House Of The Dragon Season 2 Episode 8 Finale Trailer_ Vermithor & Silverwing Easter Eggs
Transcript
00:01It's all a story.
00:06You know what you must do.
00:12And you're but one part in it.
00:15Pretend there's reason you ride us against us.
00:17I need you to fly with Dreamfire to battle.
00:20We will answer outrage with outrage.
00:30Welcome back everyone it's Charlie house the dragon just introduced a bunch of new dragons and dragon seeds.
00:35All of them have a lot of really cool history and lore behind them.
00:38The show hinted at so will break it all down.
00:40If you're brand-new to the channel be sure to subscribe to get all the episodes.
00:44I'll start doing more season three videos soon to recently on the show.
00:48We've gotten four dragons that we either have not seen for a long time or in some cases like silver wing in the sheepstealer had never seen before in live action only referenced or in the case of the
00:59sheepstealer the characters haven't even called it the sheepstealer yet.
01:03They've only referred to it as a wild dragon.
01:05It's one of the three wild dragons that exist right now in the timeline for those you asking.
01:10I do not think we're going to see the cannibal or gray goes to a potential future season.
01:14The way that Ryan Condal the showrunner talks about it.
01:17The kind of slow rolling out all their dragons like the only just tease Daron's dragon to Sarian and little baby stormcloud Aegon the Younger's dragon still do tiny little baby dragon
01:28and while they've been introducing some of the major dragon seeds from the books is the show is done in the past.
01:33They provide a bunch of new lore and history behind the characters that was not in the books originally.
01:38Probably the most interesting bit of new history that they've revealed is that Hugh Hammer who's now writing Vermithor is the grandson of King Jaehaerys who previously was Vermithor's only writer.
01:48Vermithor was hatched from a dragon egg that was put in Jaehaerys's crib when he was a baby.
01:53So he's had no other writer since Jaehaerys died.
01:56He just been living in the Dragonmont this whole time like silverwing silverwing was Queen Alysanne's dragon Jaehaerys's queen who was also his sister wife.
02:04They were the son and daughter of King Aenys who was the son of Aegon the Conqueror silverwing was also hatched from a dragon egg that was put in Alysanne's crib when she was a baby as well to Alysanne died a couple years after Jaehaerys and nobody wrote silverwing or tried to write silverwing after that.
02:21So for about the past 30 years or so nobody has written Vermithor or silverwing.
02:25They even made it seem like silverwing has been taking a nap for the past 30 years.
02:29Laying a couple dragon eggs in that time period too.
02:32During the opening scene tapestry they've actually been showing us scenes of King Jaehaerys and Alysanne and their dragons Vermithor and silverwing.
02:39As you see Maegor dying on the Iron Throne because he essentially usurped the throne killing some of Aenys children Jaehaerys's brothers.
02:46Both Hugh Hammer and Ulf White's backstories are ironic.
02:50Ulf White revealed that his father was Balon the Brave Daemon and Viserys's father likely conceived after their mother had died.
02:56The ironic twist though is that Balon was viewed as this very virtuous person.
03:00So the idea that he slept around is kind of crazy but is likely that it happened after his wife had died.
03:06The reason why I think Hugh Hammer's backstory is a little bit more interesting even more ironic is because of the circumstances behind what happened to his mother.
03:14He revealed his mother was a Targaryen princess so that's where he got his Targaryen blood from his mother's side.
03:20She was the sister of Viserys and Daemon's father who was Balon the Brave that I just mentioned.
03:25And even though Hugh Hammer doesn't really go into great detail about what happened to his mother and the circumstances of how she wound up going from the Red Keep to becoming a madam in a brothel in King's Landing.
03:36The books actually fill in a lot of these details.
03:39Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne had 13 children.
03:43That is a whole lot of children.
03:45Given Jaehaerys' personality, Alysanne's personality, I think it's safe to say that they didn't have any bastard children.
03:50Like he wasn't sleeping around on Queen Alysanne.
