House Of The Dragon Season 2 Episode 8 Finale Trailer Breakdown and Game Of Thrones Easter Eggs Fun TImes
Transcript
00:00The dragons dance, and men are like dust under their feet.
00:08We must strike while we have the advantage.
00:13The Prince Regent is angry. There's no telling what he will do.
00:16We march now toward our annihilation.
00:22I have entrusted you with a power only few have known.
00:25Pretenders raise new riders against us.
00:27I need you to fly with Dreamfire to battle.
00:30No one answer outrage without rage.
00:33You wish to rule the Seven Kingdoms, but you reign ruin and death.
00:37While you have mustered an army, Rhaenyra has faltered.
00:41There will be no mercy!
00:45For every one of us who falls!
00:49A hundred of them!
00:53Welcome back everyone, it's Charlie.
00:55This is my House of the Dragons season 2 episode 8 finale trailer video.
00:59That's right, last episode.
01:01They are shorting us two episodes, still a little salty about that.
01:04But there's a bunch of Easter eggs here, so we'll break it all down.
01:07If you're brand new to the channel, be sure to subscribe to get all the episodes.
01:10After the finale actually airs and I do my full video for that,
01:13I'll start doing House of the Dragons season 3 videos.
01:15Because we'll have a pretty good idea of how they're gonna plot out season 3 and season 4.
01:19Now that we've already made it through so much of the show.
01:21And we've seen how much stuff they cover each season.
01:24There have been a lot of book changes in some of the plots that we'll see culminated in episode 8.
01:28Particularly with the Dragon Seed characters.
01:30Who becomes Dragon Seed? Who's claiming which dragon?
01:33Even though there's not that much book material, they are still cutting out some book characters.
01:37So I'll try to explain that as we go along through the episode and through this trailer.
01:40Just starting at the beginning of the footage, they start with the Kristen Cole voiceover.
01:44He's with the Green Army marching from the east to Harrenhal.
01:48And they have Jason Lannister, the Lannister army, marching from the westerlands, massing on Harrenhal.
01:53Hoping to catch Daemon from two sides at the same time.
01:55Making him fight a war on two different fronts.
01:58There's also Ormond Hightower, Lord of House Hightower right now.
02:01He's Otto Hightower's older brother. We saw him during season 1.
02:04He's coming from the south, but the small council explained that he's having problems with the Beesburys
02:09and a couple other allies of theirs who want revenge for the death of Lord Beesbury.
02:13Who was killed by Kristen Cole during season 1 episode 9.
02:16Justice for Beesbury.
02:18Even though we love to rag on Kristen Cole because he's such a terrible person.
02:22Like he is a complete trash bag.
02:24His opening voiceover in the trailer here sounds kind of poetic.
02:27Like it's taken directly from the book that this is adapting.
02:30When he says the dragons are dancing, you actually see Rhaenyra and Myseria staring out over the ledge there.
02:35Like they tend to do. They've been doing this almost every single episode.
02:38Staring at a couple of dragons dancing, flying around the sky together.
02:42I can't quite pick out which dragons.
02:44This might be Seasmoke and Cyrax just because they go to Harrenhal later in the trailer.
02:48One of them might be Silverwing just because of the dragon seeds.
02:51They don't look that big though and Silverwing and Vermithor are older and thus much much bigger.
02:56The entire conflict that we're covering on the show is referred to as the dance of the dragons.
03:00The Targaryen civil war in the books.
03:03Like the blood of the dragon as they refer to Targaryens in the family.
03:06Fighting with each other, dancing with each other.
03:09Dragons dancing in the sky, dragons dancing on the ground so to speak.
03:13Then we see the Lannister army still on the march.
03:16Then a lot of you will actually perk up. A lot have been asking about the Starks.
03:19When is Craig and Stark coming back into the story?
03:21What's going on with Hal Stark? We haven't seen them since the first episode.
03:24These are meant to be the greybeards of Hal Stark.
03:27The Craig and Stark promised to Jace going through the twins, making the fast route so they don't have to go the long way around.
03:33Thank you very much Jace. He's one of the few people on team black that seems like they know how to negotiate.
