02:38She had had a really bad infection in her ears, and she looked really rough.

02:45The owners just didn't have the means to take care of her.
02:47They were like, do you know anybody that would be interested in having her?
02:50And I was like, oh my gosh, yes!
02:51I would so be willing to take her.

02:55She's extremely loving.
02:56You can tell she's grateful that she's not where she was.

03:02She has beat all odds, and she has just been amazing.
03:13When I first got him, he had a lot of pin feathers, which look like little sticks, and

03:29I got him into a warm bath, kind of held him in my lap, and he just melted.
03:35With an older bird especially, they can't quite groom all of those themselves.
03:40You could tell he was wanting to do that for a while.
03:44Reno's original owners had him for 21 years.
03:47They took really good care of him.
03:48It was just the grooming needed a little bit of extra work.
03:52As they became older and less able to care for him, they made the very difficult but
03:56responsible decision to trust me with him.

04:15I have another Quaker parrot named Chucky, who's been in my care for about 8 years.
04:20I wasn't really sure how Reno and Chucky would react to each other, with Chucky being
04:25kept by himself for 8 years, and Reno for 21 years.
04:29Eventually, I introduced them to the same enclosure, and now they share their space
04:33really well.
04:35They hang out together.
04:36They preen each other a little bit.
04:38They're buddies.
04:40Now, he even protects Reno.
04:43I'm petting Reno, and then Chucky's like, ah!

04:47Seeing Chucky do that, it kind of proved to me that they definitely have the kind of bond
04:52that I was hoping they would make.
04:54I think he's just getting a lot more at ease with being a bird, especially with having
04:58a friend that can teach him those things.
05:00Reno is very special to me because I'm his final caretaker, so I feel really dedicated
05:07to making sure that his last years are really filled with fun and friends.

05:27When I first came to Mexico, I wasn't expected to see a dog that was in pain in the street

05:34The doctor told me that I have to decide between fighting for an animal that I just met, or
05:39I need to put her to sleep.
05:42She looked at me like, I want to leave, and I realized that she was still fighting.
05:48It was hard at the beginning because she was very insecure about contact with me.
05:55I just wanted her to know that I was there for her.
06:03I tried to get her a wheelchair, but she hated it all.
06:07I could put her for one hour and she would not move.
06:10She decides that she can't be independent.
06:15She walks perfect without a wheelchair.
06:24Now, she's more confident.
06:26She knows that I'm not going to hurt her.
06:29That's the most important thing that we have to give her.

08:23I got him into a tank, and watching him come out of his shell was so exciting.

08:32I've rescued probably around 80 fish.
08:37I adopt them out to my friends here,
08:39but Bongo, he was just so sweet, and he's more quiet,
08:43and I kind of like that about him.
08:45So that's why I kept him.
