00:00It was an important day in the yard. Everyone was busy and excited, making notes and taking photographs.
00:11A special visitor had arrived and was now the centre of attention.
00:19Who's that? whispered Thomas to Duck.
00:23That, said Duck proudly, is a celebrity.
00:26A what? asked Percy.
00:28A celebrity is a very famous engine, replied Duck. Driver says we can talk to him soon.
00:34Oh, said Thomas. He's probably too famous to even notice us.
00:40Just then, Gordon arrived.
00:43Pa, said Gordon. Who cares? A lot of fuss about nothing, if you ask me.
00:49And he steamed away.
00:54Later that night, the engines found that the visitor wasn't conceited at all.
00:59He enjoyed talking to the other engines till long after the stars came out.
01:05He left early next morning. Gordon was still complaining.
01:09Good riddance, he grumbled. Chattering all night. Who is he anyway?
01:15Duck told you, replied Thomas. He's famous.
01:18As famous as me? Nonsense.
01:21He's famoser than you. He went a hundred miles an hour before you were even thought of.
01:26So, he says, huffed Gordon. But I didn't like his looks.
01:30He's got no dome. Never trust domeless engines. They're not respectable.
01:36I never boast. But I'd say a hundred miles an hour would be easy for me.
01:43Duck took some trucks to Edward's station.
01:46Hello, called Edward. That famous engine came through this morning. He whistled to me.
01:51Wasn't he kind? He's the finest engine in the world, replied Duck.
01:56Then he told Edward what Gordon had said.
01:59Take no notice, soothed Edward. He's just jealous.
02:03He thinks no engine should be famous but him. Look, he's coming now.
02:08Gordon was running very fast. His wheels pounded the rails.
02:14He did it, I'll do it. He did it, I'll do it.
02:17Gordon's train rocketed past and was gone.
02:22He'll knock himself to bits, chuckled Duck.
02:25Gordon's driver eased him off. Steady, Gordon, we aren't running a race.
02:30We are, then, said Gordon, when he said it to himself.
02:37Suddenly, Gordon began to feel a little strange.
02:40The top of my boiler seems funny, he thought.
02:43It feels as if something is loose. I'd better go slower.
02:46But it was just the top of my boiler.
02:49The top of my boiler seems funny, he thought.
02:52It feels as if something is loose. I'd better go slower.
02:55But it was too late.
02:58On the viaduct, they met the wind.
03:00It was a teasing wind which blew suddenly in hard puffs.
03:04Gordon thought it wanted to push him off the bridge.
03:07No, you don't, he said firmly.
03:10But the wind had other ideas.
03:12It curled round his boiler, crept under his loose dome,
03:15and lifted it off and away into the valley below.
03:19Gordon was most uncomfortable.
03:21The cold wind was whistling through the hole where his dome should be,
03:25and he felt silly without it.
03:31At the big station, the trucks laughed at him.
03:37Gordon tried to wheeze them away.
03:42But they crowded round, no matter what he did.
03:46On the way back to the shed, he wanted his driver to stop and fetch his dome.
03:51We'll never find it now, said the driver.
03:54You'll have to go to the works for a new one.
03:57Gordon was very cross.
04:07I hope the shed is empty tonight, he huffed to himself.
04:12But all the engines were there waiting.
04:23Never trust domeless engines, said a voice from somewhere behind him.
04:27They aren't respectable.
