00:00:00It's halftime at Texas with the Cowboys leading the Eagles 14 to 7. We'll be right back.
00:00:07It was brought to you as a public service by the National Football League.
00:00:12Well everybody, Ben Scully along with Alex Hawkins at halftime here in Texas.
00:00:16In fact, the boys are just about ready to mix it up again and the Cowboys leading 14 to 7.
00:00:21Any surprises?
00:00:22No, not really. I think it was a fairly well played first quarter.
00:00:26The Cowboys got a nice drive going and from then on it was just big plays.
00:00:29They dodged a couple of bullets and filled up that way in the early going.
00:00:33So they could have been worse early and they came back with a big play.
00:00:36They passed to Hogan for the touchdown.
00:00:38Then Drew Pearson did his act again and it's just about the way I figured it to be.
00:00:41It looked like Dallas might very well take over in the second quarter
00:00:44after Benny Barnes had blocked the punt and they moved down to the 18 yard line
00:00:48and that inside lateral to Preston Pearson for a touchdown apparently.
00:00:52However, they were guilty of an infraction. Pat Donovan had pulled too early.
00:00:56And then you had the interception by Randy Logan so that kept the Eagles in the ball game.
00:01:00But undaunted, Roger drove his ball club in the last two minutes to pick up the go-ahead touchdown.
00:01:05And that's the situation right now.
00:01:07And for the Eagles, same old story. They've got to get points.
00:01:09Yeah, they've got to get points but they are coming up with some big plays and they're not quitting.
00:01:12And that's what's been the story of the Eagles all year.
00:01:14They just haven't been out of many ball games. I don't expect them to be out of this one.
00:01:17Well, we're just about ready to start the second half so let's go down and take a look.
00:01:22We can also check some of the numbers as far as the first half is concerned.
00:01:25First down is 11-7 and the yard is rushing.
00:01:29The Eagles still unable to maintain much of a ground game which has been one of their problems all year.
00:01:34Dallas, however, only rushed for 90 and then 30-yard difference in passing.
00:01:398 for 14 is Jaworski. 9 for 18 is Roger Staubach.
00:01:43The time of possession, Philadelphia finally caught up at one stage.
00:01:47The Cowboys had the ball for over 10 minutes and the Eagles only 4.
00:01:51But as you see it wound up 18 minutes to 11.
00:01:54A final score in so far the shocker of the day.
00:01:58The New York Giants just knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals 27-7.
00:02:04And for the Cardinals their fifth defeat.
00:02:07And a shocker indeed it was.
00:02:09And for Don Correale and the Cardinals to lose is one thing but to only get 7 points is really a shock.
00:02:15That is incredible.
00:02:17Okay, Efren Herrera really got his foot into that one.
00:02:22And it will be Larry Marshall from the 4 to the 15 to the 20 to the 25.
00:02:28And across the 25 to about the 27.
00:02:31So the Eagles have relatively good field position which has not been their story throughout the first half.
00:02:4414-7 in favor of Dallas.
00:02:47A 2-yard run by Tony Dorsett.
00:02:50And a 16-yard touchdown pass from Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson.
00:02:55And the Eagles got on the boards on a 51-yard touchdown pass Jaworski to Mike Hogan.
00:03:01First and 10 now from the 27.
00:03:04Carmichael is right, Smith left.
00:03:07Hogan and Sullivan are the running backs.
00:03:09And Jaworski is after him right away to Smith.
00:03:12And he was off balance and he caught it and tumbled out of bounds immediately at the 32-yard line.
00:03:19Picked up 5, that will make it 2nd and 5 for Ron Jaworski and his Eagles.
00:03:23Jaworski now is 9 for 15.
00:03:29The Eagle people refer to Jaworski as a rookie because it was surprising to me too.
00:03:33Even though you'd seen him start with the Los Angeles Rams, he is in his 4th year.
00:03:36He'd only started 8 games for the Rams prior to joining the Eagles.
00:03:40Well it's a big start for Ron now.
00:03:452nd down, a long 4.
00:03:47Charlie Smith wide left and Carmichael comes in on a wing.
00:03:52Sullivan behind Wade Keyes' block gets out across the 35-yard line.
00:03:57Wade Keyes, an 8-year veteran who broke his arm in 75 through the key block to make it very close.
00:04:05Benny Barnes coming up to finally wrap him up.
00:04:12And there it is now as they post it officially for the crowd.
00:04:15That clenches the division title.
00:04:18Of course Dallas would still like to win it anyway.
00:04:21Come up with their 10th win.
00:04:24The Cardinals fall back 7 and 5.
00:04:26It does take the pressure off though.
00:04:28So the Eagles trying to capitalize on it.
00:04:313rd down and 1.
00:04:34Ball on the 36.
00:04:38Jaworski sneaks, takes off belt.
00:04:42Bob Brunick almost knocked his helmet off.
00:04:45Number 53 did he come in and hit Jaworski high.
00:04:49Boy did Tom Landry pay him a tribute when he said that he was the finest first year middle linebacker he'd ever coached.
00:04:55He's been with guys like Leroy Jordan and Sam Huff and Jerry Tubbs.
00:05:00To make a statement, watch the hit here.
00:05:02Harder than a yard dog's jawbone.
00:05:05Harder than a yard dog's jawbone.
00:05:09Meaner than a junkyard dog.
00:05:11You've got it.
00:05:12Alright they just did get the first down anyway.
00:05:151st and 10 from the 37.
00:05:25Play action fake to Hogan.
00:05:28Jaworski overthrows Carmichael who had Lewis on one side of him.
00:05:33And he was thoroughly taken out of the play.
00:05:35And what an outstanding season Randy White is having.
00:05:38I think certainly he'll end up in the Pro Bowl and perhaps All-Pro.
00:05:42Gave a little false start there.
00:05:44Watch him once he gets cranked up though.
00:05:46He's got the upper body strength and the great mobility of a linebacker.
00:05:49You want to know some inside football on Randy White?
00:05:52Tell it to me then.
00:05:53He has a tattoo, the roadrunner on his right thigh.
00:05:57Pass that along.
00:05:59I wonder what part of Mexico he came back from.
00:06:022nd and 10 from the 37.
00:06:04Had got there having the faintest idea.
00:06:07Jaworski looking right.
00:06:09And down he goes.
00:06:11Harvey Martin.
00:06:12And that's a milestone.
00:06:14For Martin a sack.
00:06:15His 2nd sack of the day.
00:06:17The 22nd of his career.
00:06:19And in cowboy history that ties in with George Andre at 22 sacks.
00:06:24And with a great career that Bob Lilley had.
00:06:26Who would have thought George Andre would have held a club record.
00:06:29That's the way it is.
00:06:30And, of course, Harvey Martin figures to pick up a few more before he's through.
00:06:3514th round draft choice.
00:06:37Would you say that was a pleasant cowboy surprise?
00:06:39Unreal.
00:06:43The ball just on the 34-yard line where it is 3rd and 13.
00:06:48Smith and a slot inside Carmichael Wright.
00:06:52Hogan and Sullivan in the running back.
00:06:55Gregory trying to get in.
00:06:57Jaworski felt it and it went right through the hand of Charlie Smith.
00:07:01Hit him right in the hand.
00:07:03Yep.
00:07:04Good coverage there by Mark Washington.
00:07:06He had him covered all the way that time.
00:07:09That's a hard pass to catch when you're running with a speed.
00:07:12He's got to cross the middle and have to go back against the grain.
00:07:14That's tough.
00:07:15And it was no floater.
00:07:16He really ripped it.
00:07:18New England.
00:07:19Knocks off the lead.
00:07:21He really ripped it.
00:07:23New England knocks off Atlanta.
00:07:2516-10, a final.
00:07:28And Spike Jones, who has had one block by Benny Barnes today,
00:07:32three blocks this year, back on his own 20.
00:07:36Butch Johnson.
00:07:38A single safety on the Cowboy 25.
00:07:41Takes it on the 28 and Butch sets sail.
00:07:44And he's going to be wrapped up by Manny Sistrunk and taken out.
00:07:5212 minutes and 40 seconds to go in the third quarter.
00:07:56Cowboys 14 and the Eagles 7.
00:08:00Well, another shocker to go along with the Giants knocking off the Cardinals.
00:08:04San Francisco leading Minnesota 17 to nothing.
00:08:07So it looks like Dallas not only has a lock on it,
00:08:10but they're going to spend Christmas Day at home
00:08:12and they'll be the host club on the 26th here in Dallas.
00:08:14Does anybody want to win the black and blue division?
00:08:17Maybe not.
00:08:18First and 10 on the 37 for the Cowboys.
00:08:21Salty moves to the left side.
00:08:24Dorsett gets away as Bunning is decked by Herbert Scott.
00:08:29They fumble and let's see.
00:08:30The Eagles have recovered.
00:08:32Boy, did John Bunning get wiped out by Herbert Scott.
00:08:36And Bunning is limping off the field.
00:08:38Let's see how it comes out here, where the ball comes free.
00:08:41It just pops out.
00:08:42Bunning certainly did.
00:08:43You see him go down right there.
00:08:4578 there, Carl Harrison.
00:08:48The ball pops loose.
00:08:49I can't tell who picked it up.
00:08:51You see who picked it up?
00:08:52Looked like Bill Bergey down there at the bottom.
00:08:55And big plays are made by big players once again.
00:08:58Oh, good block.
00:09:01There it is.
00:09:02No.
00:09:03Yep, Bergey got back on it.
00:09:05He sure did.
00:09:06Johnny Outlaw was there and Bergey beat him to the ball.
