwell 1, Motherwell on top here looking
14:55of course for back to back wins in the league, plenty of talking points in the first half
14:59on this one, there was a lengthy VAR check that resulted in a call of no penalty in the
15:03end, Aaron Essel looked to have made contact with Palm again but I think what they were
15:07checking was whether the incident took place outside the box or inside the box and the
15:12decision after that, as I say a lengthy, lengthy check was that it was outside the
15:15box so no penalty given. Pre-match Craig Levine admitted that he had changed his goalkeeper
15:20because he had made some costly errors, well instruct Ross Sinclair and guess what, he
15:26made a bit of a costly error, he was at fault you could argue for the Motherwell goal, the
15:30opening goal, he tried to punch the ball in from the corner which Dan Casey got ahead
15:35to, got it all wrong and Motherwell were ahead. Motherwell thought they had gone 2-0 up in
15:41this one, it was a brilliant strike from Andy Halliday, brilliant technique, great finish
15:45but it was ruled offside. St Johnson's best chance in the half came when Kempioke raced
15:52through, hit a really decent shot but it was a brilliant save by the Motherwell goalkeeper
15:57Aston Oxenburgh. Their monnets were into the second half, a yellow card has been shown,
16:02I'm not quite sure who to, Motherwell certainly on top, St Johnson have got a little bit of
16:07work to do in this one, they're trailing by a goal to nil.
16:10Back we head to Denspark, there's been a goal in the match between Dundee and St Mirren, Tyrone will fill us in.
16:16Yeah, cracking game this one, another goal and it's another goal for the home side, it's
16:21now 2-2 here at Denspark, who needs Luke McEwan when you've still got Lyle Cameron in your
16:26team. The ball fell to him about 25 yards, he twisted, he turned, he showed great composure,
16:31great vision to slip the ball through to Zayed Larkesh and I'll tell you what a lovely composed
16:36finish by him just to drill the ball low into the net to send the home fans into raptures
16:41here at Denspark where it's now Dundee 2, St Mirren 2.

16:49against Livingston in the Championship, Brian.
16:51In the five sunshine here David, it's still Wraith Rovers nil, Livingston nil, the home
16:56side certainly with the better of the opening exchanges in the first half, Callum Smith
17:00knocked the ball down into the path of new striker Lewis Jamieson who looks set to score
17:06he loved the keeper but the ball ended up over the crossbar, Livingston with a couple
17:10of half chances really in the second period, Stevie May got the better of Ewan Murray,
17:15clipped the ball across the six yard box, Matt Clarke looked set to score but Kevin
17:20Dabrowski pulled off a wonderful save and then Shinnie, Andrew Shinnie it was with a
17:24cross, Teddy Yenge inches away from connecting, Wraith Rovers who have started the second
17:29half on the front foot, Lewis Gibson with a chance, balked by Jerome Pryor in the Livingston
17:34goal and then seconds later Liam Dick with a pile driver from 20 yards again saved by
17:39the Livingston keeper, it looks as if it's only going to be a matter of time before Wraith
17:43make the breakthrough but it's been an even game so far, it's Wraith Rovers nil, Livingston
17:47nil.
17:48Thanks very much Brian, so we had another goal at Dens there, Julie is it just me or
17:51every time a goal goes in do you think right, I'll wait, I'll wait and see if there's a
17:55VAR check, didn't happen, good goal.
17:58No it was, it was a really good goal, it was a really well worked team goal, I think Tiffany
18:04does, battles really hard to win the ball and then it drops to Cameron who's so composed
18:09on the ball and he manages to slip in Lakesh and it was a really composed left footed finish
18:15right into the corner and it just shows you that, I mean although Luke McCown has gone
18:20from their team they've still got plenty of quality in there, they've got a lot of team
18:24spirit, they've gone not only this week but last week as well, we've seen them coming
18:29from behind and what they've got going on there is a massive belief in the players that
18:34they've got in the dressing room.
18:35Luke McCown's gone, Tyrone posed the question who needs Luke McCown, they will miss him
18:39no doubt throughout the course of the season but they've brought in a lot of players, a
18:42lot of players in on loan as well but they seem to have gelled relatively quickly.
18:47Yeah, no they're a good team and we've seen that this season and they'll never give up
18:51as well but again when you've got players like Tiffany and Lyle Cameron in there, they're
18:56quality players, that ball there from Cameron, just the reverse pass into the advancing Dundee
19:02player to get the goal was phenomenal so they've got players that can hurt teams so yes Luke
19:07McCown's going to be a huge miss but I think they've got enough armoury in their tank to
19:13fire on this season.