03:53The two of them are always depicted as being really big sticklers for following the rules.
03:58And even though their relationship cooled later in their old age, for most of their life they're depicted as being very happily married.
04:05And even though everyone on the show so far that's been referencing him has referred to Jaehaerys as being the wisest, most just king in the history of the Targaryen family, the realm loves him.
04:15Like he's literally referred to as Jaehaerys the wise, the conciliator.
04:18His whole thing was bringing peace to the realm and helping the small folk.
04:22Their queen wears the crown of my grandsire, Jaehaerys the conciliator.
04:27The wisest of Targaryen kings whose reign outlasted every other.
04:31He's also meant to be kind of a tragic figure in that all of his children met unfortunate ends or through circumstance took themselves out of the line of succession.
04:39So despite the fact that he and Queen Alysanne bred like rabbits, none of their immediate children were able to take the Iron Throne or died before they were able to try.
04:49Viserys and Rhaenys, for example, at the Great Council were his grandchildren.
04:53This is the whole reason why they had to hold the Great Council to decide who would become the next king.
04:58Some of his children met more unfortunate ends than others.
05:01This is where we get to Hugh Hammer's mother.
05:03She's one of the saddest stories.
05:05It's a really good example of how the history books that are written by maesters and the stories that are told by people like Rhaenys, for example, who spoke about Jaehaerys being very wise, leave out a lot of the bad things that he also did too.
05:16And probably the worst thing about Jaehaerys is that even though he was viewed as a great king by the entire realm, like the small folk, the great lords all loved him.
05:24He was a terrible, a terrible father.
05:27Like the worst dad you could possibly imagine.
05:30Also compounding this is the fact that he had so many children.
05:34So, of course, there's no way that he could pay attention to all of them.
05:37So a lot of his children became very neglected.
05:40It's kind of like Viserys and the new children that he had with Alicent.
05:43Aegon, Aemon, Daeron.
05:45My guess is that Helene was probably Viserys' favorite of Alicent's children just because she was such a nerd just like he was.
05:51But a lot of those daddy never loved me vibes you get from Aegon during season one and season two.
05:56That's what Jaehaerys' relationship was like with pretty much all of his children.
06:00Everybody loved him a lot except for most of his children.
06:04Most of his daughters he treated like property to either be married off or in one case one became a septa.
06:11So wasn't really able to marry her off.
06:13Expecting them to behave a lot of the way that you saw Alicent behaving when Alicent was much younger.
06:18Doing everything that she was told to do.
06:20Like her father, King Viserys, sacrificing everything about her life to the people that told her what to do.
06:25And based on the couple really big scandals that were recorded by maesters inside Jaehaerys' family.
06:30It's likely that Hugh Hammer's mother was Sera Targaryen, the younger sister of Balon the Brave.
06:36She was born one of the later children in this line of 13 different children.
06:40To make a comparison to current characters on the show right now.
06:43Sera's personality was more like that of young Rhaenyra.
06:47Not really being so hot on following the rules of being a royal princess of House Targaryen.
06:52She was very mischievous.
06:53She had a good relationship with her brothers.
06:55But her sisters absolutely hated her to various degrees.
06:58For the same reason that Alicent hated Rhaenyra when they were younger.
07:02Breaking all these rules.
07:03Like how dare you not do what is expected of you.
07:06So you can kind of imagine the direction this is going.
07:08You have a little girl who's acting a little bit more like Rhaenyra did when she was younger.
07:12Ignored by her father, infinite money, and infinite amounts of free time.
07:17So of course she gets up to all kinds of trouble.
07:20Around court she would joke about wanting to get married to the Prince of Dorne.
07:24Remember Dorne had not become part of the Seven Kingdoms yet.
07:27They were still unconquered.
07:28So it was a big thorn in the crown side.
07:30She also said that she wanted to marry the king beyond the wall.
07:32There was a king beyond the wall during this era.
07:35Basically telling all the kind of off-color jokes.