00:09:08First and 10 on the Cowboy 37.
00:09:10The Eagles in marvelous field position now.
00:09:13And Jaworski shutting up to go down the right side,
00:09:15and he's got Clefley to tie it in inside the 25.
00:09:19Benny Barnes knocks him down.
00:09:21First down, Eagles.
00:09:23Benny Barnes lost his footing that time.
00:09:25Clefley finding the open area that time.
00:09:27They were in a zone.
00:09:28Take a look at it from the end zone.
00:09:30Jaworski back plenty of times.
00:09:32Picking up Bill Gregory right there.
00:09:34Perfect strike.
00:09:35You see Barnes take to the dirt right there.
00:09:37Charlie Waters and a host of others.
00:09:38Bill Burdick in there.
00:09:44All right.
00:09:45First and 10 on the Cowboy 21-yard line.
00:09:48Carmichael in a slot inside Smith.
00:09:50On a pitch back, here comes Wilbert Montgomery,
00:09:53and he goes out of bounds.
00:09:54He was driving towards the 15-yard line,
00:09:57and he's knocked out at the 16 by Thomas Henderson.
00:10:03Wilbert Montgomery, just a rookie,
00:10:05but he was college football's all-time scorer with 76 touchdowns.
00:10:10And talking about touchdowns, San Francisco has added another.
00:10:13And that's in Bloomington, isn't it?
00:10:15In quiet Bloomington.
00:10:16Gracious me.
00:10:18How important was Fran Targeting to that ball club?
00:10:20Well, there's an indication right there.
00:10:23Second and five from the 16-yard line.
00:10:26Montgomery, the deep man back of Hogan, and now the back split.
00:10:33Hogan.
00:10:35Pretty good spin at the 15-yard line
00:10:37because holding him down at the ankles was Harvey Martin,
00:10:40along with Randy White.
00:10:42I don't know whether Martin beat his man that early
00:10:44or whether no one blocked him.
00:10:45That was a blocking mistake, but he was right there.
00:10:47He was waiting for it to develop.
00:10:49So he moved it to the 13-yard line.
00:10:51That will make it third down and two yards to go.
00:10:54The Eagles trying to capitalize on a fumble by Tony Dorsett,
00:10:58recovered by Bill Berge.
00:11:02It is 14 to 7, Cowboys.
00:11:06The Eagles trying to nail him.
00:11:10Out of the eye, and it's Montgomery back of Hogan.
00:11:17Montgomery.
00:11:19And he ran into downtown Dallas traffic.
00:11:22Downtown Dallas is right.
00:11:24Mike Heckman, the first of many to touch him.
00:11:29Now you've got to wonder what they're going to do
00:11:31because the Eagles' weakness all year has been field goal kickers.
00:11:33That's Mick McAmyer they just picked up the other day.
00:11:35In fact, this is his first day.
00:11:36He's the third field goal kicker for the Eagles this season.
00:11:39They started with Horst Molman, went to Joe Hanson,
00:11:41had no success with him, and now they're with Mick McAmyer,
00:11:43who the Falcons let go earlier this year.
00:11:45Measuring for the first down.
00:11:47An anxious Dick Vermeule watching,
00:11:49but they've still got almost more than a foot to go.
00:11:53Now does he have enough faith to let Mick McAmyer try?
00:11:59Mick McAmyer, number one, is staying on the sidelines.
00:12:04He has standing way down on about the 45-yard line,
00:12:09so he is not coming in for sure.
00:12:11It is fourth and one.
00:12:13The ball is on the Cowboy 12-yard line.
00:12:16Eleven minutes to go in the third quarter.
00:12:1814-7 Dallas, and a big play for Jaworski and company.
00:12:22Krepley on the right side, Carmichael on the left.
00:12:29Montgomery and Hogan are the running backs.
00:12:32Fate and Jaworski all along to Carmichael.
00:12:35Touchdown for Harold Carmichael,
00:12:38his seventh touchdown pass of the year.
00:12:41Well, if you're going to gamble, go for the marbles, brother.
00:12:43They went for the whole thing and came off with it.
00:12:46Play action, fake there.
00:12:48Carmichael just snuck out from under there
00:12:50and completely fooled the Dallas team.
00:12:53Wide open, 15 yards, and there's defender.
00:12:56Did they take it? Did Randy White take a fake?
00:12:59Yes, if you're going to gamble, go for the broke.
00:13:03Well, Harold Carmichael, who has caught passes in 78 consecutive games,
00:13:10and has come up now with seven touchdown passes this year.
00:13:14Jaworski has picked up two today.
00:13:16He has 18 touchdown passes.
00:13:18McAmyer trying to tie it up.
00:13:21Gabriel puts it down and has a flag.
00:13:25Well, let's see.
00:13:30Dallas might have had 12 men on the field.
00:13:3312 men on the field, Dallas.
00:13:36You're kidding.
00:13:37Good.
00:13:38You are kidding.
00:13:40Okay, the kick was good, and it's 14-14.
00:13:44The Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles are all tied up
00:13:48with 10.48 to go in the third quarter.
00:13:53Here's the year of the Cowboys, 77.
00:13:56However, right now it's 14-14.
00:13:59As the Eagles tie it up, we have 10.48 to go in the third quarter.
00:14:04And the key play, of course, the fumble by Tony Dorsett
00:14:07and the recovery by Bill Berge
00:14:09that eventually led to the touchdown pass to Carmichael.
00:14:12McAmyer kicking off and kicking deep,
00:14:15and Johnson has to go way in the end zone.
00:14:17He'll run it out.
00:14:20Johnson goes down at the 20-yard line.
00:14:23He was hit head-on by Terry Tortolo out of UCLA.
00:14:27Don't you like the way that Butch Johnson approaches the ball?
00:14:30He runs it with a reckless abandon.
00:14:32I know that's used a lot, but that's exactly how he does it.
00:14:34He is fully intense to advance the football.
00:14:36He just loves it, and he got one yard really on the play.
00:14:40If he just stayed where he was, they'd have brought it out to the 20,
00:14:42and with all of that, he got it to the 21.
00:14:46Cardinal score, Washington losing to Dallas last week 14-7,
00:14:51still had enough to come back and shut out Buffalo 10-0.
00:14:56Washington is now 7-5, the Cardinals losing today 7-5.
00:15:03And it is 2-5 on the 26th with 10 minutes left to go in the third quarter,
00:15:08all even at 14 apiece.
00:15:10Butch Johnson is wide left, Drew Pearson wide right,
00:15:13and now a new house in the backfield.
00:15:16Staubach fakes once, dumps to Dorsett, and he can't hold it.
00:15:20Lazicich then knocks him down.
00:15:26Pass very poorly thrown by Roger Staubach that time,
00:15:28a simple pass that didn't go over about 12 yards in the air.
00:15:31Let's watch Tony Dorsett.
00:15:34Faking out of the backfield, like I say, when you do that,
00:15:36and then sliding back after those linebackers cleared.
00:15:39The pass is thrown back over behind his right shoulder.
00:15:42That's right there.
00:15:44In case you were not with us at the time,
00:15:46Charlie Johnson, who means a great deal to the front three of the Eagles,
00:15:49wiped out by Ralph Neely and does not figure to play anymore.
00:15:53And so Pete Lazicich backing up and doing a solid job for him.
00:15:57Third and five from the 26th.
00:15:59And Staubach backs off into the shotgun.
00:16:03Preston Pearson alongside of him.
00:16:08Staubach down the right side, a diving catch,
00:16:11and let's see, did they rule catch by Pearson?
00:16:13They did.
00:16:14Drew Pearson making a great catch at the 39.
00:16:18A free agent who went to the Pro Bowl and made All-Pro last year.
00:16:21Gracious me.
00:16:23When the Cowboys get in trouble, you can count on them going to Pearson.
00:16:26Look at this catch.
00:16:28A thing of beauty, and that is professional football.
00:16:30You know, when Drew caught the touchdown pass earlier,
00:16:34he had caught a pass in 43 straight games,
00:16:37which is a Dallas club record.
00:16:41First and ten on the 39, with 9.15 to go in the third.
00:16:48Pearson in motion, inside handoff to Newhouse.
00:16:51He ran right on by.
00:16:53Sticking his hand out was LeMaster.
00:16:56And you're not going to bring Newhouse down with a hand.
00:16:58No, sir.
00:16:59His center of gravity is around his knees.
00:17:03He has such tremendous thighs that he has to have his pants specially made,
00:17:08and you can understand why when you look at them.
00:17:10His thighs look like other people's chest.
00:17:12His foundation is built on very firmly, too.
00:17:15He's got five inches across his feet.
00:17:18Number 44, Robert Newhouse.
00:17:20And you can see star box numbers as he comes out second and sixth at the Dallas 43.
00:17:27Pitch back to Dorsett.
00:17:29Look out.
00:17:30There he goes.
00:17:32Outlaw.
00:17:33And Mihalik got him from behind.
00:17:36That's the second time Mihalik has had to catch Dorsett from behind.
00:17:40And that's a long way from the center's nose to Tony Dorsett's back.
00:17:44Look at it on the replay here.
00:17:46Good blocking out in front by Herbert Scott.
00:17:50Saw Herbert on the ground, and from now on, brother,
00:17:52that's the beauty of having a guy like that.
00:17:54It gives you an added dimension.
00:17:55He can, in fact.
00:17:56Look at those receivers blocking downfield.
00:17:59And how do they do it?
00:18:01You've got to get rid of Bill Berge before you can do anything against the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:18:04And that's Herbert Scott.
00:18:06Doing a number on Bill Berge.
