00:00The Energy Regulatory Commission, ERC, has already planned to lower the price of electricity in the country.
00:06This is followed by the creation of some laws regarding the additional cost of electricity that is not consumed by the customer.
00:14Tina Pangaliban Perez has the first news.
00:19In the discussion of the camera in the budget of the Department of Energy,
00:23some congressmen complained about the high price of electricity in the Philippines.
00:28The average is more than 10 pesos per kilowatt-hour, according to Baguio City.
00:33It is even more expensive than electricity in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
00:39This is discouraging to the investors.
00:43Our price should be at par with the other ASEAN countries.
00:49The Energy Department said,
00:52In other countries, the government pays for the electricity bill,
00:56so it is cheaper for the consumers.
00:59Aside from that,
01:00Since they produce oil, they produce natural gas, and they produce coal,
01:06what they do is they require the coal suppliers to give domestic generators a lower price than what they charge for export.
01:18Customers are also complaining about the system's loss,
01:23or the wasted electricity that is not consumed,
01:26like what was stolen from the jumpers or the wrong passage of the metro.
01:31It is an added cost.
01:34It is very high.
01:35According to the ERC, there is a limitation of the wasted electricity that can be passed on to the customers.
01:425.5% is the cap for system's loss.
01:45So if there are losses beyond that, that means they have not been upgrading their lines.
01:52They will admit the value.
01:55The ERC is also studying if the system's losses can be exempted from VAT,
02:01and other things related to the electric bill.
02:03The study focused on particularly the possible exemption from VAT of system's loss,
02:10lifeline rate subsidy, and senior citizen discount subsidy.
02:14The DOE and the ERC assured that they are continuing to strive to lower the cost of electricity.
02:20In fact, they are recommending reforms and measures.
02:26For example, they are planning to do something about the bills and penalties that they do not plan to raise.
02:35Redirect those fines and penalties to lowering the rates,
02:39instead of remitting all our collections to National Treasury.
02:44As part of the study, the electricity companies are very stingy.
02:49That is why the audit of their power rate continues.
02:53This is the first news.