03:38Daemon did finally get his army, but it took him a lot.
03:41A lot of crazy weirwood visions and Alice Rivers killing Grover Tully in order to get them.
03:46Zooming in hands here, I do not see Craig and Stark on the march with them.
03:50He only sent some greybeards. He didn't send a giant force.
03:53Just because he said he needed most of them up north because quote unquote worst things were up there.
03:58Basically implying the White Walkers.
04:00That'll be a whole thing during season 3, season 4.
04:02I expect them to allude to that a little bit more towards the end of the show.
04:06Part of the new lore that they imply during episode 1.
04:08They didn't say this discreetly, they just kind of imply it.
04:11Is that Torrhen Stark, the king who bent the knee, the king in the north who bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror.
04:16They imply the reason why he bent the knee so quickly is because Aegon probably told him the prophecy about the Night King, the White Walkers and the Long Night.
04:23So he probably realized how futile it was to actually fight and that Aegon was trying to help.
04:28Torrhen Stark would have sooner died than bent the knee.
04:32Unless he believed the Conqueror could bring unity to the Seven Kingdoms.
04:36There are a couple brief references to that during Jace and Cregan Stark's scenes.
04:39But they just allude to it. Like the showrunner said that he didn't want to explain that too much.
04:43Just because George RR Martin is still writing a bunch of new material for this era in the timeline.
04:48This is actually meant to be Ormund Hightower's Hightower army coming from the south, from Oldtown.
04:53Because we see Daeron and Tessarion, one of the new dragons that we haven't seen before, flying with them.
04:59And they said at the Green Council meeting that Tessarion would be taking flight and joining the fight really soon.
05:05Did not expect to see Daeron and Tessarion during this episode. Wasn't expecting it until like season 3.
05:10That turned into a big thing in the fandom too, especially during season 1.
05:13Like there was some light mentions, we didn't think we were going to see him for a long time.
05:17They said we see him during season 2.
05:19Then all of a sudden we started getting name drops in like every single episode.
05:22So it's like when is he going to show up? Why are they mentioning so much if he's not going to show up?
05:25Turns out he's showing up in the finale.
05:28Just to give you an idea, Tessarion was hatched from an egg that was put in his crib when he was a baby.
05:33Which is why the dragon is so small.
05:35It's kind of the same situation with Jace and Vermax.
05:38Vermax was an egg that was put in his crib as a baby.
05:41So this dragon is maybe just like a tiny bit smaller than Bela's dragon, Moondancer.
05:45Love the way Kristen Cole is basically telling everyone that they're going to die here in his army because of the dragons.
05:50His whole speech is about the dragons joining the fight.
05:53They're being a bunch of nuclear weapons, basically laying waste to everything.
05:56And then turning to ash beneath them.
05:58Which is a callback to the battle at Rook's Rest.
06:00When he literally saw the person turn to ash and blow away right next to him.
06:05Then we see Caraxes at Harrenhal.
06:08And this is Syrax and Seasmoke coming there.
06:10So it means that Rhaenyra is coming to Harrenhal.
06:13Probably to link up with Daemon so they can get on the same page.
06:16And to make a plan for how they're going to take King's Landing.
06:19Because that burning city that Aemond is watching on Vhagar's back actually isn't King's Landing.
06:25This might be somewhere like Maidenpool, somewhere on the coast in the Riverlands.
06:29With Daemon and Rhaenyra using this as a way to distract Aemond.
06:32One of their big issues is Aemond and Vhagar are defending King's Landing currently.
06:37They have to find a way to get them to leave King's Landing.
06:39They have to get Vhagar away from King's Landing.
06:41Aemond leaving King's Landing saying, oh no, I made a tiny huge mistake.
06:50I made a huge tiny mistake.
06:52Rhaenyra holds what looks like a banquet for the new dragon seeds celebrating them and their new dragons.
06:57Including Jason Bala.
06:59Keep in mind that Rhaenyra knows nothing of Rhaena in Sheepstealer.
07:02Technically that would be like another asset to them.
07:05We also see Sheepstealer later in the trailer too.
07:07So don't worry, I will talk about him.
