पेरिस ओलंपिक में कुश्ती के 50 किलो वर्ग के फाइनल में 150 ग्राम ज्यादा होने पर विनेश फोगाट को अयोग्य घोषित कर दिया गया। जैसे ही विनेश फोगाट को इस खबर का पता चला तो वह बेहोश हो गईं। बताया जा रहा है कि डिहाइड्रेशन के चलते विनेश की तबीयत बिगड़ गई। जिसके बाद उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती करवाया गया। इस मामले को लेकर IOA की अध्यक्ष पीटी उषा ने प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए कहा कि टीम के डॉक्टर विनेश का वजन कम करने की कोशिश में लगे रहे। किसी भी खिलाड़ी के लिए ट्रेनिंग के बाद मैच के लिए एकदम से वजन बढ़ाना काफी मुश्किल होता है। ये एक कैलकुलेटेड प्रक्रिया है। इसमें कई बार चूंक होने की संभावना रहती है।

00:05from weight, from weight loss.
00:07Males are different from females.
00:08Age makes a difference.
00:09All this makes a difference.
00:11What's also important to remember is that
00:13usually you have a normal or a natural weight
00:16and that's your normal natural weight
00:18and you can cut that down.
00:19And typically till February of 24
00:24she was participating in the 53 kilogram weight.
00:27So normally an athlete or a wrestler like her
00:31will be about 55-56 and will go to the 53 weight
00:34and that's the normal sort of process.
00:36And she was very comfortable with that process
00:38but from February because that category
00:41had already been occupied
00:43and as you know if only one wrestler from a country
00:46can go into one weight category.
00:48So since that weight category was already taken
00:51by another wrestler, she had two options.
00:53Either she cuts her weight down tremendously
00:55and tries to go to the 50 category
00:57or she goes a weight up.
00:59But if she goes a weight up
01:00she's going to be wrestling with much stronger athletes
01:04and she felt that that would be of no point
01:06because she's not going to be successful there.
01:08So after considering everything
01:09and she took quite a lot of time to decide
01:11which would be the best option for her.
01:13She and her team took the call
01:15that they're going to go for the 50 kilogram weight category
01:18and I think it was a good decision
01:20because as you can see she beat the reigning champion
01:24in that first round
01:25and she was able to achieve that.
01:27Now since February that she's been participating
01:30in this 50 kilogram weight category
01:33this of course happens.
01:34Now athletes when they're training
01:37you don't want to keep them at 50
01:39because if they're below their natural weight
01:41there's a high chance of injuries taking place.
01:43So this is a sport with a lot of injuries
01:45and you have to really fine tune and balance it.
01:48So your weight is slightly higher when you're training
01:50but when the process of competition comes
01:53then you drop your weight
01:54and you drop your weight
01:55and it's relatively easier to do it for that first weigh-in
01:58because you have enough time for that.
02:00But it depends also on how your bouts go on that first day.
02:04If you had just one bout
02:06then it would have been no problem at all
02:08because then you have enough time to recover.
02:10But if you have had to go through three bouts
02:13and each of those bouts is difficult
02:15and you have to hydrate yourself
02:16otherwise you're going to collapse out there
02:18then you're going to have to do everything that you can do
02:20to participate well that day
02:22and then take the next challenge.
