00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are revisiting some classics and asking ourselves, why did
00:11you stop classic?
00:12Why did you leave us wanting more?
00:14These are 20 old gen franchises that need a new game.
00:18Before we continue, we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:22the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:26Dino Crisis
00:27Dino Crisis was phenomenal, Dino Crisis 2 was great, Dino Crisis 3 may well have killed
00:44the franchise and I'll never forgive it.
00:46It was actually fun, but I'm painting a narrative for entertainment.
00:49Developed by the creators of the original Resident Evil, the franchise was among the
00:53few games that featured dinosaurs, and you know how everything is zombies nowadays?
00:57Back then, dinosaurs were the shit.
01:00As long as we don't do dinosaurs in space, a new game with today's standard of development
01:03would be wild.
01:16Nintendogs You remember back in 2005 when every second
01:33girl in your class was playing Nintendogs on their DS?
01:36What the hell happened to that franchise?
01:38The game allowed players to experience the joys of pet ownership by simulating activities
01:42like playing with, feeding, bathing and walking a virtual dog.
01:45It also featured wireless connectivity, enabling players to interact with each other's pets.
01:50The series was expanded with the 3DS launch titled Nintendogs Plus Cats, and there's been
01:55no new entry since 2011.
01:57Imagine what they could do with the Nintendo Switch, your actual dog could probably play
02:01it.
02:02The future is now.
02:07The Secret of Monkey Island In the early 90s, graphic adventure games
02:11were immensely popular, with LucasArts arguably leading the genre.
02:15Among their string of high-quality hits, The Secret of Monkey Island and its sequels
02:19stood out as perhaps the best and most beloved.
02:22Known for its challenging puzzles and genuinely funny humor, the series became an industry
02:27icon.
02:28However, as gaming shifted towards 3D titles focused on first-person shooters and action
02:31games, the popularity of graphic adventures waned.
02:35But look at Telltale with their popularity and recent closure.
02:38There is a hole in the market for 90s kids who'd like to see the return of this beloved
02:42series.
02:43Golden Sun It's shocking just how many people didn't
02:54play this beautiful gem of a game, because for me personally, Golden Sun rivals the majority
02:58of the Final Fantasy franchise.
03:00Unfortunately, it was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, relegating it to handheld
03:05and limiting its availability.
03:07Upon its debut, the game received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its impressive
03:11graphics, engaging gameplay, and diverse settings.
03:14It was doing some really cool things, with some great gameplay concepts that could easily
03:19be adapted to a 3D open world similar to Breath of the Wild.
03:27Gex Despite rarely receiving much critical acclaim,
03:35the Gex series became a fan favorite following its debut in 1994.
03:39The third installment, Gex 3 Deep Cover Gecko, sold over 6 million copies across various
03:44platforms.
03:45However, as the new millennium approached, the series, along with other cartoonish animal
03:48mascots, were largely sidelined by most publishers, sent to the graveyard with characters like
03:53Rayman, Croc, and Sly Cooper.
03:56A series return is in order, and I'm not talking about the Gex Trilogy remake.
04:00We need a brand new game.
04:02Blood Omen Legacy of Kain
04:14Some games just seem obvious for a new installment, but the concepts and themes that some games
04:18created in their heyday, we can only imagine what they could do today.
04:22And Legacy of Kain is one of these games.
04:25This blood-soaked gothic vampire series was a major hit on the original PlayStation.
04:29Blood Omen Legacy of Kain, and its sequel, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, were brilliantly
04:33inventive open-world action-adventure games that blended multiple genres.
04:38While three more titles followed, they didn't quite capture the quality and creativity of
04:41the originals.
04:42But that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying, cowards.
04:59Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
05:09How are we living in an era with hyper-advanced ray-tracing graphics and yet no new Splinter
05:13Cell game?
05:14And while we're at it, who's Tom Clancy?
05:16I'm already off topic.
05:17Growing up with Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell felt like we were in the golden age of
05:20gaming, and Splinter Cell took things to a new level with their excellent use of light,
05:25sound, and precise movement through hostile environments.
