00:00If you've seen Dave Bautista recently, you may have noticed he's looking a bit… different.
00:05But is that dramatic weight loss a choice, or something much more worrying?
00:10Dave Bautista has debuted a brand new, slimmed-down look over the past few months, and has left
00:14him somewhat unrecognizable both to WWE fans and fans of his movies.
00:20Many fans and critics have wondered if his massive muscle mass loss could be due to something
00:24more worrying than a simple wish to be thinner.
00:26But now, the wrestler-turned-actor has spoken out about those public misconceptions, and
00:31it turns out that his new look is 100 percent his choice.
00:35Bautista has explained in recent interviews that it all has to do with him having bulked
00:39up for another film.
00:40I started trimming down for a particular reason.
00:43One, I started trimming down because I just got fat."
00:45Bautista explained that he had gotten too big for his role in the 2023 M. Night Shyamalan
00:50movie Knock at the Cabin, which eventually led him to decide to lose weight as a result.
00:55Well, I got really big for a role, and it was uncomfortably big."
00:58He added that while he was bigger during his wrestling career, having to quickly bulk up
01:02by eating fast food led to a feeling of real discomfort.
01:06Bautista also explained that M. Night Shyamalan later told him that he wasn't looking for
01:10a powerlifter look out of Bautista in Knock at the Cabin.
01:14He just needed him to be large and bulky.
01:16And I put on an uncomfortable amount of weight, and it took me forever to shed it off."
01:22The slimmer look, it seems, suits his role in the upcoming action-comedy romance The
01:26Killer's Game, and Bautista seems to feel very positive about his change in body type.
01:31Yes, it turns out that the more muscle mass Dave Bautista lost, the happier he was with
01:35his physical presentation, both with how he felt and looked.
01:39He still tends to be the tallest person in the room in many of his films, so anything
01:43that makes him look less like a hulking giant next to his smaller co-stars is helpful for
01:47him as an actor.
01:48Bautista also addressed the negative rumors about his shape due to his debulking, and
01:52denied rumors he has an eating disorder.
01:55They think I'm, like, anorexic, but I'm still just a large human being."
02:00That said, Bautista did say he was basically killing himself to stay that trim, and explained
02:05that the training was no walk in the park.
02:07He notes that he fasts intermittently, has a 2,500-calorie-a-day diet, and eats sparingly,
02:13though he's not starving himself to maintain his newly-trimmed figure.
02:17Aside from his slimmer physique, there's another element of Dave Bautista's appearance
02:21that's changed since Knock at the Cabin.
02:23He's been letting his beard go gray.
02:24"'Cause I've aged and I'm not jacked and I have gray hair and I have a bald head now."
02:28That said, Bautista also explained that most of the people who do recognize him tend to
02:33be wrestling fans.
02:34Why?
02:35He thinks it's because he's so heavily made up in his most famous on-screen roles.
02:39It's clear that Bautista's life changed forever when he entered the acting game, and in a
02:43very positive way.
02:44As for where his career and his look goes from here, that's anyone's guess, but it really
02:48does seem like the sky's the limit.
