00:00The White House.
00:03Most people know what it looks like on the outside, but how about the inside?
00:07In this video, I want to show you each floor and what the different rooms are used for.
00:11That's coming up.
00:21Let's make sure we're all on the same page here.
00:23The White House is located in Washington, D.C., which is on the east coast of the United
00:27States of America.
00:29So here's Virginia, and here's Maryland, and here's Washington, D.C.
00:35The White House is located here.
00:40The White House is home to the President of the United States of America.
00:44When you think of the White House, you probably picture a view like this.
00:48But if we zoom out a little bit, you'll see that there's a lot more to it.
00:53You can separate the building into three different parts.
00:55The Residence, the West Wing, and the East Wing.
00:59Let's start with the East Wing.
01:02There's two stories here which have many different rooms and offices.
01:06The second floor is usually occupied by the First Lady and her staff.
01:11This is the guest entrance to the White House.
01:14When there are events or social gatherings, the visitors will enter here.
01:20Here's the lobby.
01:21We don't know for sure what these other rooms are used for, but it's neat to see what the
01:24floor layout looks like.
01:26This is the Garden Room and the East Colonnade.
01:29This is the Family Theater.
01:31It's mostly used to watch movies, but occasionally it's used for the President to rehearse his
01:35speeches.
01:36Once we get through the Visitor's Foyer, then we enter the main part of the White House
01:40known as the Residence.
01:43This is the North Portico, and this is the South Portico.
01:50The Residence has four floors plus the sub-basement.
01:54Let's start at the very bottom.
01:56The sub-basement consists of storage, laundry, and mechanical rooms to run the White House.
02:02It even has bathrooms down here.
02:05This part is called the Basement Mezzanine.
02:07It's not quite as tall as a full floor.
02:10You'll find similar rooms down here as well.
02:14This is the Ground Floor, which connects to the East Wing and the West Wing.
02:19First let's point out the restrooms.
02:20That's always a good thing to know.
02:22This is the Center Hall, which connects most of the rooms.
02:26Here's the Vermeer Room and the China Room.
02:27A lot of fancy things are stored in these two rooms.
02:30The Diplomatic Reception Room.
02:32This is where the foreign ambassadors enter the White House.
02:35This is the Map Room.
02:37Sometimes TV interviews happen here.
02:38We got some Doctor's Offices to keep the President healthy, and Housekeeper's Offices here.
02:45This is the Library, the Curator's Office.
02:47That's kind of like the White House Historian, the Secret Service, and the Kitchen.
02:53This is the Flower Shop, the Carpenter Shop, and the Bowling Alley.
02:57That's right, there's a Bowling Alley in the White House.
03:00The Bowling Alley is actually right underneath the steps for the North Portico.
03:05These steps lead right into the first floor of the White House Residence.
03:11A lot of action happens here.
03:13This is the East Room.
03:14A lot of social gatherings and performances happen here.
03:18The Green Room, Blue Room, and Red Room.
03:20Yes, the rooms are colored that way as well.
03:24Here's the Cross Hall and the Entrance Hall.
03:27This is the Grand Staircase.
03:28This is where the President and the First Lady can make their Grand Entrance.
03:32The State Dining Room is where a large amount of guests can be fed.
03:35The Smaller Family Dining Room is located here.
03:38The Usher's Room is located here so that guests can check in when they enter the White
03:41House.
03:43The second floor is known as the Family Residence.
03:47This floor is where the President and his family lived during their time at the White
03:50House.
03:51These rooms have been rearranged and used in different ways over the last 200 years.
03:56Traditionally, this has been known as the President's Bedroom.
03:59The top of the Grand Staircase is here, and there's another dining room and a kitchen
04:04on this level too.
04:07The third floor is another place to get lost.
04:10It's usually the place where the President and his family can relax.
04:15This is the Solarium, also called the Sun Room.
04:18It has some beautiful views looking out over Washington D.C.
04:21The area here and here is called the Promenade, another favorite of the third floor.
04:26The final section of the White House is called the West Wing.
04:30This is where the President and his staff have their offices.
04:33From this view, you can see that it has two stories, but if we come over here, you can
04:37see there's another floor.
04:39This is the Ground Floor.
04:40Let's start here.
04:42This is the Foyer and the Lobby.
04:43I imagine you have to be pretty important to walk through these doors.
04:47Lots of other rooms and offices down here.
04:49Notice this large room for the Secret Service.
04:53This room is called the Situation Room.
04:55From right here, the President can command the armed forces anywhere in the world.
05:00The first floor of the West Wing connects to the Residence.
05:03Once we go through the Palm Room, we have the West Colonnade, which is actually outside.
05:08The Press Corps Offices, which is where the reporters have some cramped office space.
05:12The Press Briefing Room.
05:14This is one of the more famous rooms you'll see on TV and in the movies.
05:17Several decades ago, you would have found a swimming pool in this space.
05:21Here's the Cabinet Room.
05:22Lots of meetings happen here.
05:24Of course, we can't forget the Oval Office.
05:26The President spends most of his time here.
05:29Other rooms here house more of the President's staff.
05:33And this is the main entrance to the West Wing.
05:37The West Wing also has a second floor.
05:40There's a lot more offices up here for other people who assist and help the President.
05:45Hey everyone!
05:46I'm Jared Owen, and if you want to see what I'm working on next, head on over to my Patreon
05:49page.
05:50I post things there that you won't find here on YouTube.
05:53As for this video, there was so much information that I just couldn't cover everything.
05:57I'm thinking of making a second video about the White House.
06:00Any suggestions for what I should include?
06:02Let me know in the comments below.
06:03As always, thanks for your support, and I'll see you next time.
