00:00Millions of House of the Dragon fans eagerly tuned in Sunday for the Season 2 finale,
00:05The Queen Who Ever Was, and a lot of them were royally disappointed,
00:09and they're not holding back online. One fan on X even dubbed it the season that never was.
00:14This is understandable, as Season 2 of the massively popular, critically acclaimed spinoff
00:19and prequel of Game of Thrones was pretty uneventful, especially the poorly-paced final chapter.
00:24To die will be a kind of relief.
00:28After Season 1 ended with a shocking sequence — the death of Lucerys Velaryon at the hands of his
00:34own uncle, Aemond Targaryen — it sure felt like war was inevitable in Season 2. Unfortunately,
00:39aside from the battle at Rook's Rest, which claims the life of Rhaenys Targaryen and
00:44grievously injures King Aegon, there's not a whole lot of action, as fans pointed out on X.
00:49Some simply expressed shock and indignation over the lackluster episode, with one viewer posting,
00:54Surely there is more episode in the back. Another fan agreed, writing,
00:59House of the Dragon really wasted a whole season with filler episodes.
01:02One viewer was clearly fed up, posting,
01:05I may have just witnessed the absolute worst season finale for a TV show.
01:10That is a bleak philosophy.
01:12Another called the episode, by far, one of the most uneventful season finales they've seen in
01:16a while, adding,
01:18This entire season was one long-ass filler episode,
01:20because we could have made it to this exact same point in the story by Episode 4.
01:25One viewer felt like they could have done without the season as a whole, posting,
01:28I could have skipped that entire season of House of the Dragon and been perfectly up to speed.
01:32What a boring eight episodes that was.
01:35Another watcher pointed out that on top of everything else,
01:37fans will have to wait a very long time for the next installment.
01:41Wow, we just watched a 70-minute trailer for a season that will come in two years.
01:46Another disappointed viewer pointed out that the buildup just went nowhere, writing,
01:50Bro, how are you going to make an entire season of House of the Dragon leading up to an epic
01:54battle in the season finale, only for the season finale to build more setup with no battle?
01:59Overall, this was a pretty popular sentiment, as another disgruntled fan wrote,
02:03I'm tired of things being put into motion. Be in motion.
02:07Fans on Reddit didn't really like the episode either, as it turns out. In a thread titled,
02:11That was… bad, right? One Redditor wrote,
02:14Woof, what a letdown. Why did they end it here? It's a two-year wait,
02:18and the buildup itself was drawn out and boring.
02:20Another Redditor referred to their copy of George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood,
02:24the book the show is based on, and made a jarring discovery, writing,
02:28This season started on page 412 and ended about two-thirds of the way through page 445,
02:34just barely over 30 pages for a whole season.
02:37Ultimately, aside from the battle at Rook's Rest, fans will have to wait quite a while to see more
02:42Fire & Blood on House of the Dragon, especially because the Season 2 finale directly sets up
02:47two major events from the book, the Battle of the Gullet and the fall of King's Landing.
02:51In a fascinating twist, though, the show does add something new to the latter,
02:54by having Alicent Hightower secretly visit her stepdaughter and former close friend
02:59Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, begging for an end to the family's devastating civil war.
03:03Rhaenyra says it can only end if Aegon is dead, and Alicent amazingly agrees,
03:08and this will almost certainly be a huge part of whatever happens in Season 3.
03:12At the end of the day, fans have a right to feel frustrated over the fact that Season 2
03:16of House of the Dragon was conspicuously light on action and ended in a pretty abrupt manner,
03:21and it'll be a long wait until they can see what happens next.
03:24Over on X, one user summed it up pretty beautifully, simply writing,
03:28That season of House of the Dragon could have been an email.
03:31House of the Dragon is streaming on Max now.
