We’re celebrating Black History Month by spotlighting some of our favorite Black pet parents and their pets, like Yves! He even gets in the bath with them. Yves told us how he sees himself in pit bulls, and how he gets his apartment ready for each one!

00:08I see so much of myself in them
00:11because they're so misunderstood and stereotyped
00:13and people see them and they cross the street
00:15and they think that they're one thing
00:17but they're actually the other.

00:23They're just so silly and lovable and goofy.
00:26I'm really excited to be his dad
00:28and I'm excited to have this silly boy.

00:31Yes, she is, sweetheart.
00:32They just want to be loved for it, cared for.

00:36It's with the greatest joy I can introduce you all
00:39to foster number 41.
00:41I got into fostering a decade ago.
00:44I had a pity of my own who unfortunately passed away.
00:47Her name was Princess.
00:49She was the greatest animal companion I've ever had.
00:52It might sound a little dramatic
00:54but I like to get the apartment ready
00:56and prepared before my child animal guest
01:00comes into my home.
01:01Since she passed, it's been hard for me
01:04to personally have my own dog.
01:07That bed is made.
01:09Ready for some pity cuddles.
01:10And so fostering was introduced to me
01:13and I only foster bully breeds.
01:16Hey, buddy.
01:17We're walking in the rain together for our first time.
01:20It's a feat, buddy, I promise, come on.
01:22It's such a weird thing you have to do.
01:24You develop this relationship
01:26and this bond.
01:27So I've been telling Banshee baby over here
01:30that there's treats upstairs.
01:33I'm gonna try to use that method today
01:34to get him up the stairs.
01:36They become a part of your life.
01:38You're doing it, buddy.
01:41It's such a good job.
01:42And then out of nowhere, a day comes along
01:45where someone else sees exactly what you see
01:48and you have to let them go.
01:51There he goes.
01:53Oh, I'm so proud of him.
01:54And then I find myself in the same situation again
01:57with a new rescue.
02:01I just wanna get pets out of the shelter
02:03more than anything.
02:04Hey, girl.
02:05I do whatever I can to advocate for them
02:07in every way possible
02:08because they deserve the loudest voices possible
02:11speaking on their behalf.