05:28We haven't seen a new entry since 2013, and not for lack of trying, we've had loads of
05:33almost Splinter Cell games being cancelled.
05:36Just make it happen!
05:45Metal Gear Solid
05:46Now, obviously, Metal Gear Solid did have the final canon entry only in 2015, not including
05:50the terrible Metal Gear Survive, but that's still 9 years, and Metal Gear Solid 5 took
05:55the game in a different direction.
05:57With a remake of the best game in the series on the way, fans are craving a new entry in
06:01this classic series that takes us back to the most beloved characters in the series.
06:05After the 5th game's release, creator Hideo Kojima left Konami and established his own
06:09studio, shifting his focus to Death Stranding.
06:12But Kojima, I say this with peace and love, and I think everyone would have my back, f***
06:17Death Stranding.
06:18I actually love Death Stranding, I just want Metal Gear back.
06:21Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
06:23A frustrating part of the demise of the Sly Cooper franchise is that it could have ended
06:38on a high note after the 3rd entry, and instead Sly Cooper Thieves in Time ended on a heartbreaking
06:43cliffhanger with Sly trapped in the timeline, stuck in ancient Egypt.
06:47Now we don't just demand a new entry because we missed the series, but because we need
06:51to know what happens.
06:52We've seen the series revamped on the PS3 when Thieves in Time picked up after the PS2
06:57trilogy and introduced time-travelling heists involving Sly's ancestors, and successfully
07:01updated the formula while remaining faithful to its origins, so we know they're ready to
07:06adapt again.
07:07Do it!
07:08Minecraft
07:09When Notch first launched Minecraft in 2009, he likely never imagined it would become the
07:31best-selling video game of all time.
07:33Its simple design has made it easy to port across multiple console generations, while
07:37the PC version has consistently received updates and improvements to enhance gameplay.
07:41But what if we started on something fresh?
07:43Something new?
07:44Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce the concept of Minecraft 2.
07:48Admittedly, expansion and add-ons are probably as far as this game will ever go, and for
07:52good reason.
07:53Why improve upon perfection?
07:54But we have seen established IPs with games that could just be built on and improved release
07:58sequels that moved their attention, with great success.
08:02Dead Rising
08:22Some franchises on this list seem like they never had the chance to grow into something
08:25big.
08:26Then there's Dead Rising, which feels like it's been given multiple chances, but has
08:29never taken off the way you'd expect a game about slaughtering thousands of zombies to.
08:34Aside from the hordes of zombies and the ability to kill them with anything at hand, the gameplay
08:38has shifted significantly between titles, making it tough to build a dedicated fanbase.
08:43If I could offer Capcom advice, it would be to revisit the first game's formula and give
08:47it another shot, but this time fully embrace the rigid and challenging structure of Dead
08:51Rising 1.
08:53Embrace what makes you different.
08:54That's why I haven't fixed my webbed toes.
09:01Mother
09:02Like F-Zero, modern gamers likely know the Mother slash Earthbound series best through
09:06the Super Smash Bros franchise.
09:08The most iconic entry is the 1994 SNES title Earthbound, which has remained a classic in
09:13the RPG genre.
09:14However, its sequel Mother 3 never saw a Western release, despite decades of fan demand.
09:20While Nintendo might eventually add Mother 3 to their Nintendo Switch Online library,
09:25a new game in the series seems unlikely, even though the demand is clearly there.
09:30Fans even made their own sequel titled Mother 4, which was later renamed due to copyright
09:34issues.
09:35Oops.
09:36Silent Hill
09:37Okay, I'll admit it, this entry was going on the list regardless of what the general
09:53public think, because I personally believe Silent Hill could be a series dying for a
09:58Resident Evil style reinvigoration.
10:00I'm just lucky the general horror community feels the same.
10:03Silent Hill brought horror games into a more serious and psychological realm, a massive
10:08chunk of today's horror games have Silent Hill to thank.
10:11The first three games were outstanding, and while I appreciated the new direction in the
10:15fourth installment, the series went downhill afterwards, including a lackluster HD remaster
10:20of Silent Hill 2 and 3.
