The nights are drawing in and it's getting chillier as November approaches. We asked Sheffield's residents if they have turned on their heating yet - or if the cost of living crisis has made them more hesitant to put the boiler?

00:00 Hi, it's Arthur from Sheffield Star and we're no more than asking people whether they've
00:03 turned on their heating yet this year and we've had to make that decision.
00:06 How's it been for you so far?
00:08 Well, we live in London so it's a lot milder there and warmer so we haven't actually switched it on yet.
00:16 Have you found things coming back up here to the north?
00:20 I'm actually wearing her coat because that is not sufficient enough to keep me warm up here.
00:26 So we've definitely climatised to the south.
00:30 You were telling us that you're actually from Sheffield originally I suppose.
00:33 It is really devised right along the middle.
00:35 More expensive down there too I imagine.
00:38 Has that affected whether you've put on the heating or not as well?
00:42 Not really but it is in the back of your mind.
00:46 You do think about obviously the cost and things but you've got children as well which obviously impacts
00:54 your decision as well rather than just having it on for you.
00:58 But yeah, it is something that you do think about.
01:02 Do I really need the heating on right now or can we go without it?
01:08 It's nice.
01:11 Hi, it's Arthur from the Sheffield Star and we're here asking people because this is the week of the year
01:15 statistically where people start turning their heating on and we're asking people if that's happened to them yet.
01:20 How's your experience been of this?
01:22 I have put it on but I've only got three in the cold.
01:24 I'm not having it on for as many hours as I would with some heating suits.
01:29 I keep putting it on because I've got an app that tracks the cost and people can then turn it down or off.
01:36 Has that affected you? People get this smart app that tells you exactly how much you're spending and going up and down
01:41 and it changes your habits a little bit. Have you had that experience?
01:44 Yeah, it definitely scares you.
01:46 So you do turn things off. Yeah, definitely.
01:49 We had a bit of a bad winter last year, cost of living crisis and the rest of it.
01:52 Are you worried about winter going into it this time?
01:55 Like, for some reason I don't think it will be as bad as last year.
02:00 Maybe because we've got used to paying a bit more money and maybe we've also got used to saving money in certain areas
02:07 with heating, turning it down, turning it off and certainly a bit more aware this year than last year.
