00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 Nintendo franchises that were
00:14surprisingly resurrected thanks to the Switch.
00:23Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:27Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:32Luigi's Mansion Series
00:43This may sound hard to believe now, but Luigi didn't get much attention outside of being
00:48the token Player 2 character.
00:50Even after the praise the original Luigi's Mansion received at launch, and the years
00:54that followed, it took well over a decade for us to get the sequel, Luigi's Mansion
00:59Dark Moon.
01:06The second game was less than stellar, and the 2018 remake of the first game was widely
01:11scrutinized for its gyro controls.
01:14Nintendo would give Luigi one more shot with Luigi's Mansion 3 six years after the sequel,
01:20and good lord, was it a turnaround.
01:23Luigi's Mansion 3 sold gangbusters for several years, selling roughly 13 million copies within
01:30less than four years.
01:32If the HD remaster of Dark Moon is anything to go off of, Nintendo must have renewed interest
01:37in the series.
01:38Although, there's no telling now when we might see Luigi's Mansion 4 or a remaster
01:43of the original game.
01:56Pikmin Series
02:04The Pikmin series had a rocky dormancy throughout the 2010s.
02:08Even though Pikmin 3 launched with little fanfare on the ill-fated Wii U in 2013, Shigeru
02:13Miyamoto came out two years afterwards to announce Pikmin 4 was nearing completion.
02:19Then, silence.
02:21The most we saw of the IP was a spinoff on 3DS that few bothered to play, as well as
02:26a Pokemon Go clone in Pikmin Bloom, and a switch port of Pikmin 3.
02:32At this point, many believed Pikmin 4 might have been cancelled, until it miraculously
02:37resurfaced in 2023.
02:46Within the span of nine months, Pikmin's long-awaited fourth game managed to sell three
02:51and a half million copies, and it would become the best-selling title in the entire franchise.
02:56Perhaps this means we won't have to wait too long for a fifth entry?
03:07Mario & Luigi Series
03:18The Mario & Luigi games once saw resounding success, starting with Superstar Saga on the
03:23Game Boy Advance and continuing with DS Sequel's Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story.
03:30Once we hit the 3DS years, it all went downhill.
03:33Dream Team failed to impress anyone, neither did Paper Jam, and the remakes of Superstar
03:38Saga and Bowser's Inside Story failed in revitalizing the IP, especially since they
03:43came after the Switch was already out.
03:46With revenue tanking, developer AlphaDream was left with no other choice but to file
03:51for bankruptcy and close its doors in 2019.
03:54Fans were distraught, believing that their favorite RPG series was truly dead.
03:59Then, in June 2024, Nintendo made the shocking announcement of a new installment.
04:12At the time of writing, not much is known about Mario & Luigi Brothership, however,
04:17we do know that this will be the first game in the series to be rendered entirely in 3D
04:22and the first in the series to be made for a home console.
04:25Exciting times we're living in!
04:37Another Code Series
04:48While many were too busy playing the many Mario games made for DS, very few ever got
04:54to experience the Another Code games.
04:57Only two games were ever made in this series, and they were both made for the DS, only to
05:01be forgotten and stranded there for the years that followed.
05:05So it was astonishing to see Nintendo and Arc System Works remake both games and bring
05:10their stories forward to Nintendo Switch in 2024.
05:23Not only were controls reworked along with brand new visuals, but Another Code recollection
05:28even rewrote and added scenes to make the story a bit tighter than they were back in
05:33the day.
05:43Endless Ocean Series
05:53Endless Ocean found itself earning the status of cult classic for those who were always
05:58playing their Wii consoles back in the 2000s.
06:01There was something super calming about diving into the ocean and learning about underwater
06:05life.
06:06The soundtrack alone is bound to put you in a zen-like state.
06:09We'd see a sequel in 2010, although that was the last we had seen of it until 2024.
06:24Endless Ocean Luminous revived the IP on Nintendo Switch, and it sadly did not fare well in
06:30the review process.
