A man burned to death in Palestine. His family is speaking out

Mohammed al-Dalou, the brother of Palestinian man Shaban al-Dalou, who was seen being burned to death in footage broadcast around the world, tells Reuters he couldn't recognise his brother when he was finally pulled from a tent camp engulfed in flames after an Israeli strike. 00:00In footage seen around the world, a Palestinian man was burned to death.

00:07Shaban al-Dallu was in a tent near a Gaza hospital compound

00:12and caught fire after an Israeli strike on October 14.

00:16The footage goes on to show him engulfed in flames.

00:21Three other people died, including Dallu's mother.

00:25This is Dallu's brother, Mohammed al-Dallu, who was there.

00:29I heard the sound of bombing.

00:32I looked out and saw a very black smoke next to our tent.

00:36I ran out of my tent and left all my stuff in the tent.

00:39I left everything in the tent.

00:43I went out and saw my father pulling out my younger siblings.

00:46My brother was lifting his hands to the sky and saying,

00:49someone get me out, someone save me.

00:53The initial scene was filmed by several witnesses and posted online.

00:57Reuters was able to verify the time and location of two of the videos.

01:05when Israel faces concern from allies about its conduct of the war in Gaza.

01:11The U.S. State Department has described the incident as horrific.

01:16Israel says its attack targeted a Hamas command and control center.

01:21It accuses Hamas of putting civilians in harm's way by operating among them.

01:26Hamas denies any militants were present.

01:30Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza in response to the October 7th Hamas attack,

01:36which killed 1,200 people and saw more than 250 hostages taken,

01:40according to Israeli tallies.

01:43More than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's assault,

01:47according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

01:50A journalist contracted by Reuters filmed the rescue worker

01:53lifting Dalu's charred body in the aftermath.

02:10Israel's military says it's investigating the cause of the blaze

02:13but believes it was set off by a secondary explosion.