07:37Not acting like a princess is supposed to act in court.
07:41Pissing off Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne.
07:43More young Rhaenyra parallels here too.
07:46It was suspected that Sera started to get it on with her closest male friends at court at a young age.
07:51You have to imagine Rhaenyra getting it on with Kristen Cole.
07:54More vibes like that.
07:55She starts to get in more and more trouble.
07:57And eventually Jaehaerys gets really pissed off at her.
08:00Questioning whether or not she's given her quote unquote maidenhead to one of these male friends of hers.
08:05This is where the TV show starts to change the backstory for Hugh Hammer's mother Sera in the circumstances of his birth.
08:12So the books say that things went on a little bit longer.
08:14Jaehaerys punished her for getting deflowered by some of these other men.
08:17And she snuck out, tried to steal a dragon from the dragon pit to escape somewhere else.
08:21He forced her to join the silent sisters.
08:23Betrayed by the Faith of the Seven for about a year.
08:25Which she hated.
08:26She ran away from that.
08:28But in the books it says that she went to the east and actually set up shop at a brothel there.
08:32Became a very powerful madam.
08:34And eventually her bastards came back to the Great Council of 101 AC to assert their claim to the Iron Throne.
08:41And supposedly Jaehaerys did not consider their claim and had disowned her completely.
08:46Saying that she'd always been a whore.
08:48So you have to imagine if Viserys had believed all the rumors about Rhaenyra sleeping around when she was younger.
08:53Getting up to all kinds of no good.
08:55Imagine if he disowned her when that happened.
08:57That's basically what happened to Sera.
08:59On the show what they've done though is they've seemed to explain that Sera was just outright disowned by Jaehaerys.
09:04Who kicked her out of the Red Keep.
09:06And she immediately went to Flea Bottom and set up shop there as a madam at a brothel.
09:10Hugh Hammer said that men would pay vastly greater sums of money to sleep with a royal princess.
09:15Like a really high born woman.
09:16So she would have been one of the more powerful girls working in Flea Bottom.
09:20But eventually Hugh Hammer is born out of that.
09:22With no real knowledge of who his father was.
09:24They didn't reveal this on the show and I don't expect them to do this ever.
09:28But if you think about it, if she was one of the more expensive women.
09:30There's only like a certain class of person living in King's Landing who could afford an experience like that.
09:36So Hugh Hammer's father was either a merchant that was just very rich.
09:40Or another member of one of the great houses that just had a lot of money to spend.
09:44And was having a good time around Flea Bottom.
09:46The greater irony with Hugh Hammer now in present day though is that the grandson who Jaehaerys didn't care about.
09:51And the mother who he treated terribly disowning for what was a relatively minor infraction.
09:56Is now riding his former dragon.
09:58So ha ha take that Jaehaerys.
10:00One of the reasons why Vermithor might have cozied up to Hugh Hammer so quickly.
10:04Is because he probably sensed that he was Jaehaerys' grandson.
10:07His former rider.
10:08Like oh you smell like my former rider.
10:10Why don't we be friends?
10:11There's actually some more interesting lore about Silverwing too and Queen Alysanne.
10:15The books talk about her trying to fly Silverwing north of the wall.
10:18And it ending kind of badly.
10:20When they were younger Jaehaerys and Alysanne flew six of their dragons to Winterfell.
10:24To visit the Starks of that period.
10:26At the time I think it was Brandon Stark that would've been the Lord of Winterfell.
10:29Just based on the timeline.
10:31He would be like Cregan Stark's great great great grandfather many times removed.
10:35While they were there Alysanne got bored.
10:38And decided to fly Silverwing to the wall to see what was north of the wall.
10:41Like just for fun.
10:42But when she tried to fly beyond the wall three times.
10:45Silverwing turned back and would not cross.
10:48The reason why is likely because the dragon sensed the power of the Night King.
10:52The White Walkers.
10:53And was just afraid.
10:54Like a primal dragon fear.
10:56Getting real bad vibes coming from the woods north of the wall.
