00:08 Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:10 Today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 best
00:12 PlayStation remakes, so long as the remake was a PlayStation
00:15 exclusive before or after it counts for our consideration.
00:18 [GROWLING]
00:27 Number 10, The Last of Us Part I.
00:29 It's got everything to do with that little girl.
00:30 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:36 Admittedly, we can understand why folks
00:37 were salty over this title.
00:39 Seriously, no factions mode, and you still want $70?
00:42 To Naughty Dog's credit, the original Last of Us
00:44 was improved upon here.
00:46 Many of the mechanics, controls, and AI within Part II
00:48 helped the predecessor shine here.
00:50 [GRUNTING]
00:57 Yes, we know the PS4 remaster was just as good
00:59 and is still widely playable today.
01:01 However, for those who somehow still haven't played it,
01:04 The Last of Us Part I was a good jumping off point,
01:06 so long as you didn't grab the PC port.
01:08 [SCREAMING]
01:16 Number 9, Medieval.
01:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:24 The original game was an instant classic on the PS1
01:26 with its unique art style, wondrous score,
01:28 and colorful characters.
01:30 But what could it have looked like with 20 years
01:32 of improved technology?
01:33 You get the 2019 remake developed for the PS4.
01:35 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:42 Sir Daniel Fortescue retains his cartoony, jawless look,
01:46 and the land of Gallowmere is now fully realized.
01:48 Every level looks just how it looked in 1998,
01:50 but with significantly better textures, controls,
01:52 and visual effects.
01:53 And if you would love to go back and play the original Medieval,
01:56 developer Other Ocean Emeryville tucked it away
01:58 as an unlockable for beating the remake 100%.
02:01 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:07 Number 8, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix.
02:10 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:18 For a time, the only way to play this collection
02:19 was on the PlayStation 3.
02:21 And it was kind of necessary if you
02:22 wanted to get into the series if the first game hasn't aged
02:24 well in terms of controls.
02:26 But due to most of the game's assets getting lost,
02:28 director Tetsuya Nomura and his team
02:30 had to rebuild the first Kingdom Hearts from the ground up.
02:33 With it came some serious improvements
02:35 that were desperately needed.
02:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:44 All of the music was redone and took full advantage
02:47 of the PS3's audio output.
02:48 Combat and controls were made to handle similarly to Kingdom
02:51 Hearts 2, making it more accessible to newcomers
02:53 and more replayable.
02:55 It may not be exactly like the original,
02:56 but 1.5 Remix was the hero we needed
02:59 to preserve the first game.
03:00 If we stick together, we're unbeatable.
03:03 Not even Hercules stands a chance.
03:06 With these guys beside me, I'm ready for anything.
03:09 Number 7, Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
03:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:18 The original PS1 games are still a treasure to play today.
03:21 In terms of graphics, though, they could definitely
03:23 benefit from modern hardware.
03:24 Developed by Toys for Bob, Spyro Reignited
03:27 managed to capture the magic and wonder of the first three games.
03:29 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:36 The characters exuded personality
03:38 and no longer looked like expressionless muffins.
03:40 Levels saw beautiful texture work
03:42 and were only redesigned in small areas
03:44 where it was absolutely necessary.
03:46 And Steve Copeland's new rendition
03:47 of his music from the original games
03:49 was just as fantastic as it was decades ago.
03:51 Our only complaint was that they couldn't
03:53 seem to fix all that trouble with the trolley nonsense.
03:56 But first, let me tell you a story.
04:00 No thanks.
04:01 See ya.
04:02 Number 6, Pac-Man World Repack.
04:04 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:11 The most aggravating part of the original Pac-Man World
04:14 was how it was designed to fight back against game rentals
04:16 at the time.
04:17 Just look at the cave levels in Anubis Rex.
04:19 Repack managed to fix every problem
04:21 with the original game.
04:22 In addition to increasing Pac-Man's speed,
04:24 every level got a major makeover in visuals and design.
04:27 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:32 Every level felt way shorter and more concise
04:34 with the placement of collectibles.
04:36 Boss fights like Anubis Rex saw some major tweaks
04:38 to make their fights more exciting and satisfying.
04:41 And the checkpoint system?
04:42 Way more reasonable than the original.
