00:00He's also going to get hurt because he plays for the Ravens. That's what happens to running backs.
00:02No, don't do that.
00:03I'm sorry, that's just what's going to happen.
00:05Stop it. But here's the thing. I'm in a
00:08friends, the homie league, which I've been in for 20 some odd years, and then I'm in a family league.
00:13That's it. Friends, family. I don't do work anymore. I don't do this guys, that guys.
00:17No, just friends, family. It's made viewing more fun. I could streamline my teams. It's totally
00:24good. And now my strategy as I've gotten older and older and older is I try to get them as close
00:28as possible. Even if I have to reach a little, not the end of the world, because you know why
00:32I'm in it for the fun. I'm not in it to pretend like I'm making money. All right. I am not some,
00:37you know, Jim Cramer, bye, bye, bye. Sell, sell, sell. Got to have 18 teams and I'm constantly
00:43rooting for and against 16 dudes. Enough, enough, enough. I've heard this before.
00:47You know where I stand on this. Jake Hutchinson, 95, 70 game insider.
00:50Sorry, Jake. Welcome to the morning roast. Jake Hutchinson
00:54who joins us on the river Islands. Guess I just don't want people under the bus. You've had,
00:58you've had a role this week. How many leagues are you in Jake? Jake? Yeah. How many leagues are you
01:02in? Yeah. I'm, I'm in two contemplating joining three. And the thought of even joining three is
01:08making me a little sick. It's just too much, man. Thank you. It is too much. Let me see. I'm in.
01:14He's a reasonable. I mean, one, my play SF players club, shout out to the SF players club. You know
01:18who you are. It's in the heart of San Francisco. That league's been going on since the mid nineties,
01:27since the mid nineties. I joined the league at oh one. So we didn't have the internet,
01:32but they did pen and paper. So they did that one. I got that league. I got my buddies in LA. I only
01:39know one person in there, but I've been in that league for 12 years somehow. And I've won that
01:43league three times. So I'm still in that league. What other league is, uh, and I think that's it.
01:49I think that's it. Anyway, Jake, let's talk some 49. Forget fantasy. No one cares about
01:53Bonte's leagues. And why is you just spit ball for five minutes about your fantasy football process?
01:58Anyway, Jake, you see what goes on in the show. You see what happens. I didn't get sleep last
02:02night, Jake. My wife brought the baby. I don't get sleep every day. This guy's making excuses.
02:06He can't fight through adversity. How will the nighters fight through adversity? If Brendan,
02:11I asked my first question to you is, is Brendan, are you traveling with the team?
02:15I would be shocked. He's going to Tennessee. Uh, I don't see the logic in him doing that,
02:22you know, unless they want to make everything uncomfortable or unless he's like, I want to
02:25make everybody uncomfortable and take his own flight down there. Uh, I would be, I'd be pretty
02:30shocked, uh, about that. But yeah, the whole thing is the vibes are weird on this one.
02:35What about Trent Williams? Any concern about him not being in camp yet from the coaching staff,
02:39from other players, or are they not worried about big trip because he's a veteran?
02:44Yeah, I think it's something where like, if anybody's going to miss time in camp,
02:48like you're not that worried about Trent Williams, but the guy is 36 and Chris Furser,
02:53you know, offensive line coach, uh, you know, run game coordinator, he talks to us every week and
02:58he's like, you know, he does need to practice, you know, like even if you're Trent Williams,
03:03you got to get the rust off. So, I mean, if he's not there at all in training camp, I would,
03:08I'd be like a little bit concerned. He had a pretty bad Superbowl. I think he's a guy who
03:13doesn't need to practice very much, but it's definitely a little bit of a concern if he's
03:17not there, you know, say the week before the season starts another Nick Bosa situation.
03:23But again, it's Trent Williams. So like he is there the day before the season starts,
03:29you could probably still slot him in and he'll probably be fine.
