00:00Hey everybody, it's Mr. DeMaio and-
00:02Wait!
00:03You're not planning on doing the whole video like that, are you?
00:06Yeah, why?
00:08Do you own a mirror?
00:10Yes.
00:11Are you legally blind?
00:13No, man, come on, what's wrong?
00:16Absolutely nothing.
00:18Anyway, today we're going to learn about tsunamis!
00:25Where are we?
00:27Tsunamis are more likely to occur in certain places than they are in other places.
00:32Here, look at this map.
00:34This map shows where tsunamis are more likely to occur.
00:38The red area shows where there is a greater risk of tsunamis,
00:42and the gray area shows where there is a smaller risk.
00:46And the most tsunamis occur in a specific part of the Pacific Ocean called the Ring of Fire.
00:53There are a ton of earthquakes.
00:55Click the link up above.
00:57Volcanoes.
00:59Click the link up above.
01:01That occur there.
01:02This place is really dangerous.
01:04I don't care how dangerous it is.
01:06I ain't wearing no Hello Kitty float.
01:09I'm glad you realize how dangerous tsunamis really are.
01:12Tsunamis cause roughly $350 million in damages each year.
01:17Here, look at this picture.
01:19This picture shows a town before a tsunami hit.
01:23And this picture shows what happened after.
01:26And before.
01:28After.
01:29Before.
01:30After.
01:32Before.
01:33After.
01:35Before.
01:36Well, I'm just glad we haven't run into...
01:39Uh-oh.
01:40Wave at 3 o'clock.
01:41Why would I wave at 3 o'clock?
01:42Now!
01:43Wave over there!
01:44Why would I wave...
01:45Oh!
01:47Quick, pause it!
01:49Hey, hey, hey.
01:52Take it easy, man.
01:53Over here, man.
01:54Big, giant wave.
01:56Waving at you.
01:57I can't actually wave, but...
01:59You know, because I'm made of water and all that.
02:01But one day, I wish I can.
02:03That's one of my goals one day.
02:04That and to get a college degree in plumbing.
02:09Is that a thing?
02:10I don't know.
02:11Wait, I thought you were a tsunami.
02:13Eh, big wave, tsunami.
02:14You can call me whatever you like, you know.
02:16Us tsunamis aren't too big on names.
02:18Well, except for my cousin Peter.
02:20He spells his name with a Y, which I always thought was kind of weird.
02:23But all that matters is that you know what a tsunami is.
02:26And it's a long, high sea wave caused by a variety of things.
02:31Like an earthquake or something.
02:33Whoa.
02:34Are earthquakes the only thing that cause tsunamis?
02:37Nah, man.
02:38Lots of things do.
02:39Like volcanic eruptions.
02:41Landslides.
02:43Meteorite crashes.
02:45And like I said, earthquakes.
02:47But hopefully you remember because I said that like 13 seconds ago or something.
02:52Whoa.
02:53So many things cause tsunamis.
02:55But are they all as high as you?
02:57Oh, I don't know, man.
02:58I'm just a big, giant wave.
03:00I'm not even sure if I have a brain in my head.
03:02Or if I even have a head.
03:04Probably just a bunch of dead fish inside of me.
03:07Oh, maybe you should ask the dead fish.
03:09Hey, dead fish inside the tsunami.
03:12Are all tsunamis as big as this guy?
03:17Yeah, I just remembered all the fish are dead.
03:19Maybe we can hang out and go find some living fish together, you know?
03:23No, stop.
03:24We're not hanging out and finding dead fish together.
03:26Hey, hey.
03:27Take it easy, man.
03:28I don't mean to make a big splash.
03:35Oh, that's just a little wave joke for you.
03:37You know, like a big splash.
03:38A big splash?
03:39Like a big, big splash in the water?
03:42We get it.
03:43But to answer your question from before, I'm a pretty big wave.
03:46But most tsunamis cause the sea to raise about 10 feet.
03:50But really big tsunamis cause waves to raise up to 100 feet.
03:54And in really deep water, tsunamis barely cause waves bigger than 3 feet.
03:59They're so small, people barely notice them.
04:02Wow.
04:03How fast can a tsunami travel?
04:04Well, tsunamis can travel at speeds up to 500 miles per hour.
04:08If I ever travel, I want to go to that one island, you know, where all the cats live.
04:12It's like a big cat island.
04:14Imagine all these different cats just dressed up in different outfits.
04:18Like a cat cup.
04:20Maybe like a cat firefighter with a little cat axe.
04:24If you zoom in on the axe, it says, meow.
04:32Cat island's actually a real thing.
04:34You can Google it if you don't believe me.
04:36I'd Google it, but I got water hands. I would destroy your phone.
04:40Oh, that stinks.
04:41Yeah, you're telling me.
04:43I haven't checked my Facebook or Instagram in like nine years.
04:46I can't even use my electric toothbrush.
04:48And I don't even have any teeth.
04:50When you get on, you should add us.
04:52Okay, what's your username?
04:53At Mr. Dot De Mayo.
04:55Yeah, just remember that I can't write things down.
04:58If I do, the paper gets wet.
04:59Oh, maybe we can ask one of these dead fish.
05:02No, no more dead fish stuff.
05:03Fine, take it easy, man.
05:05Hey, what's your username?
05:07It's DeadFish45.
05:10Yeah, I tried to get just dead fish without the numbers,
05:12but my cousin Peter with a Y took it.
05:15I'm sick of this guy. Can we just go home now?
05:17I wouldn't do that if I were you.
05:19Tsunamis can reach really far inland.
05:21How far?
05:22It's been said that some tsunamis can reach up to 630 miles inland.
05:27I'd write this information down for you, but...
05:29Let me guess, have no hands again?
05:31Well, maybe there are dead fish...
05:32Stop! No more dead fish stuff, please.
05:35Yeah, I'm kind of over the whole dead fish joke anyway.
05:38Anytime I think of the dead fish, I start to cry.
05:41It's just like more water pouring on top of more water. It's weird.
05:44Alright, I'm ready to end this video.
05:46Wait, we heard about what causes a tsunami,
05:49but how about how a tsunami actually occurs?
05:52Oh, I can answer that. Here, check this out.
05:56Well, like I said before, tsunamis are caused by lots of stuff,
06:00but the thing that causes the most of them is earthquakes,
06:03so let's focus on that.
06:05So first, an earthquake happens underwater,
06:08and when the tectonic plates shift against each other,
06:11a ton of energy is created.
06:14This sends a bunch of energy towards the surface of the water.
06:18This causes the water to move and the sea level to rise.
06:22When this happens, gravity is pulling it back down,
06:26and this makes the water spread horizontally.
06:29This gives birth to a tsunami.
06:31What's weird is I said give birth to a tsunami,
06:34but that sounds like I had a little baby tsunami boy,
06:37and that didn't happen, so I didn't want to, like, mislead you.
06:40Hey, hey, where'd you go?
06:44Ugh, I'm so glad to be done with that guy.
06:46I mean, he was just so annoying.
06:48Stop. Wave.
06:51No, wave.
06:53Why would I wave? Ugh.
06:55Oh, hey, man. Want to find some dead fish?
06:58Uh-oh.
07:07...a popular diet and medication in Gokarna,
07:10we recently stopped taking this drug.
07:12Ah!
07:13Today we're going to learn about tsunamis.
07:16Ooh!
07:19Ow, my butt!
07:21I got shot!
07:24I got shot!
07:25Oh, no!
07:26Yam sandwiches.
07:27Yam soup.