10:59Nope. Not going there.
11:00Not gonna do it.
11:01At the time Alysanne had no idea what was going on with Silverwing.
11:04Like she had no context for this experience.
11:07It was the first time she'd ever refused any of Alysanne's commands.
11:10So she was so shaken by the experience.
11:12That when she landed Silverwing at Castle Black.
11:14And started talking to the Night's Watch.
11:16The Lord Commander at the time.
11:17She pretended like she meant to do this.
11:19Like I didn't want to go beyond the wall.
11:21Recently a lot of people also been asking why Daenerys's dragons did go beyond the wall.
11:26It's likely a combination of magic.
11:28But also the TV show Game of Thrones TV show.
11:31Just making story up that was not in the original books.
11:34So if it wasn't clear when Daenerys's dragons flew north of the wall.
11:37That was taken from episodes that were far beyond the original book story that they were adapting.
11:43All the book material the Game of Thrones adapted ended around season five.
11:47When they got to season six the show started to have to make up most of its plot.
11:50Because George RR Martin had not written that yet.
11:53Still is not finished writing a lot of that stuff.
11:55So in the books Daenerys's dragons never tried to fly north of the wall.
11:59And the whole reason why they went north of the wall.
12:01Jon Snow's band trying to capture the White Walker and bring it back to King's Landing.
12:05That's also not something from the books.
12:07It's just something that the show made up.
12:09The other part of that equation too.
12:10Is that the whole plot of the Night King turning Viserion into a white dragon.
12:14Is also not from the books.
12:16Unknown if that will also wind up happening when we get to the final book Dream of Spring.
12:20The other really cool bit of lore too.
12:22Is that Vermithor and Silverwing are the parents of a lot of the dragons that are on the show right now too.
12:27Their children are Syrax, Rhaenyra's dragon, Seasmoke, Vermax, Arrax, Teraxes, and Stormcloud.
12:34Basically they're the parents of all of Rhaenyra's children's dragons.
12:37Keep it in the family so to speak.
12:39That's also why Syrax's head looks a little bit like Silverwing's head.
12:43But Silverwing is much older and much bigger.
12:46The show has actually upgraded a lot of their visual effects.
12:49They did a good job of differentiating the dragons and giving them very distinct looks.
12:52For instance, Vermithor has the big bushy grandpa beard of horns around his mouth.
12:57Because he is an old grandpa dragon.
12:59Silverwing also kind of looks like she's wearing a giant crown on her head too.
13:03She was the dragon of the queen and she has this very queenly looking appearance to her.
13:07There are a couple mom and grandma dragons on the show.
13:11Dreamfyre is like the other big one, Helena's current dragon.
13:14One of the older dragons that's also given birth to a lot of dragons that are on the show right now.
13:19Daemon's dragon is a good example.
13:21Caraxes was hatched from one of Dreamfyre's clutches.
13:24And because the showrunner just clarified the whole dragon eggs question from a couple episodes ago this season,
13:29the current book lore is still canon that Daenerys' dragon eggs came from Dreamfyre's clutch of eggs.
13:35They were stolen much earlier in the timeline, long before the people on the show were born.
13:39So like right now when the Dance of the Dragons is happening,
13:42Daenerys' dragon eggs have been passed around in the east for a long time and probably already petrified.
13:46The whole reason why Daenerys' dragon eggs were able to hatch is because of the blood magic sacrifice at the end of season 1.
13:52They've been petrified before that, so they were good for nothing other than like decorations up to that point.
13:58But I am sure as we get on with the show into like season 3, season 4,
14:01they'll start referencing the original show, Daenerys, the Long Night, the White Walkers, the Night King, all that stuff more and more.
14:07So as we get more of those easter eggs and connections between all the different dragons as well too,
14:11of course I'll talk about those in my videos.
14:13There's a couple other bonus videos I have planned before the finale,
14:16so post all your video requests and questions in the comments below and I'll try to add them to those videos.