03:32You've been to a variety of these training camps, correct?
03:35Yep. I've been last, last five years.
03:37Okay. I went day one and again, there's no fans and it just, it was, it was different.
03:43There were no pads. I said to be, I go, man, it just doesn't have the same juices as had in years
03:47past. Do you feel me on that? Or just something feel like it's lacking when you're there every
03:52day? Yeah, no, I mean, the vibes are off a little bit. Like, let's be real. Um,
03:58like for example, yesterday or two days ago, that's their big practice the week.
04:03Fred Warner's out with, you know, a little bit of foot irritation. So there's like nobody to
04:08set the tone. You've got no, I, you, you've got no Trent Williams. You've got no Christian
04:11McCaffrey, no Elijah Mitchell. You know, you've got receivers who are out. There's no pierce all
04:16this. Like you've got no one who's really out there setting the tone. And as much as you can
04:21be like, Oh, well, Brock Birdie's out there and training camp doesn't matter. Like they haven't
04:26had, like, I know this is wild, but like, they haven't had like a real fight of camp,
04:30which I'm just saying, they asked Fred Warner a couple of days ago, like, have you picked
04:36anybody to pick on? And Warner was like, Nope, not really without out there. I haven't really
04:41been bothering anybody. And that like tells you all you need to know. There's not a lot of juice
04:46to this camp. Um, it's, it's been okay. It's, but it's been a little boring. It's, it's a little
04:52weird. And you can definitely feel that they've got star players who are missing out there.
04:56Well, Jake Hutchinson, our 95, 70 game insider here on the river islands,
05:00guest line, all guests on 95, 70 game appear on a river islands. Guest line. Is it a time for you
05:05to discover the islands river islands in Lathrop? I discovered the islands the other day. And let me
05:09tell you, islands are nice. Islands are really nice. Not to mention Jake, uh, Drake Greenlaw,
05:14not being out there. Drake Greenlaw is a tone setter as well, who runs around and practices
05:18like the hits people, but his replacement, it sounds like D winners is now ascending in training
05:23camp. Can you talk a little about D winners and what he's done so far?
05:28Yeah, no question. I would say the two guys who actually are trying to give it some juice
05:33are D winners and Jalen Graham. He winners has been absolutely everywhere. Like he's a guy,
05:39I think he's going to be their third linebacker, uh, Devon, Drake, Campbell start. And then
05:43Campbell's, you know, looking old and, and he's just doesn't have the juice left. I could see
05:48winners slotting into that spot because he's flying all over the place, making backfield
05:53stops left and right. And then the other guy, Jalen Graham, he's built like a Mack truck.
05:58Like he just, he, he's going to hit somebody very, very hard in the preseason. Uh, and he's
06:04the one guy who's been almost on the, on the verge of starting fights, got into it with,
06:08uh, Juwan Jennings. I think it was yesterday. He's physical, he's mean, he's got like an edge
06:14to him and wants to prove something. So those two guys, they're, they're trying to bring a little
06:17bit of juice. Uh, and, and I would keep an eye on them in this preseason game.
06:21What's the thinnest and deepest position for, or the strongest position, I guess,
06:26for the 49ers in terms of groups. Yeah. I think what's wild is corner corners,
06:32their strongest position right now, which is like, I don't think even, I think that would
06:37have been a joke to say that any of like the past four or five years, but you look at it
06:41and you've got ward, you've got Lenore, Isaac. Adam looks like he's going to start on the outside.
06:46If he's healthy, Renardo green, they've been playing him at nickel just to train him there.
