00:00An aide to Bersatu's Hilman Idham has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and two strokes
00:07of the rotund for raping a woman in 2020.
00:10Judge Nur Hasniah Abdul Razak ruled that 40-year-old Zulfahimin Mazir failed to raise
00:16any reasonable doubt after the prosecution established a prima facie case against him.
00:21Hasniah also said the defence failed to furnish any explanation to refute evidence given by
00:26prosecution witnesses.
00:29According to Sinar Harian, the judge said Zulfahimin's defence that he did not rape
00:33the woman who was Hilman's acquaintance was nothing more than bare denial.
00:38Hasniah said Zulfahimin took advantage of the victim while she was intoxicated and a
00:43heavy sentence was necessary to serve as a deterrent.
00:46Previously, the 33-year-old woman said Hilman's associates intimidated her into retracting
00:52her police report about the rape three days after she filed it on December 5, 2020.