07:09But there's Hugh Hammer, Vermithor, Ulf White, Silverwing, and Adam Hull in Seasmoke.
07:14A lot of people also asking about Silverwing's dragon egg that Ulf White almost stepped on during the last week's episode.
07:20Do not worry about the dragon egg.
07:22The dragon eggs are incredibly strong.
07:24Like it takes a lot, a lot to actually harm them.
07:27It's just that the dragons are sacred.
07:29They're so precious to the Targaryens.
07:30When you saw Daemon messing around with one during season one, that's why everybody freaked out so much.
07:34Like, oh no, don't hurt it, don't hurt it.
07:36This is an important thing.
07:37They're basically priceless to them.
07:40But in reality, the eggs themselves are like super, super tough material.
07:44Like the dragon scales are super, super hard.
07:46He didn't actually step on the dragon egg.
07:48He stepped around the dragon egg.
07:50There are probably dragon eggs like that just hidden all over the dragon caves inside the volcano there, the Dragonmont.
07:55If it wasn't clear, that place where they're walking around is inside the volcano at Dragonstone.
08:00It's a dormant volcano, but it's full of a bunch of caves, which is where the dragons basically just sleep.
08:06One of the reasons why so many dragons roost at Dragonstone is because of the dormant volcano.
08:11Like, it's just part of the way the dragons work their physiology.
08:14They crave that kind of heat.
08:16Then we see Syrax, Rhaenyra, and Seasmoke and Adam going to Harrenhal.
08:21It seems like just a talk to Daemon and basically get on the same page, like I said.
08:24Because you see Syrax flying over the Riverlords here.
08:27Then we see Alan Hull with Corlys going to their ships in the bay here.
08:31Not really sure what they're going to be doing, but we do have the Triarchy coming with their fleet.
08:35So that might be part of their conflict during the season finale.
08:38But there is the Battle of the Gullet, and I don't think they're going to do that all in the finale.
08:43Like, it still seems really soon for that, because I know we're going to get a big battle.
08:46But I think that's meant to be the one that's happening around Harrenhal in the Riverlands.
08:50Depending on which battles we get during the finale, I'll talk about that stuff during my season 3 videos when we start that stuff.
08:57We get a wide shot of King's Landing and the Dragonpit, just reminding you that there are some green dragons there.
09:03Lara Strong talking to Aegon, telling him that Aemond is pissed off right now because of what's happening with Rhaenyra and all the dragons that she has.
09:10And how it's basically making him even more unhinged than he already is.
09:14It seems like his whole thing is to get Aegon on his feet as fast as possible to a state where he's able to actually sit on the Iron Throne and actually talk to people.
09:23Because currently he's in so much pain that he can barely sit up.
09:26Lara Strong really hates Aemond and is just looking for an excuse to get rid of him.
09:30Surprise, surprise, Alyson is back inside the Red Keep talking to Aemond, really pissed off.
09:35Helene in the background.
09:36I think the way they left the scene, they wanted you to wonder whether or not she was going to try and kill herself.
09:41But even though they've changed the story a lot, she's not meant to die in that place there.
09:45So if she had, it would've been a huge, huge change.
09:48And it just feels like it's too ripe for stuff that they want to do with the character going forward into season 3.
09:52Think about it this way.
09:53If they end the season with Daemon and Rhaenyra going to King's Landing with their dragons and assaulting the city, basically taking the city from the greens,
10:00we head into season 3 with Alicent and Rhaenyra living in the same place in proximity to each other for the first time in a long, long time.
10:08Does it not feel like that's what the show wants to do during season 3?
10:12Like Rhaenyra and Alicent together at the same time.
10:15Just think about all the scenes that the writers are trying to write for the two of them, putting them in the same room together way, way more during season 3.
10:22I am sure there'll be all kinds of fanfiction going on about that too.
10:25But part of our conversation with Aemond here, getting pissed off at him, is just a continuation of her speech with him previously in the small council room when he fired her.
10:33If he's still pissed off about all the bad things that happened to him when he was a kid, and he's just trying to visit all that trauma on everyone else,
10:39and is driving him to make all these crazy decisions.