00:18:08Even the best of them get road sometimes.
00:18:11Well, a 29-yard scamper by Dorsett.
00:18:13It's first and ten on the Eagle 23.
00:18:18Play action fake to Dorsett.
00:18:20Star box setting up gun load.
00:18:22Gets away from Hairston.
00:18:23He finally decked as he throws the ball out of bounds.
00:18:26Oh, if they don't call fast interference on that, they ought to take the rule out.
00:18:31Manny Sistrunk really flattened Starbox.
00:18:35There was nobody within 20 yards of where he threw that football.
00:18:38Bill Berge can't understand it any more than I can.
00:18:41What's happening?
00:18:42What is happening?
00:18:43Watch Sistrunk decking.
00:18:46Roger Staubach with a lot of time to throw.
00:18:48First looks left.
00:18:49Nobody over there.
00:18:50They had a rotation to that side.
00:18:52Had second givings about going ahead with it.
00:18:54Now look where he threw it.
00:18:58Well, there's your picture.
00:19:01Second and ten on the 23.
00:19:04Dorsett the deep man out of the eye.
00:19:07And it's Dorsett.
00:19:09And he gets across the 15.
00:19:11And only a rolling block knocked him down.
00:19:14Johnny Sanders just threw a block at him to bring him down.
00:19:19Once again, the Cowboys going back running left again.
00:19:22Having some success over there.
00:19:24Tony Dorsett on the move.
00:19:30Tony going to have to get a smaller helmet and a bigger head.
00:19:32And checking Dorsett's numbers now.
00:19:34He has rushed for 92 yards.
00:19:37Yeah, Tony, we're talking about you.
00:19:42He has also caught a couple.
00:19:45Dorsett has caught three passes for 24 yards.
00:19:49As usual, he is making vital contributions to the Dallas offense.
00:19:54Plans to stay here in Dallas too.
00:19:55Just recently bought a new home here.
00:19:57In Plano.
00:19:58Plano.
00:20:02The ball on the 14-yard line.
00:20:05Where it is third and one.
00:20:12The Staubach on a sneak.
00:20:15He just followed over the right shoulder of Herbert Scott.
00:20:18As a determined football player, he went after that first down.
00:20:23The Staubach, who had to sneak in for a vital first down
00:20:26and touchdown against Washington to help win.
00:20:29Sneaks now for the first down.
00:20:30Watch him go just off the right shoulder.
00:20:32And that's how he feels about getting it.
00:20:34He plans to make it.
00:20:35Look at that lunge there.
00:20:37You know, a lot of players are commenting on him,
00:20:39and the number one thing that comes out of their mouth is what a great leader he is.
00:20:43Well, he picks it up.
00:20:44First and 10 does Roger Staubach.
00:20:46The ball on the Eagle 12-yard line.
00:20:50Dorsett the deep man.
00:20:52And it's Dorsett they call upon.
00:20:55He is tripped and goes down short of the 5-yard line.
00:20:59There are three Cowboys shaken up on the play.
00:21:02Scott and Neely and yet another.
00:21:06And the other.
00:21:08John Fitzgerald, I believe.
00:21:10Was a doubtful starter because of the bad knee,
00:21:12and he evidently playing in pain is really hurting now.
00:21:16This could really upset the game plan of the Cowboys, too,
00:21:20because they're going to have to make several adjustments in that offensive line.
00:21:23You see Tony Dorsett trying to pick his way.
00:21:26As you see the Dallas front line moving off the football
00:21:29and dominating the line of scrimmage on that play.
00:21:32And for John Fitzgerald, it is definitely the knee,
00:21:35though he is in bad shape for the moment, 14-14 early in the third.
00:21:41John Fitzgerald re-injuring the knee.
00:21:43He will give way now to Tom Rafferty at center,
00:21:46second and four, and the ball on the Eagles' 6-yard line.
00:21:54Tony Dorsett inside the 5 before he is knocked down.
00:21:59Hawk, we've got a moment.
00:22:01Now that they have to make a switch, Fitzgerald out, Rafferty at center,
00:22:04and Lawless moving up to guard,
00:22:06what exactly is the problem as far as center is concerned?
00:22:09Well, they're going to have to move Tom Rafferty for his regular spotted right guard.
00:22:12He's only got two years' experience to move him over to center.
00:22:15They're going to have to move Burton Lawless,
00:22:17who is a three-year veteran, over to the right tackle.
00:22:19Now, Rafferty is not familiar with the position,
00:22:21calling offensive line assignments, which centers do.
00:22:24That will change the entire blocking, in some cases,
00:22:26all the way across the line of scrimmage and could confuse the Cowboys.
00:22:30Well, it's third and one on the three.
00:22:35Preston Pearson now in a full house, joining Dorsett and Newhouse.
00:22:41Play-action fake to Preston Pearson.
00:22:44Now, Starbuck, it was Art Toms, number 80, who came around to chase him,
00:22:48and in avoiding Toms, Starbuck then was swallowed up by Hairston and company.
00:22:52Where in the world did they get Art Toms from?
00:22:54Got him from Oakland?
00:22:55Oakland, a trade, I guess.
00:22:57Play-action fake there.
00:22:58I think probably Starbuck had that in mind.
00:23:02There might be some confusion now, offensive blocking assignments.
00:23:04Let's go ahead and pass it.
00:23:06That way it's simple. Block the man, head up you.
00:23:11It's the fourth down and five, the ball on the seven-yard line,
00:23:14and Efren Herrera is 17 out of 24, and he rarely misses inside the 30-yard line.
00:23:22He'll be kicking from the 14.
00:23:25It's a 24-yard field goal attempt, and it is good.
00:23:29And so the 24-yard field goal by Efren Herrera, the Dallas Cowboys once again
00:23:34take the lead 17 to 14.
00:23:4117 to 14, Cowboys.
00:23:43You can see a final of Pittsburgh Steelers getting it all together now at the end of the year.
00:23:47Knock off Seattle 30 to 20.
00:23:49A report on John Fitzgerald, it was not his knee.
00:23:52It was his ankle that caused him to leave the game.
00:23:55We'll await a further report.
00:23:57So Herrera, who just kicked a 24-yard field goal to put the Cowboys in front,
00:24:02now kicking off, Wilbert Montgomery will back to the goal line.
00:24:06To the 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and down he goes at the 31.
00:24:13Wilbert Montgomery, a rookie out of Abilene Christian.
00:24:17Very determined runner there.
00:24:19The Eagles have not been able to really muster a drive.
00:24:23They've scored two touchdowns, but both touchdowns are the direct result of turnover.
00:24:29One was an interception by Randy Logan, and the other, of course, was a fumble by Dorsett,
00:24:34recovered by Bill Berge.
00:24:39And an Eagle player is down, as you can see.
00:24:5110 to 14, Cowboys.
00:24:53Four minutes and 30 seconds to go in the third quarter.
00:25:00Shaken up was Vince Popali, and evidently okay.
00:25:04He has done a marvelous job getting down underneath punts today.
00:25:08And that time on the special unit, blocking for Wilbert Montgomery, Popali is shaken up.
00:25:15Like a lot of boys from South Philadelphia, you've got a lot of stories to tell, Vince.
00:25:18Yeah, he didn't play football in college.
00:25:22First and 10 from the 31.
00:25:2517-14, Cowboys. Carmichael has left, Smith is right.
00:25:29Hogan and Montgomery behind Jaworski.
00:25:32And Jaworski throwing out to Montgomery.
00:25:35Oh, a collision with D.D. Lewis.
00:25:37End of story at the 35.
00:25:39Who won that battle, do you suppose?
00:25:41Both of them were getting up.
00:25:42What a shot D.D. Lewis put on him.
00:25:44That was near your sinuses.
00:25:46Who gets the best of this?
00:25:47I think it's a Mexican standoff.
00:25:52Look at this.
00:25:55Gracious me.
00:26:00Montgomery moves it across the 35 to the 36-yard line.
00:26:05We're at second and five.
00:26:07Carmichael in a slot left this time inside Smith.
00:26:13And Montgomery going to carry it again.
00:26:15He just missed getting eaten up by Jones, so he was swallowed up by Harvey Martin.
00:26:19Two-toe pulled a Batman on him that time, didn't he?
00:26:22Two-toe went flying by and Harvey said, come to me.
00:26:27CBS Sports Spectacular, Saturday, December the 17th,
00:26:30with the WBC World Welterweight Championship,
00:26:34the 1977 National Hot Rod Association World Champions,
00:26:38and among others, Shirley Modany and Don Garland.
00:26:40It was held at the Ontario Motor Speedway several weeks ago.
00:26:44Then the U.S. Professional Arm Wrestling Championship and the World's Strongest Men.
00:26:48What a slate.
00:26:49That's the CBS Sports Spectacular, Saturday, December 17th.
00:26:54Third and four from the 36.
00:26:59Jaworski just did get it away.
00:27:03He was submarined as both Hegman and Henderson came in.
00:27:07Randy White was in there quick, too, everybody.
00:27:09Boy, when the Dallas Cowboys get it together,
00:27:11they either look bad together or they look great together.
00:27:13When they all come, it seems like everybody's there.
00:27:15Jaworski's shaking up a little bit.
00:27:17Watch Randy White, number 54, how quick.
00:27:19And look it, there you go, 56 Tom Henderson with that speed.
00:27:23Gracious.
00:27:26So Jaworski limping a little bit as he comes off the field.
00:27:30Fourth and four.
00:27:32And so Spike Jones will be kicking to Butch Johnson.
00:27:36Another low pass.
