00:00Hi there! Welcome to the last day of July. In fact, the last Sunday of July we're
00:06going to discuss what is causing erectile dysfunction, especially when it comes to
00:11vaping.
00:17So many people argue that although smoking is now well known to cause
00:22problem of nicotine-induced vasoconstriction, atherosclerosis and
00:27also neuropathy, what about replacement? And it's getting increasingly popular.
00:33For example, the actual electronic nicotine delivery system or ENDS has
00:40become so popular. In fact, in 2019 it was only noted to be about 16% of the
00:48population might actually engage in vaping activities and that has gone up
00:52tremendously over the last few years. And exactly what is vaping? Of course
00:57there are different chemicals that are actually put into these machines in
01:01order to help people, help people to reduce their cigarette addictions.
01:06However, that itself might actually cause other problems. For example, nicotine
01:13itself as a separate entity in the body will have detrimental effect on erection.
01:19For example, men who are actually using nicotine are actually twice more likely
01:25to experience erectile dysfunction. And in fact, many studies even highlighted
01:31that men who have the actual nicotine delivery system will have a smaller
01:37testicle. As a result of that, their testosterone will drop and also their
01:42fertility will drop. And that itself might contribute towards lower fertility
01:48and erectile dysfunction in many men. In fact, we really don't know what the
01:54long-term impact of nicotine delivery system as a replacement of cigarette
01:59smoking. Some people argue that all the other pollutants in the cigarettes is
02:04actually not in there. But the chemical itself might cause other problems such
02:09as the depression, addictions and also dissociation from partners when it comes
02:16to relationship. So therefore, although one may argue that you will quit smoking
02:21and nicotine is a replacement, however, that itself might also play other role
02:27in inducing erectile dysfunction. For next week in the month of August, we're
02:32going to talk about something completely different and has never been done
02:36before. We're going to talk about a condition called intersex. So stay tuned
02:41for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
