Are expectations too low in Miami Dolphins locker room?

Mike McDaniel revealed today that it's unlikely that Tua plays in Friday's preseason game. River Cracraft has the orange jersey at practice today. Another brouhaha during special teams.
Transcript
00:00Do you think Tua lines up on Friday?
00:01Mike McDaniels basically said no.
00:03He wouldn't say no, but he basically said no today.
00:06Right.
00:07Jordan loves playing though.
00:08Jordan loves playing.
00:09Again, I told you what they're gonna do
00:13with the quarterback situation.
00:15Now you can believe it or not,
00:17but that's what they're gonna do.
00:19And every coach has a different attitude
00:22towards how they play their players, right?
00:28Like it used to be, believe it or not,
00:32we had five preseason games.
00:34I had two years, I had six preseason games.
00:37Cause if you played in the hall of fame game,
00:38you still had to play your five.
00:42And it would go the first game,
00:47the starters would get like 10 plays, right?
00:50One drive.
00:51Second series play through,
00:52second game play through the first quarter.
00:56Third game, you go into halftime.
01:01Fourth game, you would go into halftime,
01:04come out of halftime and run one series there.
01:08And then the last game, you would come out,
01:11get a good run, see if things were going good.
01:14And there was no real timeframe of when you get taken out.
01:19Yeah.
01:19Because they wanted you to work on the stuff.
01:23The last week you do like a real game plan
01:25against the team you're playing and so forth and so on.
01:28So it's changed, but I always wonder
01:34if you don't prepare yourself to play football,
01:38are you actually creating more injuries
01:41when you have to go out there and everything gets going
01:45and you play to a high level
01:47and you haven't played to that high level yet?
01:50Yeah, that's an interesting thing,
01:51because they are, Mike McNails,
01:54overly cautious with injuries, right?
01:56Guys don't really play through things,
01:58but you are in a situation right now,
02:00like you don't have what, six wide receivers out there?
02:04Apparently they're-
02:04Don't worry about that.
02:05Don't worry about that.
02:06All right, I won't worry about it.
02:08Don't worry about it, because it's happened.
02:10Listen, especially that wide receiver,
02:13I told you they do a lot of running.
02:16They get sore.
02:18You need to, like, there's a fine line
02:21between working off that soreness
02:23and getting ready for the season
02:25and overworking yourself
02:26to when the season starts, you got nothing.
02:29Cam Smith apparently is not out of practice again today,
02:32after two days back.
02:33DBs too, DBs, same issue.
02:35So usually during camp,
02:37every team's signing a bunch of wide receivers,
02:38a bunch of DBs.
02:39Just got back though, dude.
02:41Like, what the hell happened?
02:43Them, like, tweaking a hammy
02:46in your second week of camp is no joke,
02:50because you're terrified.
02:51If they don't treat it right,
02:53you're going to be dealing with that for months.
02:57River Craycraft is the orange jersey today.
03:00Yeah!
03:02On the wide receiver playing.
03:03And your balls!
03:06Can't wait to see what that playlist is like.
03:09I don't know.
03:11I feel like he's going to have a diverse playlist.
03:13He's going to mix it up, River Craycraft.
03:15I do think he's going to mix it up.
03:16If he has any Willie Nelson?
03:19I don't.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Jordan Poyer's misses six straight practice.
03:25That one has me nervous,
03:26because he's got a little bit of durability stuff, so.
03:29And he's old.
03:31And he came in talking trash.
03:33He did!
03:34Yeah, you gave him a...
03:36Like, that's been an interesting thing,
03:37because, like,
03:38Klayas Campbell was talking about this
03:39a little bit yesterday,
03:40about, you know,
03:41he's been very vocal about the mentality
03:44that they want to be bullies.
03:45So you have him coming in new.
03:47He thinks he wants to change the reputation of the Dolphins.
03:49Jordan Poyer obviously said,
03:51Dolphins with full.
03:52Jordan Brooks, he's new.
03:53He said he wants the Dolphins to be bullied,
03:54change the mentality.
03:55So, all of these new starters on defense
03:59have come in with a very clear,
04:03either that was a message they got from Chris Greer,
04:05or that was just what was heard.
04:06That's the message they got from Weaver.
04:09Weaver, okay.
04:09Yeah.
04:10Think about Weaver and Baltimore.
04:14What is the first thing you think of
04:15when you think of Baltimore defense?
04:16Nasty.
04:17Okay.
04:18So, he's brought guys in,
04:21they brought guys in,
04:23and he,
04:24hey, we need to change the way we play.
04:27We need to be more physical.
04:28We need to do this.
04:29This is, I want you guys to set this tone.
04:31If I think of them as the Paul Maurice of football.
04:35Two-one filthy.
04:36Pretty much.
04:37But that's...
04:37Two-one filthy.
04:38And if you notice,
04:41they're huge up front, right?
04:44On the defensive line.
04:46They got linebacks who can run,
04:49safeties who can hit,
04:51and cornerbacks who are going to be aggressive.
04:54So,
04:56if you have the players in place,
04:59now all you have to play with is that attitude.
05:02You don't have to go to Jalen and have him worry about that.
05:08But the interesting thing is,
05:10like, the Dolphins,
05:12the Dolphins didn't have that identity issue,
05:15I feel like, on defense.
05:16Like, I didn't feel the Dolphins were a soft defensive team.
05:19It's offensive.
05:21Isn't that whole thing,
05:21isn't that whole narrative that we say on the Dolphins,
05:24isn't that an offensive thing?
05:25But here's what happens, okay?
05:31When you are that way defensively,
05:34and you practice against your offense,
05:36and then the other coaches say,
05:37we have to match their intensity,
05:39boom, the whole team becomes tough, right?
05:43When you talk about physical running,
05:46because the defense is playing with a level of physicality
05:50that you aren't used to seeing,
05:52then, boom, now the offense is playing at that level.
05:55So, when you think about it,
05:59they can affect the whole team,
06:01because you're practicing against those guys right away.
06:05So, you're practicing against those guys every day.
06:08That's kind of how that goes.
06:10So, Mike McDaniel is never gonna say anything about it,
06:15because yes, there have been a lot of moments
06:20during the season last year,
06:22where I've said to you,
06:25this is a point in time
06:26where you need to have a physical run game,
06:29and you need to close, run out the clock.
06:31Yeah, Marcos, this Leroy, he knows football, dude.
06:34Let me tell you something.
06:35He knows some things, man.
06:37He knows some things.
06:38And shout out to Dade South for the update,
06:41because Barry Jackson has reported,
06:42there is another brouhaha.
06:45Leroy has told us it's either wide receivers
06:47and cornerbacks, or in this case,
06:51Falcons tight end John Fitzpatrick
06:53in the middle of a fight between Dolphins linebackers,
06:55Cam Brown and Curtis Bolton.
06:58Wow.
06:59Tight ends and linebackers.
07:00Apparently, it was during special teams.
07:02Special teams, you know why?
07:04Because the dude blocking was getting too damn grabby,
07:08because it ain't going to get called, right?
07:10There's no, they have officials, but they don't call it.
07:12So, like, linebacks and tight ends,
07:14when they run those pass patterns or whatever,
07:16they holding and grabbing,
07:18and it's, hey, this is how it starts.
07:21I'm tired of you holding me, or else what?
07:24Fight.