00:27:38He got on a bounce and got it away and got a good one away.
00:27:42Johnson has to go back to the 10-yard line.
00:27:44Flag on the play.
00:27:47Franklin has gotten him from behind and brought him down at the 15,
00:27:50but there's a flag at the 35.
00:27:53Great coverage by the Eagles that time and a great play by Spike Jones
00:27:56handling that football like that.
00:27:5856 yards worth of punts.
00:28:00A bad, bad snap.
00:28:02Now let's await the call.
00:28:04Crack back.
00:28:12Look at that.
00:28:14He blocked it just like a good catcher would, didn't he, Ben?
00:28:16Get your body in front of it.
00:28:18And a marvelous play, evidently out of that kick formation.
00:28:21One of the wide receivers came back in and decked the cowboy in a crack back block
00:28:26and he was caught at it.
00:28:29We have an illegal cut, illegal cut.
00:28:32Defense, first down.
00:28:35Illegal cut is charged against Dallas.
00:28:39That makes it an automatic first down for the Eagles.
00:28:43At first we thought it was an infraction against Philadelphia,
00:28:45but the Eagles keep the ball on their own 41 first and 10.
00:28:48That's a big break.
00:28:5017-14 Dallas.
00:28:55Montgomery and Hogan behind Jaworski.
00:28:58And it's Montgomery trying to get outside.
00:29:00Lewis and Aaron Kyle wrapped him up.
00:29:05The Cowboys are aroused now.
00:29:07Playing with some intensity.
00:29:10D.D. Lewis stringing the play out.
00:29:13Montgomery couldn't get around him.
00:29:15And then Kyle just came up to hit him.
00:29:17Kyle playing with a broken left hand.
00:29:20In fact, he's been playing the last four or five games as Aaron Kyle.
00:29:24Watch number 25 now come up for the hit.
00:29:26Left hand and a catch.
00:29:28Left arm, that's right.
00:29:30Number one draft choice for the Cowboys.
00:29:32I believe that's right.
00:29:34Second and 12.
00:29:37Kyle was number one in 76 out of Wyoming.
00:29:40Eight, six, eight, six, eight, six, eight, six.
00:29:48Jaworski trying to throw to Smith.
00:29:52And too tall had his hand up in the clouds.
00:29:55That's exactly right.
00:29:56Yes, sir.
00:29:57He really impaired his vision that time.
00:29:59He couldn't find it at all.
00:30:02A reminder, Elliot Gould and O.J. Simpson host an hour of entertainment
00:30:05on the 1977 Heisman Trophy Awards special.
00:30:09Among the many stars appearing, Phyllis George, Reggie Jackson,
00:30:12Connie Stevens, and Leslie Uggen.
00:30:14The presentation of college football's finest hour.
00:30:17That's Thursday, 10 Eastern, 9 Central, and Mountain Time.
00:30:20Third and 12.
00:30:22For the moment, the Eagles unable to take advantage of the big play.
00:30:25The illegal cut charged to Dallas.
00:30:28Third and 12 from the 40 of Philadelphia.
00:30:34And Jaworski to Montgomery,
00:30:36and Henderson brings him down immediately at the 45.
00:30:39So, they're six yards away from first down,
00:30:42and they'll have to give the ball up again.
00:30:5513 to 14 in favor of the Dallas Cowboys.
00:31:01Spike Jones going back to kick,
00:31:05and it puts Johnson standing on his 15-yard line for Dallas.
00:31:14Nobody coming, and this time Spike really drills it.
00:31:18Johnson at the 15, and Montgomery, Wilbert Montgomery, drills him,
00:31:23and he's playing inspired ball, as you can imagine,
00:31:26a kid from Abilene Christian coming back to Texas to play in the pros.
00:31:33The NFL on CBS starts on Saturday next week,
00:31:37Washington versus St. Louis, 3 p.m. Eastern time.
00:31:43Washington winning today, St. Louis losing to the Giants.
00:31:46They each have the identical record now of seven victories and five defeats.
00:31:52Not much on the line in that game.
00:31:54And now, winner take all.
00:31:56The 40-yard punt by Spike Jones.
00:32:00First and 10 from the 15 for Dallas.
00:32:02Daubach pitching to Dorsett, Randy Logan,
00:32:05along with Art Tom closing in on him at the 15.
00:32:09Dallas finally realizing they're in for a football game, for sure.
00:32:13Eagles much aroused.
00:32:15Dallas responding very nicely.
00:32:18The Eagles, in their last seven losses, have lost by a total of 36 points.
00:32:25Of course, they play somewhat inspired ball at home.
00:32:28They are 1 and 5 on the road this year.
00:32:31The worst Philadelphia road club back in 1970, they were 0 and 7.
00:32:36Second and 11 from the 14.
00:32:40Newhouse and Dorsett.
00:32:44Both backs go out, and there's a dump off to Newhouse.
00:32:48And LeMaster came over to tie them up, along with Art Tom, Hairston, and Mihalic.
00:32:57Barely got back to the line of scrimmage. Maybe a yard gain, huh?
00:33:00Picked up 1 to the 15, that's all.
00:33:05So the Eagles tied it up, 14 to 14,
00:33:10only to see the Cowboys come back on a 24-yard field goal by Efren Herrera.
00:33:17Now Cowboys leading 17 to 14, 1 minute and 2 seconds left in the third quarter.
00:33:24Third and 10, out of the shotgun, Gustavo.
00:33:29Out! Out!
00:33:34And Roger going too low, intended for Preston Pearson.
00:33:40Bill Berge, along with John Bunning, just sat on him.
00:33:44There's two good linebackers right there.
00:33:47Take a look at Bill Berge.
00:33:49Pass coverage against a runner doesn't make any difference.
00:33:51If he isn't the best linebacker in football, he's among them, certainly.
00:33:56Got him covered like a dirty shirt.
00:34:01We have 46 seconds left to go in the third quarter.
00:34:06Dallas holding on to a 17 to 14 lead, and it is 4th and 10.
00:34:11And Danny White bothered somewhat with a groin pull.
00:34:15Trying to root it out of there.
00:34:18Larry Marshall all alone on the Eagle 45.
00:34:25Marshall watching as Benny Barnes was right there on top of him.
00:34:29Barnes comes out of the chute breathing fire.
00:34:31Doesn't he, though?
00:34:33Isn't that punter Danny White something?
00:34:35He's quite an athlete.
00:34:36Not only did he get a nice kick out of it, he got it out of bounds with no run back.
00:34:4049 yards for a fellow who has a groin pull.
00:34:43That's really something.
00:34:44Say, don't let these sly con artists, Pete and Mack, pull a switch on you.
00:34:48Hang in there for great entertainment when they switch switch to Monday night,
00:34:52starting tomorrow at 10, 9 Central and Mountain Time.
00:34:58Oh, and everything's fine in Dallas.
00:35:04We're 38 seconds to go in the third.
00:35:09And another Eagle is shaken up on the play, and that would be Mitchell.
00:35:14He comes off the field, Martin Mitchell, number 48, led to the sideline.
00:35:20Looks like an injury to the left arm or left shoulder.
00:35:25For Polly, we get a report also has a bruised shoulder.
00:35:29So it is first and ten from the Eagle 36.
00:35:32Carmichael left.
00:35:33Hello, Ed George.
00:35:35Ed George just couldn't wait to get a pop at big Ed Jones.
00:35:40And George beats himself on that helmet he was so angry.
00:35:43I said, why in such a hurry to go nowhere?
00:35:49Ed George was a fourth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:35:54He had played up in Canada for two or three years, came back with the Colts for a year
00:35:58before going over to Philadelphia.
00:36:00He played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League for five years.
00:36:06All right, the ball at the 31 now, first and 15.
00:36:09Smith wide right, Carmichael left.
00:36:13Three, two, one.
00:36:19Sullivan.
00:36:21And on his own effort, he got it out across the 35 because there wasn't anybody opening up a hole for him.
00:36:26You just said it, on his own effort.
00:36:29Tom Sullivan, he was in the backfield with Chuck Foreman at the University of Miami.
00:36:37He's been the leading rusher in years past.
00:36:40This year against Mike Hogan, came into today's game with a hole over 400 yards, which is not outstanding.
00:36:47Jaworski is 12 for 22 for 143 yards and one touchdown.
00:36:53That was a 51-yard bomb to Mike Hogan.
00:37:01Then he threw a touchdown pass to Harold Carmichael.
00:37:06And time runs out.
00:37:08The end of the third quarter with the score Dallas 17, Eagles 14.
00:37:12We'll pause for a word from your local station.
00:37:16Mel's pain in his back becomes a pain in the neck for Alice tonight at 9.30, 8.30 Central and Mountain on CBS.
00:37:39Still one of the great songs.
00:37:45He just moved in next door to Sullivan.
00:37:50Oh, did he?
00:37:52I don't know him.
00:37:54Man, a rock.
00:37:57Look at the earrings on that.
00:38:00Earrings?
00:38:02Puppies.
00:38:06You're going to the other booth then.
00:38:09The voice you just heard was that of Finn?
00:38:11No, thank you very much.
00:38:23It is 17 to 14 in favor of the Dallas Cowboys as we start the fourth and final quarter.
00:38:29And the Eagles, as they have been all year, frustratingly close, but there's still no cigar.
00:38:36Second and 11 from the Eagle 35.
00:38:40Smith inside Carmichael in a slot right.
00:38:43Hogan and Sullivan, and now they send Krepley shaking loose as the tight end on the left side.
00:38:52Jaworski intended for Hogan.
