00:00Okay, here are my five top winter warmer tips from Grace Pleming.
00:06Tip number one is layers. I don't want to sound condescending but if you're putting your
00:13heating on and you've got shorts and t-shirt it's it's a waste of money. Make sure you've got
00:19your socks on, trousers, dressing gown, maybe a hooded fluffy dressing gown, anything to keep
00:25yourself warm before turning the heating up. My second tip I would say is draft excluders.
00:33They are so simple to make if you don't want to buy one. Yeah, they're simple to make. A pair
00:39of tights, some old clothes in it, put it under the gaps in under your door, covering the gaps
00:45on your flooring, windows, having thick curtains in the winter. Yeah, those kind of things can help
00:52reduce the amount of heat loss in your house and again save you money on your energy bills.
01:04Number three is your boiler. If you have a combi boiler you can set your setting for the heating
01:12to 55 degrees and the reason why we have it at this temperature is because most combi boilers
01:20now are condensing boilers and that is when they are condensing they are run at their most
01:25efficient saving you energy and a lot of people put it up but really 55 should be fine. If it's
01:33a bit colder maybe 60 and that will also save, that could save you almost 50 percent. This can
01:41save you up to 50 percent a year on your energy bills. My fourth tip I would say is your thermostats.
01:52So your room stats, they can be set to whatever temperature you want. If you have it on the ideal
02:00temperature which is between 19 and 21 degrees maybe try just turning it down by one degree.
02:06All right so what I would say is turn down your thermostat. I would say again with your system
02:18controls it would be the TRVs which is your thermostatic radiator valve and in the rooms that
02:24you're using you can turn them up and in the rooms that you're not using turn them down a little
02:31and also with your timers and programmers set them for a time maybe half an hour before you
02:38get into the house and on an evening and maybe half an hour before you get up in the morning
02:46and have it on for a couple of hours in during that time where you're getting ready
02:51and getting dressed and then make sure that it turns off whilst well before you go out.