19:14Now I mentioned a wee while ago it was Dunfermline, Athletic 1, Air United 1, Otto for Dunfermline
19:21and Watrette for Air United so it's won a piece in there, that's an intriguing one because
19:25it's bottom against top, a team that's got off to an absolute flying start in the United
19:30and Dunfermline have just been flat lining until today.
19:33And just shows you what we see every single week about the Championship and it's extremely
19:38unpredictable in Dunfermline, you had a team who hadn't scored a single goal as I said
19:44earlier and to come up against a team who are absolutely flying in Air United, they're
19:48not only scoring goals but their goals are coming from all areas of the pitch, they've
19:52got strikers who are on form and are hitting the back of the net consistently, they've
19:56got wide players who are chipping in and they are a team who are playing at the very top
20:01of their game and to go to Dunfermline and struggle, all credit to Dunfermline because
20:07it's not a nice place to be in when you're still searching for that first league win.
20:12At Starks Park he was telling us it's Wraith Rovers 0-0, Livingston 0-0, Wraith Rovers
20:16still looking for a manager, looked as though they had one, David Healy coming from Northern
20:20Ireland, he's turned it down, it's a kind of strange start for them isn't it?
20:24Strange is a kind word, I think a bit of a shambles at the moment, I feel as if a lot
20:28of Wraith Rovers fans feel that way as well, I think when he and Murray got sacked everyone
20:33kind of thought there was going to be a replacement pretty quickly because it was after one game
20:37of the season, it's not been that way, they've obviously had a number of candidates they've
20:41identified that have turned them down, Healy being the latest one which looked like as
20:45you say it was agreed and then he steps away from it, so it's a strange situation, it's
20:48not ideal either because again the uncertainty for the players in the building isn't great,
20:53I think they want a manager in place to try and kick on this season.
20:56Right folks, three Scottish clubs left in European competition and Celtic, Rangers and
21:01Hearts now know which clubs they'll face in the competitions proper, for Celtic it's Borussia
21:07Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Club Brugge, Young Boys, Dinamo Zagreb, Slovan Bratislava
21:13and Aston Villa in the Champions League, in the Europa League Rangers face Manchester
21:18United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lyon, Nice, Union SG, Stoia Bucharest, Malmo and Olympiacos
21:25and in the Conference League Hearts drew Copenhagen, Cercle Brugge, Dinamo Minsk, FC Heidenheim,
21:31Omonia of Cyprus and Moldovan side Petrocub and it's all changing these competitions because
21:37unknown territory for us, Julie we go into a league phase, I clicked on Celtic in our
21:43topics pages in the website and table and it's like 36 teams in it.
21:48I think it adds a bit of excitement, I think the fact that you're playing lots of games
21:55against other teams does, I'm sure it's going to be a lot trickier for the people behind
22:01the scenes because there's an awful lot of work that's going to need to go in to get
22:05to know everything about the opposition but I mean it's exciting that we've got these
22:10three teams in to see what the journey's going to be in this new format.
22:14And you'll not only be looking at results in that wee small group traditionally, you'll
22:20be looking at all 18 matches.
22:23And I think that's what adds to the excitement I think because you're going to come up against
22:28lots of teams, you're going to come up against lots of different styles of play and it'll
22:34probably be a real learning curve for all three teams.
22:37According to a lot of people, Cammy's Celtic have got quite a benign draw, couldn't have
22:41been easier I've actually heard people say.
22:44But when you actually look into it, you've got Atalanta who won Europa League, you've
22:51got Dortmund who are runners up in the Champions League and there's some other good teams in
22:56there as well.
22:57It is a journey into the unknown.
22:59Yeah it is and listen, there's not a bad team in the Champions League so you need to remember
23:03that, that all these teams are there on merit and so are Celtic as well.
23:07So yes, it might be a kind draw from the teams that you could have got, the absolute giants
23:12of European football but there's still some, as you say, some huge teams in there, very
23:16difficult ties for Celtic but they've got another extra two games from what they're
23:20used to having and it's a different set-up as well so that might just benefit.
23:24We've known for a long time that Celtic have struggled in European Champions League football
23:29to get results so this might change or form up, might just help them.
