00:07But before that, let's watch this first.
00:12Family planning is an important aspect of the life of every family and society.
00:18And in the Philippines, where population growth is a primary issue,
00:24the proper planning of the family can lead to a big change in the quality of life of every Filipino.
00:32The concept of family planning is not only based on giving options for ways of contraception,
00:40but also on expanding the knowledge of the public about the right time for having children
00:47and improving the health and well-being of every family.
00:52In addition, every August, we celebrate Family Planning Month in the Philippines.
01:00This month also gives importance to the proper planning of the family
01:05and its role in the prosperity of a country.
01:09By helping and having the right knowledge,
01:13we can ensure a brighter future for our children and future generations.
01:22So let's find out what are the medicines or ways for the proper planning of the family here in SainiDoc.
01:34Good morning to all of you and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
01:46Good morning to all of you.
01:49Good morning, Doc. Let's start.
01:51What is the purpose of Family Planning Month?
01:55And what is the theme of this year?
01:58This year, our theme is,
02:03Panalo ang Pamilyang Planado, Tara, Usap Tayo sa Family Planning.
02:08So every Filipino can talk and make decisions about family planning.
02:14It is a right to know the right and unbiased information about modern family planning methods
02:20from healthcare providers that can help them decide
02:24what is the best way for their needs and preferences.
02:29And there is a modern way for all of us.
02:34For our fellow Filipinos, what are the ways of family planning?
02:39We have two types, natural and artificial.
02:45But there are also modern methods.
02:47Natural family planning is based on our rules.
02:51What we are using now is the standardized method.
02:54So that is the seven days before and after the first day of the rules.
02:59Let's remember, it's not after the rules because that's what other people will know.
03:03It's different.
03:05They think that after the rules, they can avoid pregnancy.
03:09There are also condoms, pills, injectables,
03:15implants, IODs, and permanent methods like ligation and vasectomy.
03:25Doc, what are the tips we can give or what a spouse should do
03:32if they want to know the right family planning method for them?
03:38Actually, family planning is not just for spouses.
03:41It's for those who are together or even if you are a single parent.
03:45These are the considerations you should consider
03:47so that you can choose what's best for you.
03:49You need to know if you want spacing or limiting pregnancy,
03:53if you want to give it two or three years,
03:56or you really don't want to give birth.
03:58Effectiveness is also a consideration
04:02and if the rules are regular,
04:04if you want to have hormones or not,
04:06if it's short-term or long-term,
04:08and if the method you want to choose,
04:11you can start or stop it without going to the health provider.
04:17If you want privacy,
04:19you may not know that other people or partners are using family planning.
04:24And of course, for our single countrymen,
04:28there is also sexually transmitted infection prevention.
04:32Doctor, you mentioned contraceptives earlier,
04:36but what are the mass or budget-friendly
04:40and safe to use by the public?
04:44Actually, all of our family planning methods
04:47are free in our health centers,
04:49in our government hospitals.
04:52It depends on each patient.
04:54All of them are effective and safe for our patients.
04:57You just need to know the preference
04:59and you should talk to our health care providers
05:03about the needs of each person.
05:07Doc, Audrey, not all people favor family planning,
05:10but we want to ask you,
05:12what are the common misconceptions about family planning
05:16and how can we avoid it?
05:20First of all, for newborns.
05:23They think that if you have a baby,
05:25you won't be pregnant anymore.
05:27There are three requirements
05:29for having an effective family planning.
05:33First of all,
05:35you should be fully breastfeeding.
05:38Your baby is not even 6 months old yet
05:40and you should not be regulating it yet.
05:42That is very important.
05:44Then, another misconception is
05:46the calendar or standard days,
05:48the control that they say,
05:51after the regulation,
05:53it will not be counted.
05:55But actually, the 7 days before and after
05:57that people know,
05:59it should be used on the first day of the regulation.
06:01Then, your regulation should be regular.
06:03Then, the other one,
06:05because we have contraceptives
06:07that you don't regulate normally,
06:09they think that you are collecting blood
06:11inside the uterus.
06:13But that is not true
06:15because the lining of the uterus
06:17is not just getting thicker.
06:20It's not just the pills
06:22that cause the thickening.
06:24They also say that
06:26the hormones cause cancer.
06:28But that is not true
06:30because our hormonal contraceptives
06:32have protection against cancer
06:34in the uterus
06:36and ovaries.
06:38The other one,
06:40especially for men,
06:42they think that it's a vasectomy.
06:44It's like for dogs,
06:46they cut the balls,
06:48they cut the tube
06:50so that the balls
06:52won't have a ball.
06:54And the other one,
06:56they say that ligation and vasectomy
06:58are 100% effective.
07:00There is only one way
07:02that is 100% effective
07:04and that is abstinence
07:06or no sex.
07:08If you can't do that,
07:10there are ways in family planning.
07:12Doctor Joshua,
07:14there are women who
07:16don't know how to use pills
07:18because there are
07:20fake news and misconceptions.
07:22Doctor,
07:24how many years can women
07:26take contraceptive pills?
07:28What is the
07:30age range that women can take?
07:32As early as
07:3415 years old.
07:36As early as 15 years old.
07:38As early as 15 years old.
07:40As early as 15 years old.
07:42But there should be consent
07:44from the parents.
07:46It depends
07:48on the woman.
07:50If you have a rule,
07:52you can take contraceptive pills.
07:54As early as 12 years old
07:56or 10 years old,
07:58you can take contraceptive pills
08:00because they have a rule.
08:02It's very important
08:04if you are in a relationship
08:06and you don't want to take contraceptive pills,
08:08consult your healthcare provider
08:10with regards to family planning.
08:12Doctor,
08:14about contraceptives,
08:16is it better
08:18to consult a doctor
08:20than to buy it over-the-counter
08:22and listen to
08:24your friends?
08:26Because
08:28sometimes,
08:30for me,
08:32it might not be good for a woman.
08:34You can use it
08:36because it's good for me,
08:38but it depends on your lifestyle
08:40as a mother,
08:42or as a professional woman
08:44who is still studying.
08:46There are different needs.
08:48It's better to go to a health center
08:50or a hospital or a clinic
08:52to talk
08:54together with your
08:56healthcare provider
08:58about what's best for you.
09:00Because it's August,
09:02Family Planning Month,

09:06can be done
