The experience allows visitors to start their journey in the floating harbour and explore how the stars guided sailors across the ocean and Uncover artefacts and stories of Bristol’s work in the world of space exploration through exploratory play.

00:00So today I am here doing something that I have never done before and I'm flying a spaceship
00:05to the MShed Bristol to the Space Shanty exhibition in the heart of Bristol's harbourside.
00:11I guess let's give this a go. So it's a project that I devised with Bristol's completely in mind.
00:19It's a walkthrough, story, book, interactive experience. It features a character called Bemi
00:29who's a stowaway on a boat but then he's got dreams of going into space and he's a cheeky
00:33chappy little rat and he's going to guide everybody around and then I've built,
00:40basically written a story and then built, done some filming with a puppet and then we've built
00:46a world that he inhabits so each film is sitting with an installation.
00:54Yeah you're going to go on an adventure, you're going to hear Bemi's stories,
00:59you're gonna help him through because sometimes he might get himself into a bit of pickle,
01:03he might need a little bit of help to get out so he's got some tasks for everybody.
01:08Yeah and you're gonna maybe do a little bit of flying in space, things like that.
01:11So behind me is one of these interactive screens that guides you through the process of the ship
01:17facing a tidal wave and to the left of me there is lots of ropes with the idea that you can
01:25practice all your nautical knots so that is definitely something that I'm gonna have a go
01:30and here I actually don't know what they are so I'm gonna have a little look.
01:36Oh okay so it's a bit like the the ship's windows and inside them they have loads of facts so
01:45I'll definitely be learning a few things that I didn't know today.
01:48Basically it's born out of my interest in well the universe and space but also Bristol's role
01:56in it so the story throughout the story are Peppard's little tiny hints about Bristol's
02:02involvement, the scientists that might have worked into taking people into space, the research that's
02:08been done here, the satellites that have been made here. Bristol's got a huge sort of involvement
02:14with the space race basically. It's a bit of a collab between the commissioning from the museum
02:21and the space was empty over the summer so they really wanted something to happen in there that
02:25was gonna you know be sort of fun but a bit educational and then also that helped me write
02:30the story so I sort of went on a journey from the boats so the character Bemy he starts in a boat
02:37and then he goes into the space and there's a history there's some tying in points there where
02:42boats and sailors used to navigate using the stars so there's a kind of a plot line there
02:48in the story as well. I guess all that is left to do now is to enjoy the view of space