23:33Home games will be crucial, in fact away games will be crucial and all, let's not kid ourselves
23:37but the home games, Leipzig, Bruges, Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava.
23:44Listen, the way Celtic have started this season, I think they should feel confident, certainly
23:49going into their home games, I think Celtic Park's never an easy place to go to, the atmosphere
23:55that the home fans create for the players on the pitch is really special and I think
24:00when they're looking at the fixtures, they'll be the ones that they'll definitely highlight
24:04that they can go out and really get a performance and a result from and then anything else away
24:10from home will be a bonus.
24:12Bratislava's first up in terms of home games for them, Cammy, that will be vital.
24:16Yeah, vital, get off to a good start, get some real confidence.
24:20Again, it's key, as Julie says, they've started the season so well, Celtic, so they shouldn't
24:24be going into this fearing anybody, they'll be wanting to try and head on, as you say,
24:28get that first win in the bank and then kick on from there.
24:31Many points, I've spoken to this earlier, how many points do you need to get into, well,
24:35the top eight qualify automatically for the next phase and then it goes from 9th to 24th,
24:41they go into a play-off.
24:43So, how many points do you think you need to get into the top eight, Professor?
24:47You tell me!
24:50Aye, probably 9 or 10, yeah, I think that's what you'd be looking at, is to get that.
24:55But again, it's game by game, Celtic need to get off to a good start, I think they've
24:59got a good start with their draw, where they're starting at, but they need to kick on and
25:03they're in such a good place at this moment in time.
25:05So, the same kind of protocols apply for Rangers in the Europa League in terms of qualifying
25:11for the next round.
25:12Do you think they can get 9 or 10 points out of this little lot, Julie?
25:15Spurs, Man United, Lyon, Olympiacos, Union SG, Malmo, FCSB, formerly known as Stoia Bucharest,
25:23and Nice.
25:24Now that looks tough.
25:26I mean, I think, looking at Celtic, where they've probably got the best draw they could,
25:31I think Rangers is on the flip side of that and it looks like it's going to be a really
25:37tricky set of fixtures to try and get points from.
25:42But listen, this is a competition where many of the players are still at, Rangers, who
25:46have had success there.
25:48They have that kind of ethos, that European football, that they've had success in this
25:54competition.
25:55So, I mean, I wouldn't rule them out, but certainly there's many of the fixtures that
25:59will be really difficult to get anything from.
26:01They've come up against a few of these teams before, quite recently as well.
26:05I'm looking there, Lyon, beat them 20-21, lost to Malmo right enough in Champions League
26:11qualifying quite recently as well, but I suppose everyone's looking at the big ones as being
26:16Spurs with Ange Postakoglu coming back to Glasgow and then Rangers going to Old Trafford
26:21to play Ten Hags Man United.
26:23Yeah, and that's the thing when you speak about Malmo.
26:25Malmo are well into their season, I think they're 20-odd games into their Swedish season
26:29and they're top of the table at the moment.
26:31So they've started well, so they're in a good place.
26:34And then, as you say, the ones you talk about is Ange coming back to Ibrox.
26:37Spurs are a real unit of a team in English football.
26:41Yeah, it's going to be difficult, but then, again, you need to go down to Old Trafford
26:45and face Eric Ten Hag's Man United side.
26:48There'll be huge expectations on them two sides, so it's going to be difficult for Rangers.
26:52But they need to find real good form going into these European games.
26:56Domestically, be in real good form and then try and tackle it head on.
26:59Europa League specialists they're not, though?
27:01They are, I mean, they had a wee flavour of the quality of Man United pre-season.
27:05I know pre-season games are not always as competitive as you would like them to be,
27:11but certainly the quality in which they had at Man United on that day
27:15was far superior than what was in the Rangers dressing room.
27:18So Celtic in the Champions League, Rangers in the Europa League,
27:20they've got eight games to come, hearts of two matches fewer.
27:23They've just got six games.
27:25Their opponents, Copenhagen, Heidenheim,
27:29Cercle Brugge, Omonia of Cyprus, Petro Cup of Moldova
27:35and Dynamo Minsk of Belarus.
27:37They'll be far-travelled there, Cammy,
27:40but a couple of familiar teams, certainly to you,
27:44because you've worked on games for us,
27:47Komarnik against Copenhagen and also Cercle Brugge.
27:51Yeah, so it's probably good for Stephen Nessmith
27:53seeing these teams against another Scottish team
27:55and a Scottish style of play.
