Paalam outpoints Irish foe to secure spot in quarterfinals

Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam advances to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics men's 57kg class after outpointing Irish Jude Gallagher in the round of 16 at the North Paris Arena on July 31, 2024 (Manila time). Gallagher made a good account of himself in his Olympic debut but Paalam's smarts and experience stood out, as the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist gained the scores of four 29-28s and one 30-27. The 26-year-old Paalam, who earned a bye in the round of 32 just like the 22-year-old Gallagher, is now one win away from securing a medal in Paris.
