Transcript
00:00His position, his season, his playoffs on the line.
00:03First of all, what do you think about his move on the 22 and then him hitting you as
00:07well?
00:08Fair or foul, Denny?
00:09It's obviously foul, but it's fair in NASCAR.
00:13We're just a different league, right?
00:17There is no penalties for rough driving or anything like that.
00:21It opens up the opportunity for Austin to be able to just do whatever he wants.
00:26The problem I had is I got hooked in the right rear again.
00:29I'm just minding my own business and he turned left and hooked me in the right rear and blew
00:35my damn shoulder out.
00:36I don't know.
00:37The record book won't care about what happened.
00:38He's going to be credited with a win, but obviously, he's just not going to go far because
00:52you've got to pay your dues back on stuff like that.
00:57It's worth it because they jump 20 positions and points.
01:01I understand all that.
01:03There's no ill will there.
01:04I get it.
01:05I just hate I was part of it.
01:07It would have been fun if I was not one of the two guys that got taken out in the last
01:11corner, but I understand it.
01:14Doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
01:16We'll talk about it tomorrow.
01:17For a brief moment, the seas parted for you.
01:19I'm sure you thought, hey, this is our shot at the win.
01:21We're hearing that you now are going to be scored in second place.
01:25Tell me, as someone who's a spokesman for the sport, do you feel like a line was crossed
01:29tonight and maybe that's too far?
01:32Oh, I mean, absolutely, a line was crossed.
01:35I mean, but it's an invisible line, and, you know, it's not defined.
01:44I mean, they have rules and provisions for stuff like this, but they never take action
01:49for it, and what happens is you see young guys coming up in the short track ranks seeing
01:54that and they think it's fine, and that's why we see some of the lower series turn out
01:59the way they do in these green, white, checkered situations because some of the best that they're
02:04seeing on Sunday do stuff like that, but it's, you know, who am I to throw stones in Goliath's
02:13house, but, man, I certainly never won one that way.
02:17Hope the shoulder heals up this week.
02:18We'll see you in Michigan.
02:19All right.
02:20Thanks.
02:21Denny Hamlin winds up in second place, but, Rick, some very honest and candid comments