27:57So I think when he looks at certainly Copenhagen,
28:00I think they'll get stronger as they go on.
28:01They've got a number of players injured at the moment,
28:03so they'll be a real force.
28:04They'll probably be looking to go quite far in the competition.
28:07Cercle Brugge, again, they've been out of European competition for a while,
28:11so I think they're beatable,
28:13but Hearts need to find form first and foremost.
28:15They need to find form domestically
28:17and then try and kick on in European football.
28:20I was going to say, how do these teams in the Hearts Conference League
28:25compare to the kind of quality of Victoria Pilsen,
28:28who I suppose we thought Hearts might prevail in that tie,
28:31over the two legs and didn't lost both games, do you?
28:34I think, I mean, obviously there's a lot of kind of unknown teams,
28:38or not a lot, but there are a few that Hearts won't know an awful lot about.
28:42On the flip side, they know a few,
28:44but the couple of teams who have played against Komarnik,
28:47so it'll be a bit of a mix.
28:49I mean, there'll be teams where they'll really have to do their homework
28:53to find out a bit about.
28:55I think the Hearts side, the squad in which they've built,
28:59are good enough for this level of European football.
29:02I don't think they're playing very well at the moment,
29:05but they certainly have quality players within their dressing room,
29:08and it's just about trying to tweak things and find the best team.
29:11I think they've kind of chopped and changed
29:14in terms of the players that have played on the pitch and the formation,
29:18and I think you need to find a balance between,
29:21yes, players need rested when you're playing midweek games,
29:24but you also need to try and allow the players,
29:27especially early on in a season, to form relationships
29:30and find an XI who is going to work for you on the pitch,
29:33and I think that'll be important in the European games.
29:36Plenty for us to look forward to in terms of European football,
29:39then, for the three Scottish clubs remaining in the tournament.
29:42Something for you to look forward to right now, though, is Jane Lewis.

29:48Yes, St Johnstone are back in this game, and I tell you what,
29:51it's been all Motherwell up until now, St Johnstone have had a couple of chances,
29:54but yeah, they're now back in it, it's one each.
29:57It was brilliant play from Mackenzie Kirk, he's just come on the park,
30:00Craig Levine ringing the changes, he's decided to look to get back into the game,
30:03and I tell you what, it has worked wonders.
30:06He did ever so well as he burst forward,
30:09did really well to pick out Benji Kempioka,
30:12and he shot on the angle, St Johnstone back in this game at one each.

30:22Craig Levine said pre-match, you know,
30:25we're two teams on the same level, and he was expecting it to be tight,
30:28and so it seems to have proven.
30:31Yeah, and I think previously, certainly last week,
30:34against Indy United for St Johnstone,
30:37there was fine margins in the game, they had opportunities,
30:40and they didn't take them at crucial points,
30:42and they found themselves a goal and then two behind,
30:45so in this game, they have had a couple of opportunities already,
30:48they've managed to keep it at 1-0,
30:51and then when they get this chance, it's a great finish right into the corner,
30:55the goalkeeper gets a bit on it, but there's too much power in the strike.
30:58I saw you raising an eyebrow when we were watching it, Cammy,
31:00do you think the goalkeeper made it?
31:02Yeah, no, I think from a goalkeeper's point of view,
31:04I think you would be disappointed.
31:05I wouldn't put the blame on just on the goalkeeper,
31:07but I think when he looks back himself,
31:08he'll look and think he could have potentially done better,
31:10but again, it's all about Kirk in midfield,
31:12when he picks up the ball, he beats the Motherwell midfielder
31:15with a little jink and then just slides in Kimpioka,
31:17and as Julie says, he catches it really well,
31:19but I still think when you look at that,
31:21the Motherwell goalkeeper will be a little bit disappointed.
31:23So both games tied at the moment in the Premiership,
31:25still Dundee 2, St Mirren 2, St Johnstone 1, Motherwell 1,
31:30have you managed to have a wee glance at St Mirren?
31:32Certainly, for me, Dundee look like they're on top,
31:35Simon Murray had a really good opportunity,
31:38it was a breakaway, there was maybe 3 v 1 in Dundee's favour,
31:43and the ball drops for Simon Murray,
31:45and when he's in that position at 1 v 1 with the goalkeeper,
31:48more often than not he manages to slot it away,
31:51but it turned out to be a really good save from the goalkeeper,
31:54and certainly it's Dundee that's putting more pressure on St Mirren
31:57than the other way about.
