Old Rajinder Nagar Horror: Students Claim 'Short-term Fixes' Have Failed Before, Libraries Reopened

Following the tragic flooding incident at an IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, which claimed the lives of three aspirants, students are expressing their frustration over what they see as repeated short-term fixes by authorities. They allege that despite past incidents and promises of improvement, libraries and coaching centres have been allowed to reopen without addressing the underlying safety issues. The students are now demanding permanent solutions and stringent enforcement of safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.

00:00Hello, my name is Gaurav and you're watching One India. Today I'm standing at the old Rajendra Nagar, the hub where students, where UPSC aspirants come and serve the nation.
00:16I'm joined by some students who will tell us about what kind of difficulties they face and what are their current demands after the passing of their colleague students.
00:30Hello, I'm Tanya. I'm also a UPSC aspirant here.
00:34The thing is that more than 95% of the libraries here are in the basement.
00:43So, the students have to come to the library if they are facing any issues.
00:51And since it's May, all the students are coming to the library to study.
00:56The second thing is that this is not the first time this has happened.
01:00A few months ago, there was a library in Karol Bagh where there was a fire.
01:06There was an issue of fire and it wasn't a small issue.
01:09The students were saved. Luckily, everyone came out.
01:14But in the end, all the libraries were shut down.
01:18But in the end, after a few days, the police demanded lakhs of rupees from all the libraries.
01:24And as soon as their demand was fulfilled, all the libraries' gates opened.
01:29Okay, so like you are alleging that some people are intentionally making this happen.
01:38Tell us, what are your next plans if the government or authorities don't listen to you?
01:46We will write petitions. We will do RTIs, whatever activists can do.
01:52And we will not let this issue cool down.
01:55Where we are calm, this issue goes to the cold.
01:59There, the administration is silent. No promises are made beyond that.
02:03So, we just want that until justice is done, our voice will also be heard.
02:07I am sure the executive will not hear our problems.
02:10We will move to courts. Judiciary is the only organ that will hear the problem of the government.
02:15Okay, like she alleged that after N number of incidents, authorities are not opening their eyes.
02:22What is your reaction on this?
02:24Sir, I would agree with Tanya as well.
02:26I would add one more point.
02:27Sir, the biggest issue here is that why do authorities open their eyes only when incidents happen?
02:32As Tanya said, the libraries in the basements were set on fire a few days ago.
02:39Why did the MCD come then? Why was the drainage cleaned then?
02:42Sir, there is contaminated water in Patel Nagar, Shadipur.
02:45People are consuming that water.
02:47This can cause diarrhea, malaria, dengue.
02:49What about all these things?
02:51And sir, we have come here to do UPSC.
02:53We are taught here the fundamental rights.
02:55We are taught here Article 21.
02:57We are taught about the judiciary or the executive.
03:00When we come to know that the executive and the regulatory body are not working properly,
03:05on whom should we trust?
03:07Why should we trust the MCD?
03:09Earlier, the LH used to say that we do not have power here.
03:13The MCD has the government of other parties.
03:15But sir, now you have the government.
03:17Why is it a political nexus?
03:19Why is it still a political nexus?
03:21Ultimately, we are suffering.
03:23We are paying the cost of our lives.
03:26Just like he said that students are paying the cost of their lives.
03:32Tell us the amenities you are talking about.
03:36What are your thoughts on this?
03:38Sir, the rooms here are of one BHK.
03:42But their rents are Rs. 20,000-15,000.
03:45It is so high that they cannot bear the rent of a normal middle class family.
03:50And along with that, all the room owners are in contact with brokers.
03:56Brokers charge.
03:57For example, if there are rooms for Rs. 20,000,
03:59they will charge at least Rs. 20,000 for brokerage.
04:02That too in the beginning.
04:03So, it's a nexus going on.
04:06What students are alleging right here is that
04:09government and authorities are not opening their eyes
04:13despite a number of incidents with students.
04:17With video journalist Pankaj Mishra,
04:19my name is Gaurav.
04:21Keep watching OneIndia.com