06:31Critics weren't too pleased with the game's focus on exploration and basic controls and
06:35mechanics.
06:36Well, it was still cool to see Nintendo give one of their forgotten IPs another chance.
06:47Big Brain Academy Series
06:56Much like Endless Ocean and Another Code, Big Brain Academy didn't get much of a chance
07:01to shine after the glory days of the Wii and DS.
07:04We got the original game on DS, the sequel Wii Degree, and then there was a board game
07:10at one point.
07:11But that was all we got, really, so it was surprising to see Nintendo give the IP another
07:16crack 14 years later.
07:25Big Brain Academy Brain vs. Brain brought the series to Switch with a handful of minigames
07:30both old and new, and the focus on multiplayer led to some fun nights with friends to see
07:35who was the smartiest.
07:37Er, smarter-est.
07:38I guess we need to go train our brains some more.
07:48Pokemon Snap Series
08:00Once upon a time, Pokemon Snap was nothing more than an N64 game only us millennials
08:05would cherish.
08:06Look, we couldn't help it.
08:08There was something wondrous about riding through environments and seeing Pokemon in
08:12their natural habitats instead of fighting.
08:15And after decades of wishing for a sequel, we eventually thought that day would never
08:19come.
08:20Imagine how pleasantly shocked we were when New Pokemon Snap dropped in 2021, and it was
08:26vastly bigger than the original game.
08:37You had more locations to explore, more Pokemon to photograph, more items to use that could
08:42help you discover new Pokemon, more secret routes.
08:45It was kind of an overload of improvements, but we loved it regardless.
08:56The Wars Series
09:06This series has undergone many different names, starting with Famicom Wars, then Game Boy
09:11Wars before finally becoming Advance Wars on GBA and Battalion Wars on GameCube.
09:18This turn-based strategy series saw continuous success until Nintendo suddenly stopped making
09:23them after Days of Ruin on DS.
09:26We didn't even get a new game for the 3DS.
09:34Thankfully, Nintendo hired WayForward to remake the first two Advance War games, launching
09:42OnePlus 2 Reboot Camp in 2023.
09:46Not much has been said about the sales, but longtime fans were thrilled to be able to
09:50play this long-forgotten series in some capacity, and it even came with multiplayer.
10:02Metroid Series
10:10Other M was such a disaster in how it handled Samus as a character that it very well killed
10:15the franchise for some time.
10:17Federation Force really didn't help the situation either.
10:20The awful spinoff notwithstanding, we went well over a decade before we finally got a
10:25brand new Metroid game.
10:27We got a remake, a new game.
10:36Metroid Dread was the revival we were so desperate to see.
10:40This was what everybody knew and loved about the franchise, a 2D action platformer filled
10:46with secret areas and deadly enemies to fight.
10:50Samus was back in full force, and a year and a half after Dread launched, we got a remaster
10:57of Metroid Prime.
10:58In other words, the franchise is back and bigger than it ever has been.
11:14The Famicom Detective Club Series
11:21The Famicom Detective Club Series is one of Nintendo's older and most obscure IPs.
11:27The reason because of its obscurity can be easily pointed to the fact that the series
11:31has only ever had two games, both having only gotten remakes in 2021 for the Switch.
11:37So when the trailer for Emeo the Smiling Man suddenly appeared on Nintendo's YouTube
11:41channel, many were confused yet intrigued.
11:45An M-rated horror game from Nintendo?
11:48Excuse me?
11:58Turns out Nintendo is ready to tell another chilling and horrifying tale in the Famicom
12:03Detective Club Series.
12:05Emeo will be the first new title in the franchise in 35 years, and it launches on August 29,
12:132024.
12:14The wait is not long.
12:24Is there a dormant IP you would like to see Nintendo revisit?
12:27Me personally, where is Rhythm Heaven?
12:31Where has that been all these years?
12:33Let us know down in the comments below, and don't forget to subscribe to Mojo Plays
