When should you get your boiler serviced?
Transcript
00:00So obviously Martin there is a big debate across the nation in terms of when it's appropriate to
00:05fully switch off your heating come the summer months. Why do you think it's such a contentious
00:10debate in households? I guess it's more pertinent now that our gas bills and electricity bills
00:19combined are approaching £2,000 a year on average. Ten years ago when they were less than half that
00:28it wasn't perhaps so hotly contested but nowadays of course yeah you turn your heating off
00:37well use it rather as infrequently as you can just to keep your bills low but there is also this fact
00:44that certain people are colder than others at certain times of the year and I think this point
00:51of the year spring time where you get slightly misled it looks rather nice and sunny outside
01:00but it's actually slightly colder than it looks and the other part of the end of summer when we're
01:06into autumn and approaching winter that's the other time of the year where people are sort of thinking
01:13oh gosh it's a bit fresh today you know shall I put the heating on or not. Yeah that's certainly the
01:19best time of the year to have your boiler serviced is through the summer period where it's probably only
01:26going to be used to create generate hot water the heating typically is off for on average two or three
01:34months at least of the summer months and probably a bit more with our fingers crossed. So yeah that's the
01:41time where we should all get our boilers serviced and they really should be serviced annually as well
01:47just to keep them at their best of efficiency and you know keep them durable for the expected time that
01:54they should live for really which is typically 12 to 15 years probably more economic just to heat the room
02:02in which you're occupying your office or bedroom or wherever it may be you're working from
02:08so a small localised heater for those instances rather than heating you know three bedrooms and
02:15all the rest of the house is probably more economic to do but there is a balance between uh wearing
02:21summer clothing in the autumn and winter and wearing obviously proper clothing which will keep you warm and
02:29still comfortable
02:38you