06:51But with the Adam out, uh, he's been killing it the last few days, a bunch of PDUs,
06:55block a kick. Um, and then you've got a bunch of other guys like Rocky sin,
07:00they're a looter, Sam Womack. And you're talking, those are like your fourth, fifth,
07:05or your fifth or sixth corners. Like it's a really impressive group. Uh, the weakest one to me. Um,
07:12I mean, D line is defensive end. They, they literally have, you know, if we're talking depth,
07:18they have four guys, they have Bosa, they have Robert Beale. Uh, they have Leonard Floyd and
07:23eat your gross Montez and then like, I guess, Austin Bryant. But after that, they, they don't
07:28have any defensive ends. And I, and I think they just signed somebody, but that group is a little
07:33concerning. Um, Floyd's older, he's not been like stellar. Um, and these other guys aren't like
07:40starring. I like gross Montez, but outside of Bosa, who's, you know, had like four sacks and
07:46camp the other day, that group is, if one guy goes down, I'd be worried about that.
07:51You know, Jake, I'm, you bring up Bosa having a four sacks and I think he is in life for a monster
07:55season. He knows what happened last year, holding out the training camp and having a subpar season
07:59and being on the sideline in the super bowl during various plays on a final drive. But
08:04you bitch, if most have it, those four sacks and all, all that automatically think about Trent
08:08in his offensive line and left tackle and right tackle. Are they ready? Are they prepared for
08:14life without Trent Williams? If he decides not to come for week one, he gets a New York Jets or
08:18holds out and doesn't get his new money. Jaylon Moore, where is he at right now?
08:24No, they're not prepared.
08:29Where's Jay, where's Jaylen Moore at? Has he gotten better? Cause we know he's a human turn
08:33He's, he's fine for, for a backup tackle. You know, he's okay. But if you have him out there
08:43and maybe it's something where he does get out there and he improves over the course of the
08:46season, but I've seen nothing to be like, Ooh, maybe this guy could no, no. I mean,
08:51they can talk him up all they want. I think he's, he's done a decent job. There's been
08:56times where I've been impressed. Um, I think if he's out there for a few games this season,
09:01you can maybe win with that, but you don't have Trent Williams. This is not like this is,
09:08was a middle lower middle of the pack offensive line. And that's with Trent Williams. Who's the
09:13best offensive lineman in the game. If you don't have him, like you're objectively like a bottom
09:1910 at best offensive line, like it's going to be a major problem. And that's the whole thing with
09:25this off season. It felt like, okay, invest in Brock Purdy invest in, in weapons and building
09:30up this offense. And you don't have Trent, you don't have IU that's like out there week one.
09:35That's a very, very scary proposition. All right. Give me a couple of guys on either side of the
09:41ball that you have your most bold stubbornness with. Like, you know, like for example, um,
09:47you know, everyone's obsessed with Mike Mustafa right now, or Renardo green, who you've referenced,
09:52who are the two guys that are under the radar that you're going to take a big time flyer on,
09:58and you're going to be stubborn and bold with long-term with the 49ers.
10:03Yeah, I'll start with Mustafa, man. That guy, he's the truth. Like he, the question with him
10:10is like, can he play free safety because at Wake Forest you watch a tape and he wasn't asked to
10:16play like free safety, just hanging out there in center field a lot, but he had the movement skills
10:20and you watch him. He almost had two picks yesterday. One of them would have been a pick six.
10:26And so the thing with him is like, you, you thought of him as just like a thumper guy.
10:30You can bring in the box. No, like he can play center field. He can range all over the place.
10:35And listen, he's a rookie. There's going to be growing pains, but the speed, the physicality,
10:40the athleticism, and like the trigger to get downhill and pack a ball, that guy,
10:45a guy, your Brown could be a very, very good safety group. If all goes right. Um,
10:51I could, I could also talk about Renardo green, who I loved. I loved him coming out of the draft.
10:56I mocked him to the 49ers right around that spot, but I'll go with Piercehall just cause
11:01I haven't talked about him. Piercehall is a guy that I thought was an awesome pick.