31:58You've been impressed with Ellery Balcombe for St Mirren,
32:00not just today, but in the season as a whole?
32:03I have, yes, I think he's fitted in seamlessly to their squad and their team,
32:09so he's been impressive so far,
32:11and I'll be looking to build on his performances this season.
32:15Now as has become the custom this season,
32:17there's plenty of action in the Premiership tomorrow,
32:19hearts are home to Dundee, United and Comarnac are home to Hibs,
32:22but top billing goes to the first meeting of Celtic and Rangers of the season,
32:26highlights in the sports scene and coverage on Sports Sound,
32:28starting with live commentary of the Old Firm from midday,
32:32it's at Celtic Park and the home side are favourites, Cammy,
32:35and not just because it's on their home turf?
32:38No, listen, they've had a brilliant start to the season,
32:41they look as if they are a team that have been together for a period of time,
32:45which they have, and they've really kicked on,
32:48I covered them in the first game of the season against Comarnac at Celtic Park,
32:52and they were very impressive, very impressive,
32:54and they've kicked on since then as well,
32:56so yeah, they are favourites,
32:58but we all know that anything can happen in an Old Firm game,
33:01it could be a decision, a mistake,
33:04there's so many elements that can happen that can change this game,
33:07because I don't think there's a huge amount in the teams when they play each other,
33:11I think that passion, that rivalry, the intensity of the game,
33:16all brings it closer than what I would say the two squads are
33:19when you look at them on paper.
33:21Brendan Rodgers, I'm paraphrasing him here,
33:24but listen, don't write off this Rangers team.
33:27No, I think that'll be the message that he'll be putting to his players,
33:31because although they have had a brilliant season so far,
33:35and what they've done really well, started games exceptional,
33:39in terms of getting early goals, making it a really settled game,
33:44there hasn't been those moments where you've felt that they're going to concede
33:48or they're going to drop points,
33:50but I think, as Cammy said, it's an Old Firm game,
33:53there's a lot of passion rides on it,
33:56there can quite often be mistakes in these types of games,
33:59just with the pressure, and we have seen a few decisions
34:02that have changed the making of the game.
34:06So, I mean, the first one of the season,
34:08everybody's eyes are going to be on it,
34:10to see Celtic go in as favourites,
34:13but Rangers' performance last week
34:15probably gives the Rangers fans a little more hope.
34:19Rangers scored six against Ross County,
34:21Celtic have been rattling in the goals, beats them in 3-0,
34:23I was there and it was almost a flawless performance from Celtic.
34:28Yeah, no, they've been relentless, as I said before,
34:31and really impressive, so they'll be full of confidence,
34:34but again, Rangers getting that big win,
34:36and they probably needed that big win last week,
34:38I think there was a lot of negativity throughout pre-season,
34:41they've kind of washed that away a little bit
34:43with the victory over Ross County last weekend,
34:46so the two teams will go in fancying it.
34:48Rangers need to get a result from this, it will be difficult,
34:52but I think if they play at their top level,
34:54they can do it, they definitely can.
34:56That wasn't quite a frenzy of deadline day transfer activity,
34:59both teams were busy, Celtic bringing in, I think,
35:02four over the last couple of days,
35:04and Rangers bringing in a couple yesterday,
35:06I'm not expecting to see any of them tomorrow.
35:09No, I don't think they will, I think they'll need time to settle in,
35:13I think it will give both sets of coaching staff
35:16the opportunity to see these players in that environment,
35:20it's not really the type of game where you want to bring someone in
35:23who hasn't been in the country for long
35:25and maybe doesn't know a great deal about that fixture,
35:28so there's certainly enough players in both squads
35:31to put a team, field a team and make it a competitive game.

36:47how thrilling will it be tomorrow
36:49when Hibs visit Rugby Park,
36:51because Hibs' start to the season has been pretty poor, hasn't it?
36:55Yeah, it has, it's been really poor,
36:57and again, when you look at the point they've picked up,
37:01it was a point that probably should have been three points
37:03at home to Dundee,
37:05so it's been a difficult start
37:07for David Gray in his new campaign as a manager at the club,
37:11he's made a number of signings,
37:13obviously, since he's come in,
37:15to try and put his own stamp on it,
37:17but I still feel like, look at this goal here,
37:19it's far too easy for Simon Murray to go in and score a goal,
37:22I still feel defensively Hibs are short,
37:25and they're too soft.