10:41You bring nothing but death.
10:43She's probably still really pissed off at him about killing Lucerys.
10:46Notice how Helena is just in the background in her jammies reading, like she doesn't care what's going on.
10:51Like, I'm just gonna have some fun here, just read my little book, no big deal.
10:54Probably reading about bugs.
10:55Back at Harrenhal, the person that's bad-mouthing Rhaenyra to Daemon, saying she's faltered while he's assembled an army, is Sir Alfred Broome,
11:02the person Rhaenyra sent to Harrenhal to check on Daemon, to see what he was doing with his army.
11:07Is he massing one for himself, or is he doing this for me?
11:10What's going on with him?
11:11It sounds like he shows up right after the River Lords agree to fight for him, and they start actually massing their army for real.
11:17Then we get what seems like a really juicy scene with Aemond and Helena at night looking out over King's Landing from the Red Keep.
11:23He says the pretender, Rhaenyra, has massed a bunch of dragons against them,
11:27and he wants her to hop on her dragon, Dreamfyre, who we saw during season one,
11:32almost wound up burning Aemond alive when he was a child.
11:35So a lot of you were asking if Helena is actually going to fly into battle on Dreamfyre,
11:40and in the books, she actually doesn't do that, so I don't know if they're going to change that on the TV show.
11:45It does sound like they've gone to great lengths to make her a much bigger character in the story than she was in the books.
11:50In the books, they don't really talk about her that much,
11:52just the really terrible things that happened to her, like blood and cheese.
11:55On the show, though, they've turned her into a prophecy machine with the dragon dreams,
12:00basically seeing everything into the future,
12:03but not being able to really discern what it is that she's actually seeing or make any sense of it.
12:08So be prepared for her to drop some epic dragon dream during their conversation here.
12:13Maybe, maybe Aemond will pick up on it, because he's a little more tuned in to that kind of stuff.
12:18Generally, all the customs and traditions of the Targaryen family, the Valyrians, he's way more studied in that.
12:23Generally, though, it just does not feel like Helena is ready to hop on a dragon and go fight in a war.
12:29That just does not feel like her character.
12:31Then we see Aemond and Vhagar watching that burning city from afar.
12:35Now, a lot of people questioning where this is.
12:38It's not King's Landing that's burning.
12:40It's not nearly big enough to be King's Landing.
12:43So because Aemond is so obsessed with Harrenhal,
12:45Daemon has been massing his army in and around Harrenhal, the Riverlands.
12:49Jason Lannister made a huge deal about getting Aemond to come to the Riverlands with Vhagar.
12:54What might be happening is that Team Black might be pulling a trick on Aemond
12:58the way that Aemond and Criston Cole tried to pull a trick on them earlier in the season,
13:03like they're flipping the script.
13:04Remember, Rook's Rest was meant to be a big trap for Team Black and Rhaenyra.
13:08They were hoping that Rhaenyra would show up on her dragon.
13:11And because Aemond is expecting to find Caraxes and Syrax,
13:14who he feels like he could probably beat pretty easily,
13:17what if the trick is that he shows up and Daemon and Rhaenyra are not there?
13:21And Daemon and Rhaenyra taking King's Landing on their dragons with Rhaenyra,
13:25possibly because she has her crown on,
13:27maybe ending the season with a shot of her sitting on the Iron Throne.
13:31Because, remember at the end of season one, the way they ended the season
13:34with her turning towards camera all pissed off?
13:37Think about them doing a version of that, but with her actually sitting on the Iron Throne,
13:41sort of paralleling to Daemon's vision of young Rhaenyra,
13:44like this was a vision, but it was young Rhaenyra inside older Rhaenyra's clothing
13:48wearing Viserys's crown.
13:50What if they were doing that to foreshadow what was going to happen in present day
13:53with older Rhaenyra doing something similar to that
13:55with Daemon watching her sit the Iron Throne with her crown on?
13:59Myerly theory right now, like I said, they'll end the season like that
14:02and they'll say the aftermath, like what happens after that,
14:05after the battle at King's Landing for the beginning of season three.