11:06I was a little surprised that the 49ers went that route. Um, but I think he is a guy,
11:12people pin him in as a slot receiver. He can play anywhere, man. Like he's, he's got incredible
11:17athleticism. He snaps off at the top or out the first day of practice. He said he was actually out
11:23there. He beat Isaac. He had him like three or four yards of separation twice, once for touchdown
11:28before he tweaked his shoulder. He had a great, great catch. So the question for him is like,
11:34can you actually just stay healthy? Because if he does, I have no question. He's going to be
11:38a really solid contributor. Maybe he's starting in IUX place. Maybe not either way. My concern
11:45with him is health. He can stay healthy. I think he's going to be a very good player in this league
11:50for a long time. Jake Hutchinson here on the River Islands guest line on the morning roast here on 95
11:5470 game. Couple of quick ones for you here. Backup quarterback. Uh, we see, we obviously know Brock
11:59Purdy starting and he's going to be the starter for the foreseeable future, but who's winning
12:03that competition between Brennan Allen, Joshua Dobbs and Tanner Mordecai. Yeah. Winning is a
12:10strong term for what I've been seeing from those guys. Um, it's not great. I mean, I would,
12:20Jake, before you finish, Brandon Allen backed up Joe Burrow though.
12:26It's a joke. Yeah, he did. That's all he did.
12:30Um, what I'd say about those guys, Brandon Allen, he has, he looked fine to start camp.
12:39He's looking less and less convincing. He had a ball that just like hung up there forever that
12:45Ronnie Bells somehow caught, uh, yesterday. He's not really impressive. Josh Dobbs would,
12:52I will say he started out terrible. I was like, this guy might get cut genuinely. Like he wasn't
12:59getting guys in the right place on offense. He was throwing ducks left and right. And I'm not
13:03saying like he's blowing the doors off the place, but he has a look a lot better. He looks like he's
13:09starting to get a feel for it. Uh, sort of like, you know, he knows what he's doing. So in my view,
13:16I feel like he, you know, maybe they start with Brandon Allen just in terms of understanding the
13:20offense, you know, in a pinch. But I think if Purdy were to be out for any extended time, I
13:25would, I would bet it would be Dobbs just because of the upside. And with Allen, you don't have a
13:30lot of it. And then Tanner Mordecai, you know, we just have not seen all that much of him. Um, I,
13:36I would expect that he's the odd man out and maybe you try and get him to the practice squad.
13:41But yeah, right now I think out of those guys, Dobbs has been more impressive as of late.
13:46Speaker 3
13:46Are the Niners going to be saying, are they doing the joint practices next week with the Saints,
13:50Jake?
13:51Speaker 2
13:52Yeah, they're going down to LA. I want to say it's, it's Thursday and Friday. It's,
13:58it's weird because they go down to LA and Irvine to practice with the same. And then they fly back
14:03to play at Levi's, which is just bizarre. So they're going to fly back home to the Bay area
14:08and then fly down to LA scrimmage and then fly back up to the Bay area.
14:13Yeah. Yeah. Because at their practice facility, they don't have enough space to accommodate,
14:20you know, joint practices. So they're,
14:22they're heading down to the States and Irvine and then flying back.
14:25Speaker 3
14:25Oh gosh. Well, there's a joke in there that Levi's is closer to LAX than it is.
14:34Jake Hutchinson, man. Hey, really good stuff, man. We'll talk to you next. Are you going down
14:38to Irvine? I'm not going to be down at Irvine. Um, but, uh, but I'll, I'll be around camp
14:45until this thing gets gone. Yeah. Well, we'll be catching up with you, man. Really good job,
14:48Jake. Good stuff, Jake. Jake, I appreciate you guys having me on anytime, Jake, anytime.
14:53Jake's a good guy, man. We're going to have him back on. I was smooth. That's so weird.
14:57Jake Hutchinson joined us on the river. I was like, so we're going to fly to Tennessee. You
15:01got to come back, practice a couple of days and fly down to LA scrimmage with the saints in Irvine
15:06and then fly back up. Now the joke, there's a lot.