00:38:55Pass interference will be called against Aaron Kyle.
00:38:58And I don't think there's any question about the call being accurate.
00:39:00He came right up his back.
00:39:02He had Kyle beaten, and there was a wide open gap up the middle, so Aaron gave him a shove.
00:39:12Aaron Kyle is not going to make any big to-do over it.
00:39:14He realized he did it.
00:39:18I'll tell you, my heart goes out to these Philadelphia Eagles.
00:39:20With the limited talent that they have on the ball club, they will not quit.
00:39:24A lot can be said for that.
00:39:25They stay in every game.
00:39:27Look at the cover.
00:39:31There you see it right there.
00:39:33So Aaron Kyle all over him.
00:39:35Over Mike Hogan.
00:39:36First down for the Eagles on their own 40-yard line.
00:39:40Plenty of time, just the start of the fourth quarter.
00:39:4217 to 14 Dallas.
00:39:46Carmichael left and Smith right.
00:39:54There goes Sullivan, crawling.
00:39:56Boy, he just refuses to give up.
00:39:58You think Vermeule's not getting the full mileage out of all these players from the Philadelphia team?
00:40:03They are putting out their utmost, and they love him, too.
00:40:05I think he's got a bright, bright future, Ben.
00:40:08Tom Sullivan, knee-touch shy of the 45.
00:40:11They'll spot it on the 44.
00:40:14Dick Vermeule, given a five-year contract by Leonard Toast,
00:40:17and he appears to be the one to lead the Eagles out of the wilderness.
00:40:22They've been in it for a long time.
00:40:24Second and six from the 44.
00:40:26Hogan, wrapped up by Bill Gregory, and that's the end of that journey.
00:40:35Bill Gregory, another one of those cowboys who just signed a lot of contracts, a lot of one-year contracts.
00:40:40He's going to be with them for the next four years for sure.
00:40:47So it is third and six.
00:40:49The Cowboys looking past.
00:40:50So Lewis and Bruning come out.
00:40:52Mark Washington comes back in the ballgame along with Benny Barnes and Mel Renfro.
00:40:57So Jaworski faced with a third and six to keep the drive alive from the 44.
00:41:02Crafley is wide left.
00:41:04Smith inside.
00:41:05Carmichael slot right.
00:41:07Hogan stays in the block, and Jaworski is going to be spun around on his numbers.
00:41:15Martin hit him.
00:41:16Too tall.
00:41:17Jones hit him.
00:41:18Pugh and White.
00:41:19The whole front four was in there.
00:41:21Yes, sir.
00:41:22And that's what you'll often see when the Dallas Cowboys put the pass rush on.
00:41:25Look how disciplined.
00:41:26No one really gambling and getting out of their lane.
00:41:28You can see they still have containment on the outside by Jones and Martin.
00:41:31Pressure from the inside by Gregory.
00:41:34There you see Too Tall.
00:41:38There you see Gregory.
00:41:40And more to come.
00:41:43Martin again, and then there's White.
00:41:45They do play as a unit, don't they?
00:41:47Fourth and 12.
00:41:48Spike Jones got it away and puts Johnson fair catching the ball on the 15.
00:41:55Uh-oh.
00:41:56He could have got a couple yards return on that.
00:41:59He had room to return that one.
00:42:03So puts Johnson fair catches.
00:42:05The Cowboys will put it in play on their own 16-yard line leading 17-14.
00:42:12CBS Sports proudly presents the Cotton Bowl
00:42:14with the number one-ranked undefeated Texas Longhorns taking on the fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
00:42:18That's the Cotton Bowl, January 2nd.
00:42:23The Cowboys putting it in play first and 10 on their own 16-yard line.
00:42:29Dorsett and Newhouse moving around a lot.
00:42:31They finally settle down, and in motion goes Jay Salde.
00:42:34And there goes Tony Dorsett.
00:42:38And then Herman Edwards.
00:42:40Look out for the high front Edwards and go away.
00:42:46Hello.
00:42:54There is a new Dallas record.
00:42:58The longest touchdown run for scrimmage in the history of the franchise.
00:43:01Look at the big hole opening up, and you're about to see why they want it.
00:43:05Anthony Dorsett.
00:43:07Say goodbye.
00:43:14On a play like that, you automatically wonder about Bill Berg.
00:43:17Yes, you do.
00:43:18Let's see what did happen to Berg.
00:43:21Well, he had Tom Rafty, who's having a great season.
00:43:24Had a little stun on that time.
00:43:25It helped his block a little bit.
00:43:28And all of a sudden...
00:43:31Tony Dorsett breaks it open.
00:43:33Efren Herrera makes it good.
00:43:35And the Cowboys are now leading by 10.
00:43:38Dorsett, an 84-yard scamper.
00:43:41And so the Cowboys, 24.
00:43:44Philadelphia, 14.
00:43:4613 minutes and 2 seconds left to go in the game.
00:43:54Tony Dorsett averaging a little more than 10 yards a carry now
00:44:00thanks to that club record 84-yard scamper.
00:44:03He had gone 77 against St. Louis.
00:44:05And Dallas leading handily, 24 to 14.
00:44:08And Efren Herrera ready to kick off.
00:44:10The Eagles trying to regroup.
00:44:13And it'll be Montgomery from the goal line.
00:44:16Behind the wedge.
00:44:18Gets out to the 20.
00:44:20Benny Barnes brings him down at the 23.
00:44:23For years, they said there was one degree that Dallas missed.
00:44:28And that was that breakaway back.
00:44:29The guy that could break it open.
00:44:31Well, they have that ingredient now.
00:44:33Yes, they have.
00:44:34They've looked long and hard for it.
00:44:35They've had some good backs here,
00:44:36including one of them across the way, Don Perkins,
00:44:38who was a good back here.
00:44:39But never have they had the breakaway speed.
00:44:41Dwayne Thomas was the closest they had to it, I guess.
00:44:44Of course, Dwayne, they didn't keep him here very long.
00:44:49Preston Pearson, who is a great story in himself,
00:44:52has carried prior to today just once in the last two games.
00:44:56So, Dorsett is just taking over at that position now.
00:45:01First and 10 from the 23.
00:45:03On a draw to Mike Hogan, Randy White takes him down.
00:45:06Bob Bruning on top.
00:45:12For the Eagles, they have to be a little demoralized right now.
00:45:15They have been so close.
00:45:16They were down 7-0 in tie.
00:45:18They were down 14-7 in tie.
00:45:20They gave up a field goal.
00:45:22But now, an 84-yard run by Dorsett,
00:45:24and you can feel a sag, as you look down there,
00:45:27in the Philadelphia spirits.
00:45:29On the other hand, this is where you see whether you're well-coached or not.
00:45:32You see the character of the team.
00:45:33And look at Tony. He's kind of happy about that.
00:45:35Oh, I should say.
00:45:36Second and 8 from the 25.
00:45:42Martin trying to come in on the right side.
00:45:44And the pass will be no good.
00:45:47It was caught by Charlie Smith, but he was out of town.
00:45:50He did not have both feet in balance.
00:45:54Could not keep both of the official right on the spot there.
00:45:57Jaworski was thrown for two touchdowns to Mike Hogan and to Harold Carmichael.
00:46:01He is 13 for 24.
00:46:03Good for 154 yards.
00:46:06Another thing, Jaworski was thrown for a touchdown,
00:46:08at least one touchdown pass in the last 10 games for the Eagles.
00:46:12By the way, we have another footnote on Tony Dorsett as we look at this.
00:46:16Minnesota coming back now, 24-21 in the fourth.
00:46:20They were down 24-0.
00:46:23That's not easy to do against that 49er defense either.
00:46:26Third and 8 on the 25 for the Eagles.
00:46:2924-14 Dallas.
00:46:32Twelve minutes left to go in the game.
00:46:35Look at Harvey Martin.
00:46:38Harvey Martin.
00:46:40And that's his 23rd sack.
00:46:42What a year for Harvey Martin.
00:46:45He didn't storm in there with an inside rush.
00:46:48I've been watching it all day.
00:46:50That little game on, he came free.
00:46:53Harvey asked for the ball, and they have given it to him.
00:46:56And he's going off the field with the ball.
00:46:59And that's an all-timer for a lineman.
00:47:01Yes, sir.
00:47:04Harvey Martin.
00:47:06He's a frenzied type player.
00:47:08He doesn't want to be called too mean.
00:47:10They have now come up with Martinized, so he takes you to the cleaners.
00:47:14Had the little game on, and someone didn't pick it up.
00:47:16Don't know how to block that.
00:47:18Sometimes you use zone blocking on those twists.
00:47:21Sometimes you use man for man.
00:47:22Either way, Harvey Martin put the lid on it.
00:47:25Spike Jones kicking to Tony Hill, who takes it inside the 45.
00:47:30And Hill, hit by Tortolo, brought down by Franklin, shy of midfield.
00:47:36One other note while we have a moment.
00:47:39With his run of 84 yards, Tony Dorsett has now broken the Dallas record
00:47:43for rushing in one game.
00:47:45His previous record was 153 by Calvin Hill.
00:47:49So it's a big day for the Cowboys.
00:47:51They're leading 24-14.
00:47:56Well, it's a big day for Harvey Martin, as you see.
00:47:59He breaks George Andre's Cowboy record of sacks.
00:48:02He had 22.
00:48:03This is his third of the day to give him 23.
00:48:07Also another fellow who we'll remember today,
00:48:09Tony Dorsett has rushed for 184 yards,
00:48:13breaking Calvin Hill's Cowboy record of 153.
00:48:17And Tony has also tied Dwayne Thomas for most touchdowns, rushing with 11.
