00:00Consider all Colonial Marines dispatched to LV-426 to be KIA.
00:05Repeat, all Marines dispatched to LV-426 were KIA.
00:09Welcome to Mojo Plays.
00:11And just because they were bad games doesn't mean they were bad games.
00:16Today we'll be looking at bad games that could still be redeemed with a little love and attention
00:21and a full-on From the Ground Up remake.
00:31Ugh.

00:40Blinx the Time Sweeper
00:42Platformers are one of the oldest genres in gaming
00:45and likewise can make it difficult to innovate on the familiar formula.
00:50Blinx attempted to shake things up by giving players control over time itself.
00:54And while the idea was novel,
00:56this was a year before The Prince was rewinding the sands of time,
01:00its execution was sorely lacking.
01:03With a bizarre control scheme that seemed to actively work against the player,
01:07frustrating level design,
01:09and an almost non-existent narrative to drive things forward,
01:12Blinx just didn't have the same charm and creativity of his counterparts such as Ratchet and Clank.
01:18However, that doesn't mean the cat can't turn back time and have a second chance.
01:23With not only Xbox, but the entire industry hurting for family-friendly platformers,
01:29Blinx could use his wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey time manipulation
01:33to have an adventure worthy of his powers.
01:36Aliens Colonial Marines
01:38Get me the hell out of here.
01:44No! Shoot that thing!
01:46Brilliant in concept, shackled in execution,
01:49Aliens Colonial Marines had a lot going for it.
01:53Canonically, it was designed to be a direct sequel to James Cameron's masterpiece, Aliens,
01:58and gave players what they'd always wanted,
02:01the chance to battle a xenomorph horde alongside up to four of your comrades.
02:06However, nearly everything about the final product was a mess.
02:10From misleading footage to downright abhorrent enemy AI,
02:14what could have been the definitive alien experience was somehow worse than frenching a facehugger.
02:20The closest gamers have gotten to a promised similar experience is Fireteam Elite,
02:25but even this was disappointing compared to what Colonial Marines could have been
02:30if given the proper time and resources to fulfill its ambition.
02:42Fuse
02:45Everybody out!
02:54Originally named Overstrike,
02:56Insomniac's third-person shooter had a lot more personality than what we eventually received.
03:02Most likely due to EA interference as usual,
03:05what we got was a dull, bland third-person cover shooter
03:09devoid of the prestigious developer's traditionally fun gameplay.
03:13What could have been the start of the hero shooter genre and a solid co-op experience
03:17felt more like a bargain bin experience than something coming from a developer
03:21known for their tight gameplay and inventive weapons.
03:24Given the surge of live-service hero shooters,
03:27something new from Insomniac could potentially make a splash in a genre that is dying for innovation.
03:33Or, preferably, the teamwork dynamic and special weapon abilities of Fuse
03:38could become the throwback, go-to couch co-op shooter experience
03:41which gamers are arguably in even more dire need of.
03:53Advent Rising
03:54Don't you touch it!
04:01No!
04:04Ethan!
04:06Sometimes, a project's scope outpaces the technology available at the time.
04:11And sadly, that was the fate of Advent Rising.
04:15You destroyed my world.
04:19Oh dear, the little savage is upset.
04:23Featuring some staggering talent such as Orson Scott Card,
04:26the writer of Ender's Game, as the narrative lead,
04:29and plans to create a multimedia universe full of sequels, novels, and graphic novels,
04:34the potential franchise ran out of steam after the first game.
04:38Due to a myriad of bugs, a fussy camera, and bizarre design decisions,
04:43who thought a flick targeting system was a good idea,
04:46the Advent Rising series flew too close to the sun and ended up crashing and burning.
04:51However, in the modern era of sequels, spin-offs, and reboots,
04:56something like Advent Rising could have the potential to flourish,
04:59and its vividly detailed sci-fi future aesthetic
05:02could fill the void left by the long-dormant Mass Effect series.
05:07Come with me, human.
05:10There is much to be done.
05:12Come.
05:15To Human.
05:19Please, my lord.
05:21We don't want to-
05:25Disregarding all the other issues with developer Silicon Knights,
05:28To Human was already facing an uphill battle long before release.
05:33Initially planned for the PS1,
05:35development moved to the GameCube before finally releasing on the Xbox 360,
05:40and despite the massive hype around the title,
05:42to say it under-delivered would be an understatement.
05:46The idea of a futuristic version of Norse mythology is undeniably an intriguing one,
05:51and many of the sci-fi elements were extremely well thought out,
05:55but were bogged down by absolutely ridiculous design decisions.
05:59Using a fixed camera and targeting locked to the right analog stick,
06:04players mostly guided Baldur down hallways blindly firing at enemies,
06:08and should they die, be subjected to an overly long and unskippable Valkyrie resurrection scene.
06:15However, the game's brilliant art direction,
06:17and a story that finally kicked off right at the end,
06:20has enough potential that a remake with modern quality of life improvements
06:24could jumpstart a franchise.
06:26I swear I will end her suffering, and theirs,
06:30and make sure you feel their pain a thousand fold!
06:34Dark Void
06:39Oh, Edina, are you alright?
06:42Yeah, that was close.