37:27They've got a couple in, a couple of defensive players in.
37:29Again, that's probably what he's looking at,
37:31but he needs to make them more,
37:33as I say, use the word soft,
37:35I think they are soft, they concede far too many goals,
37:37easy goals that are avoidable,
37:39so they need to be much more robust in their play,
37:42and allow their forward player to go and win the game for them.
37:45So there's two teams, listen, Hibs second bottom,
37:47Kamanak bottom at the moment,
37:49so two teams that are desperate on a win,
37:51and I think both teams will go for a win tomorrow as well.
37:53Kamanak, Julie, Lieutenant McInnes has made no secret of it,
37:56that their focus has been on Europe thus far,
38:00now it's back to the Premiership,
38:02and they are playing catch-up.
38:04It's quite a risky thing to do,
38:06because they don't want to find themselves too far behind.
38:09It can be really difficult to try and claw that back,
38:13and the fact that they haven't scored a goal in league football
38:16is concerning for them.
38:18They haven't probably put out any points so far
38:21in their league campaign, their strongest 11,
38:24and that has been down to the fact that
38:26they've wanted to be successful in Europe.
38:29They now have the opportunity to focus in league football,
38:33and that will put a lot of pressure on this game.
38:37They must start to pick up points,
38:39because as Cammie said, sitting bottom of the league
38:42for a team who excelled last year is not going to be good enough.

40:35they've got the consolation of the Conference League in midweek,
40:38but they haven't managed a win so far in the Premiership.
40:41No, and we talked about the poor start that Hibs have had as well,
40:45and it's exactly the same for Hearts.
40:47I don't think anybody would have predicted
40:49that both these Edinburgh clubs would be sitting
40:52as close to the bottom of the table in which they are.
40:55They've had three games played, they've only got one point,
40:58and of course they do have that European football hanging over them,
41:02and it can be difficult to play those midweek games as well,
41:05but for a club like Hearts, it's definitely not good enough.
41:09Their performances haven't been good enough,
41:11their results haven't.
41:12They're at home tomorrow against a Dundee United side
41:15who are still unbeaten,
41:17and it is a really big game for them
41:20because we know the Hearts fans can be impatient at times,
41:24but certainly going into the fourth game of the season,
41:27they'd be expecting to get a win.
41:29A good start to the season for Dundee United,
41:31one of your former employees, Cammy.
41:33Have they got one win, a couple of draws?
41:35Maybe they should have had another win, the one against Ross County.
41:38They should probably have won that match,
41:40and maybe an even better position,
41:41but it's a good return to the Premiership for Jim Goodwin and his team.

41:50It will be a difficult game,
41:52but when he looks at the way his team started,
41:55their scoring goals,
41:57they've got confidence now as well coming into this league.
42:00So, yeah, I think they're in a good place at the moment in time,
42:03and Hearts aren't in a good place,
42:05so Jim Goodwin using all his experience,
42:07I think it will keep that Tyne Castle crowd quiet
42:11and get them frustrated and build that on Hearts
42:14and then try and take advantage of that tomorrow.
42:16Hearts are also out of the League Cup,
42:18beaten by Falkirk,
42:19but maybe that's no shame.

42:24I think you're always under pressure when you're at Hearts.
42:27I think they're the type of club where the fans have huge expectations

42:43then the pressure is on.

42:48that he's more than capable of doing the job there at Hearts.
42:52Yes, it's been a tricky spell just now,
42:54but we spoke earlier about the faith in which Motherwell had shown,
42:58and Stuart Kettlewell, I think Hearts need to be patient as well,
43:01and Stephen Naismith certainly already proved
43:05that he's good enough for that job.
43:07He's kind of chopped and changed a wee bit, hasn't he?
43:09Personnel tactics so far, are they just finding their way this season?
43:13I don't think he knows he's best 11,
43:15he's best formation even, to be honest, David.
43:17He's brought in a lot of players, and good players,
43:19I think that will be really good,
43:20and it's maybe going to take these guys time to adjust.
43:22Danda, Spittle, they've been at teams
43:25that aren't expected to win every single week,
43:27so this is a different pressure for them guys coming to this club.
43:30So it's maybe going to take them a little bit of time to adjust,
43:32but they need to get results soon.
43:34He'll be desperate for a result tomorrow before the international break.
43:37They've held on to Shankland in the transfer window,
43:39so that's good news.
