People on the Street: Will the summer holidays increase energy costs?

With kids now firmly in the midst of their summer holidays, a survey of parents has revealed some fear about energy costs going up.

We’ve asked people on the streets of Manchester if they’ve noticed a difference, or if they remember a time that their parents nagged them about turning off lights.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking
00:03people about their energy bills. Now that kids are home for the summer, I mean, I remember
00:07accidentally leaving the light in my bedroom, accidentally leaving the Xbox running. Are
00:10they concerned about that boosting the cost of their energy bills and what do they plan
00:15to do about it?
00:17Just gaming a bit more, watching television. When the weather's not great, they're indoors
00:21more.
00:22Okay, funny enough, yes, I'm not going to name in shame, but yes, certainly with regards
00:27to leaving lights on and having long showers, we'll leave it there.
00:32All the time. Literally, my dad used to call me, because when you're in your room, you're
00:37playing FIFA or something, the lights are on. You know what I'm saying? You all turn
00:41the light off, save a little 2p there, save a little 2p there. So yeah, I can understand.
00:45We've set weekly budgets, haven't we, which are exceeded regularly. I don't know, we've
00:50just managed it.
00:51Obviously, now that I'm growing up as well, I can see why they want to turn the lights
00:54off and when you're not using it, turn it off. Every little penny adds up, you know
00:59what I'm saying?