00:48:22And he figures to break that before the year is out.
00:48:26First and 10, the ball at midfield.
00:48:28Drew Pearson in motion.
00:48:31Stopped off to Newhouse, grabbed by Arch,
00:48:33palms by the ankle, and then they bend him backwards.
00:48:36That's one of those two linemen get you and make a wish.
00:48:40I'll run north and I'll run south.
00:48:42We'll see how the ball carrier comes.
00:48:46Yeah, that's one thing.
00:48:47You might be leading.
00:48:48It might be called a comfortable lead,
00:48:49but you still have to go into that pile.
00:48:51Yes.
00:48:52Now, it's interesting to see that the Dallas Cowboys have the killer instinct
00:48:55that sometimes I think they lack.
00:48:57And there's Dwayne Thomas.
00:49:00Dwayne on a hill.
00:49:01He's still number one.
00:49:04In his own mind, he's still number one.
00:49:06Well, he better be number one A and B.
00:49:10Starbuck.
00:49:12Looked and looked and then finally went down.
00:49:20Mark Toms, number 80, making his presence felt in the middle of that.
00:49:25So it is third and nine.
00:49:27And Preston Pearson comes in along with Golden Richards.
00:49:30Robert Newhouse goes out.
00:49:34We have 10 minutes and 32 seconds left to go in the ballgame.
00:49:37The ballgame, Cowboys 24 and the Eagles 14.
00:49:41It was 14 to 7 halftime, Dallas.
00:49:44And it got to 14-14, 17-14, Dallas.
00:49:47And now the Cowboys are leading by 10 thanks to that 84-yarder by Tony Dorsett.
00:49:53Third and nine for Starbuck out of the shotgun.
00:49:59And it is picked off by Randy Logan.
00:50:01That's his second interception of the day.
00:50:04Still on his feet and still in bounds at midfield.
00:50:08And finally dragged down at the 40 and looked like he was going to go.
00:50:12Does that tell you a little bit about the character of the Eagle team?
00:50:15I'm convinced.
00:50:16O'Neal's got them headed in the right direction and look out from here on out.
00:50:20Randy Logan finally brought down by Philly Joe Dupre.
00:50:23From the end zone, a little blitz on that time,
00:50:25which they didn't always send one person on passing situations.
00:50:28Beautiful interception here.
00:50:31And a fine job of running, too.
00:50:33Not necessarily the right direction, but he should have headed that field there.
00:50:36You can see.
00:50:37Broke the tackle, but very determined.
00:50:40And the Cowboys don't seem to be too anxious about that.
00:50:45So the Eagles have it first and ten on the Cowboy 38.
00:50:49Carmichael is right.
00:50:50Smith is left.
00:50:53Play action fake to Sullivan.
00:50:55And Randy White throws it and caught by Charlie Waters.
00:51:01So he threw it away and Charlie Waters intercepted it.
00:51:04Oh, the inexperience came out there, didn't it?
00:51:07If you're going to ground it, go ahead and ground it.
00:51:09But don't risk an interception there.
00:51:11It could have been worse.
00:51:12That could have gone for a touchdown.
00:51:15Can't find anybody open downfield.
00:51:17Got the strong rush there by Randy White.
00:51:19Threw it down.
00:51:21Not out there.
00:51:22Not around Charlie Waters, his third interception of the season.
00:51:25He was trying to find Mike Hogan, and instead Waters takes it back.
00:51:29So back-to-back interceptions by Logan and then Waters and Dallas
00:51:33has it first and ten on their own 47, leading 24 to 14.
00:51:40So let's look at that interception again as Ron Jaworski shows the inexperience,
00:51:44the reason he has thrown so many interceptions this year.
00:51:47It will come with experience.
00:51:48That's his 20th of the season.
00:51:51That's Tony Dorsett carrying across midfield.
00:51:53The Cowboys had it first and ten on their own 47.
00:51:56So Dorsett picks up a couple.
00:51:58Just prior to that handoff, he had rushed for 184 yards.
00:52:03So Dorsett having a big day, and, of course, he has the outstanding run of the day,
00:52:08an 84-yard touchdown run that would appear to have broken the ballgame open.
00:52:13And unlike Walter Payton, he doesn't have to carry the ball 40 times a game,
00:52:16and it should last a lot longer in the league.
00:52:18Second and six from the Eagle, 49.
00:52:21Staubach pitching to Dorsett, and Dorsett goes down.
00:52:25Art Toms has him by the knees.
00:52:28How many times now that Dorsett will be called on to carry?
00:52:34Dorsett has caught three passes, and he has carried 20 times.
00:52:41And, again, Philadelphia not giving up.
00:52:44Look at the pursuit there.
00:52:45Art Toms coming in and looking pretty well to me.
00:52:48Cincinnati knocks off Kansas City 27-7.
00:52:51That's a final.
00:52:54Cincinnati finally getting their act together after such a slow start.
00:52:57Third and six, the ball on the 49.
00:53:05Out of the shotgun.
00:53:07Burnham putting on a little heat, but he dumps it and gets it off to Preston Pearson.
00:53:11And Pearson goes down, but not before he picks up the first down inside the Eagle 40.
00:53:17Could you tell he had been a basketball player in college?
00:53:20Robbing it with a pick and roll.
00:53:24Oh, you see him do it so often.
00:53:26Watch Preston Pearson.
00:53:27He did not play college football, as everybody knows.
00:53:29He did play basketball at Illinois.
00:53:32And, look, a rolling there and rolling back again.
00:53:39Preston, of course, played three years with Baltimore, five with Pittsburgh.
00:53:43He's got 11 years of experience tucked away.
00:53:46And he gets the first down.
00:53:47The Cowboys have it first and 10 on the Eagle, 39.
00:53:50Seven minutes, 45 seconds left in the game.
00:53:54Staubach on a draw to Dorsett.
00:53:56And he's across the 35.
00:53:59A master hanging on for dear life.
00:54:01He just brings you to the edge of your seat when he gets his hands on the ball, because any second.
00:54:07Anthony Dorsett, one of the many stories down here in Dallas.
00:54:13A reminder, our CBS Sports Spectacular on Saturday, December 17th.
00:54:17We have the WBC World Welterweight Championship, Palomino vs. Palacios.
00:54:21The 1977 National Hot Rod Association World Championship.
00:54:25The U.S. Professional Arm Wrestling Championship.
00:54:28And the World's Strongest Men.
00:54:29All coming up Saturday, December 17th on the CBS Sports Spectacular.
00:54:34Second and five from the 34, Robert Newhouse.
00:54:42Shaken up on that play in a head-to-head collision with Bill Bergey.
00:54:46And Bergey on his knees.
00:54:48He met Newhouse head-on.
00:54:51He's okay, but you could hear some music.
00:54:55Maybe Bill Bergey knew what he was talking about when he said the Dallas Cowboys were the best team in football.
00:55:00He didn't say divide the conferences either.
00:55:02He said the best team in football.
00:55:04Bergey really took a lick.
00:55:06It was just a head-on collision between Bergey and Newhouse.
00:55:09But Newhouse had the impetus.
00:55:11And Bergey lost that one.
00:55:15So Charlie Johnson was wiped out early and was sent to the pits.
00:55:18Vince Popali has a bruised shoulder.
00:55:21And now we see Bill Bergey shaken up on that head-to-head collision with Robert Newhouse.
00:55:31Well, Bergey suffering an injury apparently around the right eye.
00:55:36Maybe the eyebrow.
00:55:40You can just know he's going to be back in the ballgame as soon as he gets that repair.
00:55:433rd and 2 from the 31.
00:55:48Dorsett with Herbert Scott leading the way.
00:55:51And he has a couple.
00:55:53Herbert Scott, No. 68, threw a good block on Terry Totolo, the middle linebacker for Franklin Masters.
00:56:00And that picked it up.
00:56:02Scott in particular is having a great season.
00:56:04He's had a fine day today.
00:56:06He's got a hamstring, I think.
00:56:07Yeah, he's been in trouble with injuries all year.
00:56:11A fine block by Herbert Scott, the guard who pulled.
00:56:14John Fitzgerald, by the way.
00:56:16Remember, he left the ballgame.
00:56:18And Alex was explaining about what problems that could be to the line.
00:56:21Well, he's OK and back in there at center.
00:56:23Although, he limps noticeably as he gets over the ball.
00:56:271st and 10 from the 27 for Dallas.
00:56:30Leading 24-14 with 5.30 left in the game.
00:56:34Stavok gets it to his man.
00:56:36And his man is Newhouse.
00:56:38And Newhouse gets it down inside the 15.
00:56:41A great effort by Robert Newhouse.
00:56:43It was that indeed.
00:56:44Not known for his fast-catching abilities.
00:56:46Bob Newhouse did a fine job that time.
00:56:49Roger Staubach with just so much time.
00:56:51They're double palms, as you see.
00:56:52Well, they're doubling everybody.
00:56:56Look at the spin.
00:56:57Interesting to watch a lineman on that play.
00:57:01Manny Sistrunk thought Staubach has got so much time, he must have delivered the ball.
00:57:05Manny Sistrunk came back off the line to go deep.
00:57:07Staubach still was holding the ball.
00:57:09A great point.
00:57:10And you're totally accurate as usual, Ben Scully.
00:57:141st and 10 from the 14.
00:57:174.50 left in the game.
00:57:20Anthony Dorsett, nowhere.
00:57:22Who do you think made the tackle?
00:57:23The guy who was injured just a moment ago.
00:57:25Double sixes, Bill Bergen.