06:45After the success of Gears of War,
06:47cover shooters were all the rage of the late 2010s,
06:50and although a few attempted to innovate on the formula,
06:53few were able to truly stand out.
06:55Utilizing a jetpack, players were able to use cover on sheer surfaces,
07:00as well as take to the skies to take out hard to reach enemies,
07:04and take part in surprisingly engaging aerial dogfights.
07:07However, the Rocketeer aesthetic was marred by numerous technical bugs,
07:12and the supernatural alternate retro-futuristic history angle revolving around the Bermuda Triangle
07:17was underutilized in what could have easily been a standout entry in the genre.
07:22With a tighter script and gameplay,
07:24as well as a more cohesive narrative with greater stakes,
07:27and even potentially an open world setting to explore with a jetpack,
07:31Dark Void could set a new standard for cover-based shooters
07:34at a time when the genre has become stagnant.
07:39Well, you play the card you're dealt.
07:41I imagine you do.
07:43Legendary.
07:56The mid-2000s represents one of the most creative and experimental times for developers.
08:02Following in the footsteps of similarly cinematic first-person shooter Bioshock,
08:06Legendary had players unleashing the powers of Pandora's Box,
08:10and using their newfound powers, as well as a myriad of firearms,
08:14to battle all manner of legendary mythical beasts in a modern setting.
08:19The game was much more linear than its counterparts,
08:22and was clearly hindered by a bare-bones narrative,
08:25and the developer was clearly punching above their weight,
08:28but the idea of doing battle with mythological creatures of Greek legend in modern day,
08:33as the city crumbles around them,
08:35is intriguing enough of a concept that with enough time and a bigger budget,
08:40it could have the potential to stand alongside the acclaimed Bioshock series.
08:44And just like most overly ambitious titles of the time,
08:47the game already left itself open for potential sequels.
08:51I'm sorry you came to this. We can't afford to ask nicely.
08:54Just remember, this is for the good of humanity.
08:57Lair.
08:58There was one belief shared by all,
09:01that whoever controlled the skies had dominion over the land.
09:06What happens when you take a developer like Factor 5,
09:09renowned for their Star Wars Rogue Squadron series,
09:12and shackle them with imprecise and unnecessary motion controls?
09:17You cripple all the potential of a major hit for your new game system,
09:21and subsequently punish the studio for your stupidity by shutting them down.
09:26Or, at least that's what Sony did.
09:28Do you know how hard it is to make playing as a fire-breathing dragon an experience completely devoid of fun?
09:35Lair was understandably ambitious for its time,
09:38with battles taking place both on the ground and in the air,
09:41and Factor 5 was able to release a patch that made the game a much more stable experience,
09:46as well as disabling the abhorrent motion controls,
09:49but by then, most players had already given up on the game.
09:53You are not worthy to command this dragon!
09:56I command nothing! A dragon chooses its own master.
10:00Star Fox Zero.
10:03Entering Corneria's orbit.
10:09It's been too long.
10:11Nintendo fans have been demanding a new Star Fox game for literal console generations,
10:17and Nintendo finally answered their request with Star Fox Zero.
10:21Unfortunately, for the ill-fated Wii U.
10:24What could have potentially been a triumphant return for the beloved franchise,
10:29instead crashed and burned due to Nintendo's insistence on the mandatory use of the Wii U gamepad.
10:35The Wii U was one of Nintendo's biggest failures,
10:39and was already on its way to the recycle bin by the time Zero was released,
10:44so the gamepad requirement for what could have been another entry into a long-dormant flagship series is baffling.
10:51However, out of all the entries on our list, this is the easiest to remake.
10:57Simply remove the awful gamepad interface and re-release the game,
11:01and Star Fox Zero could be another classic in the fighter pilot's storied history,
11:06and potentially the start of a second renaissance for the series.
11:10There's a place for you in the Cornerian Army, if you want it.
11:14Sorry, General. We like doing things our own way.
11:19Good, you're awake. I wasn't sure how long you'd be under.
11:23Those tranquilizers wore off fast.
11:26Unless I'm still drugged, I don't think we've met.
11:30Obsidian had a rough go of it for quite a few years before fully hitting their stride.
11:35After having their last big projects rushed out the door, KOTOR 2 and Fallout New Vegas,
11:41Obsidian's next attempt to claim their rightful place as an RPG powerhouse, Alpha Protocol,
11:46ended up suffering a similar fate.
11:49While other developers were focused on medieval or sci-fi settings,
11:53Alpha Protocol attempted to make the player-driven RPG a bit more covert,
11:58and dropped players into a world of espionage and intrigue.
12:01However, their ambitions for a new approach to the genre outpaced their abilities at the time,
12:07and its implementation of necessary elements such as gunplay and a cover system
12:11were poorly implemented and dragged down the experience.
12:15Obsidian is finally receiving the recognition they've always deserved,
12:19and we'd love to see them take another crack at their unique approach to the spy genre.
12:25If anyone is to blame for these events, Mr. Thornton, it is you.
12:32Which bad game do you think deserves a remake to achieve its full potential?
12:36How do you explain the collateral damage your team leaves in its wake?
12:42Enthusiasm?