14:08Then we see Adam Hull putting his dragon armor on, like his new armor,
14:12because he got a big promotion now, he's a dragon rider on Seasmoke,
14:15and Daemon giving the world's biggest pep talk to the River Lords army,
14:19no mercy in our dojo.
14:21I think this fleet is meant to be the Triarchy's fleet
14:24that the greens were trying to get the help of.
14:26This is meant to be Tylan Lannister, who went to treat with the Triarchy
14:29to try and get their help, get their alliance.
14:31Cannot wait to see them mess with him, because they're basically a bunch of pirates.
14:35Really interesting shot here too, this is Corlys Velaryon's fleet,
14:38but off the coast of what looks kind of like Dorne,
14:41based on the structure of this climate area here.
14:44This just seems like it's happening in a much hotter area of Westeros,
14:47which is why it might be down in Dorne.
14:49There are a couple reasons why they could be down there, like near the Stepstones,
14:52because that's where their last big battle against the Triarchy was during season one.
14:55We get a quick shot of Rhaena running through the countryside looking for Sheepstealer,
15:00Corlys Velaryon on his way with Allen on the way to his flagship.
15:04Then we see Gwayne Hightower pulling his sword on Criston Cole.
15:08Not sure what's going on here, if he's challenged him,
15:11or made some decision that Gwayne Hightower really hates,
15:13or maybe it has something to do with his brother Daeron and Tessarion,
15:16or he just generally does not like what Criston Cole is doing with this war.
15:20Part of the whole idea at the beginning of the season,
15:22when he actually went with Criston Cole the first time,
15:24is that Alyson asked him to go with Criston Cole to keep an eye on him for her,
15:29because she didn't trust what he was doing.
15:31Like, do me a favor, bro, go keep an eye on this guy.
15:34Then this dragon with the holes in its wings,
15:36flying over this fire here in this area, is meant to be Sheepstealer.
15:40It looks like Sheepstealer is described in the books with holes in his wings.
15:44Not clear why things are on fire here,
15:46if this is some sheep that he just burned, he's getting ready to eat,
15:48or something else is going on here,
15:50but it just seems like it's before Rhaena winds up claiming him,
15:53just because they've been trying to allude to her claiming him all season long.
15:57I've talked about this in previous videos,
15:59but the big change there from the books is that it was Nettles in the books that claimed Sheepstealer,
16:03and it just seems like the show has wanted to give her Nettles' plot,
16:06just to make her a bigger part of the story.
16:08I don't know if that means they'll never do the Nettles character,
16:11but I'm assuming that they will not.
16:13A lot of people also asking about the other wild dragons,
16:15the Cannibal and Grey Ghost.
16:17I'm not expecting them this season, but maybe in a future season.
16:21Part of the idea is I think they're slow rolling all the dragons season to season,
16:25so like they don't blow their wad early on.
16:27Also, it's really expensive to do the dragons with special effects.
16:30Side note too, really cool lore detail in the background,
16:33this is a bit of an Easter egg, some of you might have picked up on this,
16:35but in the behind the scenes feature,
16:37the showrunner actually revealed that they turned the face of the Weirwood tree
16:41at Harrenhal, like the heart tree here in the Godswood,
16:43to George R. R. Martin's face.
16:45Normally he will go and tour the sets every single season,
16:48like he helps them write on the show, so like he shows up around the production every single year.
16:52But it sounds like when they were getting ready to do Harrenhal here,
16:55just because it's such a big place in the books,
16:57this was special for them, like why don't we turn this face into George R. R. Martin's face.
17:01But there's so much stuff going on during the trailer,
17:03if there's any Easter eggs or references that you spotted that I didn't talk about in the video,
17:07or scenes or footage, just write them below in the comments,
17:09and I'll try to add them to my bonus videos.
17:11I've got a couple Big House of the Dragon videos planned this week before the finale,
17:15I'll try to post them as soon as possible.
17:17There's still a bunch of leftover videos that I'm trying to get through from Comic Con,
17:20so those should post pretty soon too.
17:22A couple big trailers.
17:23Be sure to enable alerts for my channel so you don't miss any of that.
