Obiena sees better chances of podium finish in Paris Olympics  Filipino pole vault ace Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena believes he has better chances of making the podium in the Paris Olympics in 2024 compared to the Tokyo Games in 2021. Obiena, who struck gold in the 19th Asian Games, made this known to media in Makati on Sunday evening, Oct. 8, 2023. As of October, Obiena is ranked 2nd in men's pole vault. 00:34 EJ, you mentioned the last time, pressure is privilege.

00:38 How do you view this, your expectations now, for you going into Paris?

00:44 I don't think there's more expectation to be in Paris than it was in the Asian Games.

00:51 Asian Games, where all you guys were writing, "Oh, this is a huge goal."

00:56 I think that was heavy.

00:58 But as I said, it's a long way to go.

01:02 I truly have been bulleted by the test of time.

01:07 EJ, was there a moment that you doubted that you would get the gold in the Asian Games?

01:12 You said you were thankful that you have not cracked under the pressure.

01:15 Was there a moment like that?

01:17 Doubts? I think going in, there were not much doubts.

01:22 Of course, there was a reality that if I make a mistake, it's going to be a big one.

01:26 When I missed a 75% attempt, I was a little bit worried about that.

01:30 I was like, "Damn, is this it?"

01:34 But I've learned how to control it and manage.

01:37 I'm a genius.