00:57:27As long as I'm out here, I might as well make the tackle.
00:57:31Let's watch him again.
00:57:32He's just a joy to watch play.
00:57:35A missed assignment somewhere.
00:57:37There's a flag on the play, so here's the call.
00:57:41Illegal procedure.
00:57:43Dallas.
00:57:44So, illegal procedure against Dallas.
00:57:46Unofficially, that would be, I believe, the seventh penalty charged against Dallas.
00:57:50The Eagles have been penalized four times.
00:57:53Dallas lost a touchdown on one penalty, but they were able to regroup.
00:57:57Four minutes and 46 seconds left to go.
00:58:03Roger Staubach.
00:58:05A nice afternoon for him.
00:58:0713 out of 26 for 143 yards.
00:58:10And one touchdown.
00:58:13Credit whoever you want to for the imagination of the Cowboy Offensive plan,
00:58:16but it's working nicely.
00:58:18I want to check the yardage, too.
00:58:19Make it 193 yards for Staubach passing.
00:58:22Anthony Dorsett just running by people.
00:58:27He got by Sistrunk, and he got by Bergey,
00:58:30and only shy of the 10-yard line, Mihalik finally got him.
00:58:33Give me some.
00:58:34Oh, marvelous.
00:58:35Let's watch it.
00:58:36There's Herbert Scott again.
00:58:38That's also Tom Rafty, both pulling out there in front.
00:58:41No, that's just poor tackling.
00:58:43Poor tackling by the Eagles.
00:58:44That's not good.
00:58:45That's not good.
00:58:46That's not good.
00:58:47That's not good.
00:58:48That's not good.
00:58:49That's not good.
00:58:51Poor tackling by the Eagles that time.
00:58:53He busted Bergey.
00:58:54That's over 200 yards now.
00:58:57Dorsett has carried 23 times for 206 yards.
00:59:01What a show he's putting on.
00:59:06Second and six from the 10.
00:59:15Uh-oh, fumble.
00:59:17Loose ball.
00:59:18He recovers.
00:59:21And the Eagles recover, and it's LeMaster
00:59:23who recovered it at the 10-yard line.
00:59:26Take a look at it.
00:59:27He never had control of the ball there.
00:59:30He pulls away.
00:59:32It's impossible to determine whose fault that is,
00:59:34and I don't think even Roger, his center, knows.
00:59:39So LeMaster recovers the fumble,
00:59:41and Fitzgerald is still on the field.
00:59:43Fitzgerald was hurt again.
00:59:45This is the second time that John has been banged up.
00:59:48Fitzgerald is part of the Irish Mafia
00:59:50along with Rafferty and Donovan down here,
00:59:52but he's hurting today.
00:59:5424-14 Dallas, 3.50 left.
00:59:58This is the start of the ballgame
00:59:59that John Fitzgerald was banged up.
01:00:01He had a bad knee.
01:00:02He's going to have surgery in the offseason,
01:00:04and that he would not start,
01:00:05and they doubted if he'd even play.
01:00:07But Fitzgerald, a seven-year veteran
01:00:09out of Boston College, insisted on playing.
01:00:12When he was introduced to this crowd of 60,000,
01:00:14he limped out onto the field, but he played.
01:00:17He went down with an ankle injury earlier,
01:00:19came back to play some more,
01:00:21and he has just gone down again,
01:00:22and is being helped off the field.
01:00:25But John Fitzgerald, banged up, refuses to sit down.
01:00:30Say 56 minutes is enough with a torn cartilage.
01:00:34One other note about Tony Dorsett
01:00:37as we have this moment to pass it to you.
01:00:40Dorsett has rushed for 162 yards in the second half.
01:00:45So he broke the club record in a half.
01:00:48And that's about what he's been playing up games, too,
01:00:50but half a game.
01:00:51First and 10 for the Eagles on their own 10.
01:00:543.50 left in the game.
01:00:56Gregory almost jumped off sides,
01:00:58and here he comes anyway.
01:01:00And a dump off on the right side to Hogan,
01:01:02and he's going to be swallowed up.
01:01:04And they're going to lose a couple of yards on the play.
01:01:087. Jaworski.
01:01:10All he saw was 77.
01:01:13Joe Gregory's a whole lot better football player
01:01:15than most people give him credit for.
01:01:16He's never been a regular, but this is spot duty,
01:01:18and he's been very valuable to the Cowboys in years past.
01:01:24The Ron Jaworski.
01:01:25And in checking Jaworski's numbers today,
01:01:28he is 14 for 26 for 152 yards,
01:01:32two touchdown passes, one interception.
01:01:37And 12 from the 8, so they lost two yards on the play.
01:01:40Three minutes left in the game.
01:01:44Hogan and Sullivan behind Jaworski.
01:01:47And the backs come out.
01:01:49In the pass, great catch by Sullivan,
01:01:51and again he didn't get back to the line of scrimmage.
01:01:53He was just shy of the 10-yard line,
01:01:55so it'll be third and 11.
01:01:58Well, it's an impossible situation
01:02:00for a young quarterback, a young team,
01:02:02a relatively young team like the Eagles.
01:02:04Situations like playing against
01:02:06a young Dallas Cowboy team so well-schooled,
01:02:08so well-rehearsed.
01:02:09But that man right there, Tom Landry,
01:02:11what a great job he and his coaching staff do.
01:02:13There's another man, Gil Brandt,
01:02:15what a great job he's done finding talent
01:02:17and developing talent on this Dallas team.
01:02:20The Dallas Club on their way
01:02:22to their 10th win with only two losses.
01:02:25And after today, they will go to San Francisco
01:02:28and finish up at home against Denver.
01:02:30That should be quite a meeting.
01:02:34Jaworski, with a little time to set up,
01:02:37intended for Harold Carmichael
01:02:39with Mark Washington and Mel Renfro
01:02:41right there with him.
01:02:42And that will be that,
01:02:43as the Eagles will have to give up the ball.
01:02:46But the big play, I think you look back,
01:02:48the Eagles were very much in the game.
01:02:50It was 17 to 14, but the Eagles were battling.
01:02:53And then Tony Dorsett ran for 84 yards
01:02:56and all the air came out of the balloon.
01:02:58That and a key interception by Jaworski
01:03:00when they could have gotten themselves back in the thing.
01:03:03Got to try Charlie Waters.
01:03:06Randy Logan has picked off
01:03:08two of Roger Staubach's passes.
01:03:10One eventually led to a touchdown for the Eagles.
01:03:13But it's a Dallas ballgame with 2.50 left.
01:03:16Spike Jones getting it out of there.
01:03:20But he was in such a hurry, he almost hit off his knee.
01:03:23Cliff Harris will be spun around and down he goes.
01:03:27Eric Johnson wrapped him up.
01:03:29I don't know why Cliff Harris is not a rodeo rider.
01:03:32He reminds me of Larry Mahan, the things he does.
01:03:35Bill Gregory tried to block the punt.
01:03:38You see him rolling around like a loose ball.
01:03:40I think he had a notion to maybe run it this time.
01:03:42Let's see why.
01:03:44He intended to run, saw there was nowhere to go.
01:03:47You're not going to fool Dallas with a situation like that.
01:03:51Gregory said, why didn't you run?
01:03:54That's a 31-yard punt for Spike Jones.
01:04:00The Cowboys put it in play 1st and 10 on the Eagle 43.
01:04:04Leading by 10, trying to get some more.
01:04:07Here's Larry Brinson to the 40-yard line.
01:04:10Backup running back there 3 deep in that position
01:04:12with Newhouse, Laidlaw, and Brinson.
01:04:14Brinson a rookie out of Florida carrying.
01:04:17He was another one of those free agents
01:04:19that the Dallas Cowboys have some way of finding.
01:04:21They think he's got a great future.
01:04:23The NFL doubleheader next week.
01:04:25The New York Giants vs. Philadelphia.
01:04:27Detroit vs. Baltimore.
01:04:29Then you'll have Green Bay-Chicago,
01:04:31Tampa Bay-New Orleans,
01:04:33and then Minnesota vs. Oakland.
01:04:35That's where you and I will be, Alex,
01:04:37and Atlanta vs. Los Angeles.
01:04:38I am looking forward to getting back out
01:04:40in that West Coast area.
01:04:41Seeing a left-handed quarterback.
01:04:43I've never done Oakland.
01:04:44I'm looking very much forward to it.
01:04:462nd and 7 from the 40.
01:04:53There's the 2-minute warning here in Texas.
01:04:55It is all Cowboys now as they lead the Eagles
01:04:58with 2 minutes left, 24-14.
01:05:02Well, in perhaps the wildest game of the day,
01:05:05San Francisco led Minnesota 27-0.
01:05:08Now Tommy Kramer has just passed 69
01:05:10to Sammy White for a touchdown,
01:05:12and Minnesota goes out in front 28-27
01:05:15with a minute and 38 left to go in that one.
01:05:19Preston Pearson carries inside the 35.
01:05:22We have another note on Tony Dorsett.
01:05:25Only two other rookies in NFL history
01:05:28have rushed for 200 or more yards in a game.
01:05:31Jim Brown in 1957 against the Rams rushed 237,
01:05:36and the Rams' Tom Wilson rushed 232
01:05:39against Green Bay in 1956,
01:05:41and Tony Dorsett becomes the third rookie
01:05:44to rush for 200 or more yards in a game,
01:05:47and double threes did it today.
01:05:49Dorsett has rushed for 206.
01:05:52Mentioning Green Bay a moment ago,
01:05:54they have just edged out Detroit to the wire 10-9.