10:22What makes the absence of a Silent Hill reboot especially painful is that we saw a glimpse
10:27of its potential with PT, which was a teaser for a new installment called Silent Hills,
10:32which was inevitably cancelled.
10:40Starcraft
10:41Blizzard's Starcraft is one of the greatest real-time strategy games ever made, featuring
10:46an epic battle for interstellar dominance between humans and various alien species.
10:50Though the sequel took over a decade to arrive, it was well worth the wait with some strong
10:55expansions following.
10:56Since the 2017 remaster of the original, we know there's an audience sitting on the edge
11:00of their seats for Starcraft 3, so Blizzard, cut the shit and make it happen.
11:07Final Fantasy Tactics
11:08Ain't nobody gonna stop Square Enix from pumping out a new Final Fantasy title every few years
11:20because the audience is strong.
11:22One standout in the Final Fantasy series is Final Fantasy Tactics, released for the Playstation
11:26in 1997.
11:28Unlike other entries in the franchise, Final Fantasy Tactics featured a much more complex
11:32combat system, incorporating a three-dimensional isometric battlefield for strategic movement
11:37during battles.
11:38We were lucky enough to get a second Tactics entry in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, which
11:42many played and loved.
11:45This formula has proven itself with the fans and deserves to be revisited, arguably on
11:49the Nintendo Switch.
11:58Banjo-Kazooie
12:04Adding Banjo and Kazooie to Super Smash Bros Ultimate was an obvious choice, but I'm always
12:08cautious about companies reviving beloved franchises without genuine commitment.
12:13It's been 16 years since the last Banjo-Kazooie game, and even that wasn't the platformer fans
12:18have been craving since Banjo-Tooie in 2000.
12:20While the company is currently focused on Sea of Thieves, can I offer them an alternative?
12:26This series.
12:27Or Conker, in fact.
12:28Revisit any of your 90s classics, you dummies.
12:31Left 4 Dead
12:32Technically, Valve has continued to update Left 4 Dead 2 here and there, often with help
12:49from fans, but I still consider the franchise essentially dead.
12:53However, this game teaches us one very important fact.
12:56Even after things die, they can come back.
12:59Whether you were mowing down zombie hordes with friends or hunting players, the experience
13:03was a blast.
13:04It was the quintessential co-op experience for a good chunk of time, and a third entry
13:09crafted carefully could be as good a co-op experience as any.
13:21Chrono Trigger
13:23Chrono Trigger is widely considered one of the greatest JRPGs ever, having debuted on
13:27the SNES in 1995.
13:29It was followed by a sequel, Chrono Cross, for the PlayStation 1, but Square hasn't developed
13:34any new titles in this series since.
13:36Unfortunately, it seems there's little hope for new Chrono Trigger content, though many
13:40fans might prefer it that way.
13:41Given its status as one of the greatest games ever made, it's a tough legacy to match.
13:46That being said, come on.
13:50Portal
13:51Hello, and again, welcome to the Aperture Science Computer Aided Admission Center.
13:5713 years.
13:59We haven't seen a new entry for this title in over 13 years, and two entries just don't
14:03feel right.
14:04Portal 1 set up the series for success by introducing a game style that was innovative
14:08and addictive, and Portal 2 fleshed out the world, and the story gave us a wide array
14:13of characters who made the world feel even cooler.
14:16But a third entry?
14:17A prequel that shows the development of Aperture Science?
14:20There are options for this game to be brought to new fans, and some are even praying for
14:24a Half-Life Alyx style take, with a VR entry.
14:39Half-Life
14:50Speak of the devil, is there any more requested third entry in gaming history than Half-Life
14:593?
15:00I'll wait.
15:02The third installment in the franchise has become the epitome of gaming patience, seemingly
15:06in development since the release of Half-Life 2 Episode 2 in 2007.
15:10During this time, Valve has remained tight-lipped about the sequel, leaving it unclear whether
15:14the company is actively working on it.
15:17With no new announcements to the contrary, it seems players will have to wait even longer
15:21to see the conclusion of Gordon Freeman's story, and with the multiverse style ending
15:25of the largely inaccessible Half-Life Alyx, we can only imagine how cool this game is
15:29going to be.