04:44 We're seriously hoping that remakes for World 2 and World
04:46 3 are already underway.
04:48 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:53 Number 5, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
04:56 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:04 Before we saw the return of Sir Fortescue and Spyro,
05:06 Crash began the surge of PS1 remakes
05:08 with the N. Sane Trilogy.
05:10 For the first time in over a decade,
05:11 the original Crash Bandicoot titles
05:13 were finally being brought forward and given
05:15 a fresh coat of paint.
05:16 Vicarious Visions really knocked it out of the park
05:19 with the character animation, level design, and lighting.
05:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:28 On top of that, all the current cast
05:30 reprised their roles with the original writing left intact.
05:33 Since then, the Bandicoot has finally
05:34 received a fourth game, a remake of Crash Team Racing,
05:37 and a MOBA.
05:39 Here's hoping his future will shine brighter
05:41 with a shade of green.
05:42 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:48 Number 4, Ratchet & Clank.
05:49 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:58 While many would argue this 2016 reboot is nothing
06:00 like the original games, well, it is.
06:02 The family-friendly tone has been a part of the series
06:05 since Tools of Destruction.
06:06 And given how mean Ratchet is to Clank in the first game,
06:09 the remake was sorely needed.
06:10 Here, the Lombax and Warbot have more humble beginnings,
06:13 with Clank being much more intelligent
06:14 and Ratchet acting less snarky.
06:16 You must be Big Al.
06:17 It is nice to meet you.
06:19 I am Clank.
06:20 This is Ratchet.
06:22 The best part was how we were given a better backstory
06:24 for both Quark and Dr. Nefarious without the narrative losing
06:27 complete control like in the original.
06:29 Everything makes more sense here in terms
06:30 of the lore of the story and, more importantly,
06:32 the characters.
06:33 Promise me you'll get that info bot to Captain Quark.
06:37 I promise.
06:38 Thanks for your help.
06:39 Number three, Demon's Souls.
06:40 The original Demon's Souls was great for what it was in 2009.
06:51 But with the advancements in technology
06:52 we've made since then, it is really, really tough
06:55 to go back to.
06:56 Long load times, awful frame rate, janky controls.
06:59 It isn't pretty.
07:00 Bluepoint Games, however, managed
07:01 to rebuild the entire game.
07:02 And it's almost as if they simply ported the game forward.
07:05 [GROWLING]
07:07 Yes, it looks almost exactly like the original Demon's Souls.
07:15 But now it's packed with incredibly fast load times
07:17 and a buttery smooth 60 frames per second.
07:20 It looks insanely beautiful.
07:21 Just look at these dismal environments.
07:23 [GROWLING]
07:26 Number two, Shadow of the Colossus.
07:30 [GROWLING]
07:33 Much like Demon's Souls, the first iteration
07:40 of Shadow of the Colossus was great on PlayStation 2
07:42 and on PlayStation 3.
07:43 Thing is that those controls were rather cumbersome.
07:46 Once again, Bluepoint Games swoops in to save the day.
07:48 [GROWLING]
07:51 The PlayStation 4 version refined the controls
07:58 and even presented a better control scheme that lined up
08:00 with modern action games at the time.
08:02 Taking advantage of the PS4's visual fidelity
08:04 was already what sold us.
08:06 Fixing a major design problem?
08:08 Well worth the asking price.
08:09 [MUSIC PLAYING]

08:32 Number one, Final Fantasy VII Remake.
08:34 [MUSIC PLAYING]
08:37 For years, many of us were worried about this game.
08:46 How do you possibly remake a game as beautiful as Final
08:49 Fantasy VII without messing up one iota of its DNA?
08:52 How do you even approach that and make it playable for both
08:54 newbies and veterans?
08:56 Well, you fix what was broken, retell the story
08:58 in a more cohesive way, have your composers
09:00 rearrange the music to create pieces
09:02 more refined than the original.
09:04 [MUSIC PLAYING]
09:06 So?
09:11 In other words, you graduate from a small orchestra
09:13 to a grand symphony of stellar combat, brilliant storytelling,
09:16 and do it all with a fun attitude
09:17 and a smile on your face.
09:19 Please make sure you play Final Fantasy VII Remake
09:21 before you go jumping into Rebirth.
09:23 There's still so much to be done.