01:05:59Third and one from the 34, and a fumble.
01:06:04I think Dallas and Staubach recovered,
01:06:06even though the last man holding it will be an Eagle.
01:06:08And that's another thing I didn't mention
01:06:10about having to change centers.
01:06:11Sometimes the handoff between the quarterback
01:06:13and his regular center will be thrown off a little bit,
01:06:15as you saw.
01:06:16Staubach has fumbled two in the last two series.
01:06:19Did Fitzgerald go out before the last fumble?
01:06:21I don't remember.
01:06:22I think Fitzgerald was hurt on the previous fumble.
01:06:26And now Tom Rafferty having trouble.
01:06:29Will it not be a timeout?
01:06:31Don't forget the mixed-team championship in golf
01:06:33from Largo, Florida.
01:06:35Hollis Stacy and Jerry Pate were leading
01:06:37Curtis Strange and Nancy Lopez by three strokes,
01:06:40and it'll be decided after the ballgame,
01:06:42so stay right with it.
01:06:44Larry Marshall and Wally Henry will go deep for the Eagles.
01:06:50The Cowboys in a fourth and three
01:06:52with a minute and six seconds left
01:06:54have the ball on the Eagle 36.
01:06:56And, of course, that was the message we gave you earlier,
01:06:58the Cowboys will be home for Christmas.
01:07:01They will entertain here December the 26th.
01:07:04There's a lot of football player right there.
01:07:07You're looking at Benny Barnes, number 31.
01:07:10Benny Barnes does a great job.
01:07:11Hadn't had one single interception,
01:07:13but yet Drew Pearson says he's the best quarterback
01:07:15in football.
01:07:17Well, that's nice to hear from a teammate.
01:07:19Larry White kicking from midfield.
01:07:22Larry Marshall, Wally Henry standing deep.
01:07:28At time, too much time charging against the Cowboys,
01:07:30so they'll tack five yards on.
01:07:32By the way, in talking about the fact
01:07:34the Cowboys are home for Christmas,
01:07:36on December 26th, the NFC playoffs east and west
01:07:40right here on CBS.
01:07:42You betcha.
01:07:45There's a heck of an athlete,
01:07:46and I wish sometimes somebody would get a chance
01:07:48to see him play quarterback, because he can play.
01:07:50Danny White.
01:07:52Danny White came in a trade,
01:07:55a draft choice to Houston.
01:08:00And that will go out.
01:08:01Now let's see where they mark it.
01:08:02They mark it going into the end zone,
01:08:04so they'll bring the touch back to the 20,
01:08:06and we'll put the ball in play with 59 seconds
01:08:09left to go in the game.
01:08:10The Cowboys leading hand to lead 24 to 14.
01:08:13Left and Smith right.
01:08:16Krepley, the tight end, is on the right side.
01:08:25Jaworski, the left side to Sullivan,
01:08:27and he beat Heckman and goes out of bounds
01:08:30for the first down.
01:08:31Mike Heckman defending,
01:08:32and Sullivan just ran it out.
01:08:34Stopped the clock, first down,
01:08:36and a fight on the field.
01:08:37Oh, there we go.
01:08:40Well, it would have to be my boy Cliff Harrison.
01:08:42It certainly is.
01:08:43What is it?
01:08:44You got it right on.
01:08:50Down in there, mixing it up with the big boys,
01:08:52and that is certainly no place to be,
01:08:54is the umpire, Al Conway.
01:08:56He wants to see if anybody's been pinned.
01:08:59Are both shoulders down?
01:09:03So, Cliff Harris involved in a little fracas
01:09:07here at the end.
01:09:10Our producer, Howard Reifschneider,
01:09:11our thanks indeed,
01:09:12and to our director, Duke Strzok.
01:09:15Both did a great job, both wonderful people.
01:09:17And not bad little dancers.
01:09:19Associate producer, Lee Webb,
01:09:21Liz Buck-Talley, and so many others
01:09:23who worked so hard to get us on
01:09:26and send the ballgame to you.
01:09:2852 seconds left to go in the game.
01:09:31A few tempers flaring up.
01:09:3424 to 14, Cowboy.
01:09:36Nothing like that spectacle we saw
01:09:38in the St. Louis game the other day, though.
01:09:41That was disgraceful.
01:09:43Did you ever get in a fight when you played Hawk?
01:09:45Yes, but only briefly.
01:09:46Took my shot and ran.
01:09:49Put it back to the 19-yard line.
01:09:51Let's get the court.
01:09:52Personal foul.
01:09:53Head ball foul.
01:09:58Well, a personal foul against the Eagles.
01:10:03The culprit was not singled out, however.
01:10:06We're sure of one thing.
01:10:07It wasn't Conrad Dobler.
01:10:09Now look at that.
01:10:10Dallas sitting on top 10-2,
01:10:12but the Cardinals in Washington are 7-5.
01:10:15Washington shut out Buffalo,
01:10:17and the Cardinals were trampled by the New York Giants.
01:10:23And Minnesota, of course, in the shocker of the day,
01:10:26down 24 to nothing, came back to pull it out 28-27.
01:10:32Dallas, of course, in this first-and-25 situation,
01:10:36the nickel defense to try and stop Jaworski.
01:10:40They've already beaten him.
01:10:41It's just a question now of stopping.
01:10:43Gregory charging the pass to Sullivan.
01:10:46Bedison trying to block for him,
01:10:48and Sully gets across the 30 as he runs into Renfro,
01:10:51just shy of the 35.
01:10:54The Philadelphia team you're looking at right now
01:10:55has nothing to be ashamed of.
01:10:57They've stayed in the ballgame as best they could the entire day.
01:11:00They defended themselves well.
01:11:01Yes, sir.
01:11:02They made a lot of good stands.
01:11:03It could have been a lot worse.
01:11:07I'll be home for Christmas.
01:11:09That's the theme song in Dallas.
01:11:11The Cowboys will be entertaining here the day after Christmas.
01:11:14Right now, the Eagles 2nd and 10 from their own 34.
01:11:1739 seconds left, so this one is history.
01:11:20Larry Cole trying to get at Jaworski.
01:11:22He dumps it off to Bedison, who's at the 40-yard line.
01:11:25Tripp drives forward, still going, shy of the 50.
01:11:28Mark Washington hit him on the 40,
01:11:30and he picked up another 9 yards.
01:11:32Good job of Mark Washington getting the shot at him,
01:11:35but even a better job of Berthelsen keeping his balance.
01:11:39Bederson, excuse me.
01:11:41Watch this.
01:11:42Not lost their poise at all.
01:11:44They know what they can do against the Dallas prevent defense,
01:11:46and they're staying right with it.
01:11:48I like the coaching job Dick Vermeule has done.
01:11:50Jack Bederson is a boy who was drafted by Denver last year.
01:11:54He scored one touchdown this year for the Eagles
01:11:56for the school at North Carolina.
01:11:59We have 28 seconds left to go in the game.
01:12:02First and 10 on the 49,
01:12:05and there are no timeouts left for the Eagles now.
01:12:10And there's a man that put it all together,
01:12:13Tom Landry.
01:12:14You can't say enough about the guy.
01:12:16He's got a great sense of humor.
01:12:17He's a very direct man, a very matter-of-fact, pragmatic man.
01:12:21He's honest about it.
01:12:22When they were 8-0 and people said,
01:12:24are you going to lose, he said,
01:12:25certainly we're going to lose a couple games.
01:12:26We're not that good yet.
01:12:27He said, we're about a year away from being a great football team,
01:12:31Well, the Eagles would settle for right now.
01:12:34They've got to believe this Dallas ball club is just loaded with talent.
01:12:38With 28 seconds left to go.
01:12:41Carmichael, Wright, and Smith left.
01:12:48Jaworski going for the distance, overthrows Carmichael,
01:12:51off the hands of Cliff Harris,
01:12:53and picked off by Mel Renfro,
01:12:55to the 35, to the 40.
01:12:57And the aging veteran goes down at the 42.
01:13:00That's his second interception in the last two weeks.
01:13:02Having a key interception in a Washington game
01:13:05has been such a tribute to this cowboy organization
01:13:07and what a great player he's been.
01:13:0914 years he's been in the league out of Oregon.
01:13:12Mel Renfro.
01:13:14He has been good for football.
01:13:18He has played every position that the cowboys have asked him to play
01:13:20and played it so well.
01:13:22Played the corner, played the safety,
01:13:23made all-pro at both positions.
01:13:25Years are just about through.
01:13:26They've passed him by.
01:13:28He'll ask this one, and I imagine that's it.
01:13:30But what a career he's had.
01:13:34So Mel Renfro,
01:13:35after that deflection off the hands of Cliff Harris,
01:13:38and the cowboys finish up with the ball.
01:13:41That's the way it began.
01:13:42They won the toss,
01:13:43and Starbuckle just sits down.
01:13:47The Eagles were down 7-0 and tied.
01:13:50They were down 14-7 and tied.
01:13:52Then Herrera kicked a 24-yard field goal,
01:13:55and then the 84-yard run by Dorsett,
01:13:58and that's it.
01:13:59The Dallas Cowboys have defeated the Eagles 24-14,
01:14:04and the Cowboys will be a host team in the playoffs on the 26th,
01:14:08and their record now is 10-2.
01:14:10And for the Eagles, they are 3-9,
01:14:13and on the road they are 1-6.
01:14:15Well, after this word from your local station,
01:14:17we'll be taking you to Largo, Florida,
01:14:19for the final round of the Mixed Team Valve Championship.
01:14:22The NFL Today is a presentation of CBS Sports.