43:40The bad news is he's been injured.

45:07Two teams get into this with two wins from two,
45:10let's get the details from Alistair Bruce-Ball.
45:13A thrilling end-to-end second half,
45:15eventually saw the spoils shared here,
45:17all brought about by Declan Rice's red card in the 49th minute,
45:20a second yellow for kicking the ball away ever so slightly
45:23to prevent Brighton taking a quick free kick.
45:25At that point, Arsenal led 1-0 through Kai Havertz's goal,
45:29but the visitors then needed no further encouragement,
45:31they quickly got themselves level.
45:33João Pedro followed up on a rebound after David Raya,
45:36saved from Yacouba Minte, and then it was anyone's game,
45:39Verbruggen saving superbly to deny Kai Havertz in a one-on-one,
45:43Raya using his legs to block a shot from Yassine Ayari,
45:46and Jorginho Ruta came off the bench and could have won it for Brighton,
45:50he sliced wide and then misdirected a clear-headed chance in added time.
45:54So try as they might, no-one could find the winner,
45:57we'll wait to hear what Mikel Arteta makes of the Rice red card,
46:00but both clubs have now dropped their first Premier League points of the season.

48:43Yeah, I mean their start has been everything that the Aberdeen fans
48:47would have been wanting and probably a bit more as well.
48:50Three wins from their first three league games,
48:53I think it took them ten games last season to get three wins,
48:56so it just shows you the strides that they've made this season.
48:59Yeah, I mean it's been all happy up there in Aberdeen so far this season.
49:05Mind you, Cammie, the start to the season has been quite benign for them, hasn't it?
49:10That's what I was going to say, you look at their fixtures,
49:12if you could have picked fixtures, they're probably the ones you would pick.
49:15Yes, they've played St Marin, they've played Kermarnock,
49:17who were high-flying last season, but this was in between their European exertion,
49:21so it was the right time to play these teams.
49:24I don't think they've had a huge challenge, but take nothing away from Aberdeen,
49:26they've had to beat the teams that are in front of them,
49:28they've done that, they've got real confidence, momentum,
49:31so they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.
49:33But again, this will be a difficult tie for them,
49:35going to Dingwall, Grosse County need a reaction,
49:38they've had two really poor results, obviously that heavy defeat to Rangers,
49:42and then the Spartans defeat as well in the League Cup was really damaging,
49:46so they need a reaction as well.
49:48How do you think the new striker Kevin Nisbet is going to fare,
49:52following in the footsteps of almost a Dons legend in Majovski?
49:57Yes, I think we all know the quality player that he was for Aberdeen,
50:02and certainly Kevin Nisbet, they know they've got a player who has been successful
50:07in the Scottish League already in the top flight,
50:10so they'll be hoping that he can just come back in where he left off,
50:15and the best thing to do as a striker is to score in your debut,
50:20and they'll be hoping that he can do just that.
50:23County had a steady enough start to the season, Cammy, didn't they,
50:26and then they were knocked out of the League Cup by the Spartans,
50:29a League 2 side, and then a heavy defeat by Rangers at Hampden last week.
50:33Yes, I think that Spartans, when you reflect on that,
50:36that was a really damaging one, again,
50:38it's one that I'm pretty sure Don Cowie would have expected his team to progress from.
50:43They didn't, they had a real disappointment,
50:45and then they've just backed that up with a huge defeat against Rangers,
50:48and I think it was a manner of defeat as well,
50:50I think Don spoke about it after it, once you go 2-3-0 down,
50:53there's a pride that sets in and you make sure you don't concede anymore.
50:56Ross County didn't do that, they fell apart,
50:59so he's going to look for a reaction tonight.
51:01It wasn't a great season for Aberdeen last term,
51:03but they did beat Ross County four times in five meetings.
51:07Yes, and I think the fact that they do have that,
51:11they'll be saying that in the dressing room,
51:13that we know what to expect from Ross County,
51:16we know what you're up against,
51:18I think the fact that they are coming off the back of such a heavy defeat
51:21is something that Aberdeen can really play on,
51:25because when you've lost six goals,
51:27it's really difficult then to pick yourself back up,
51:30and an extremely difficult fixture to do that as well.
51:33Ross County now have three home games in a row,
51:37an opportunity for them now to bring teams to Dingwall
51:40and make it difficult for them,
51:42and they'll be hoping that that starts at 5.45pm today.
