00:00In the whole month we're looking at various pollutants or lifestyle that is
00:05actually contributing towards the causes of erectile dysfunction. We've gone
00:09through smoking and now we're going to find out exactly what will alcohol do to
00:14your sex life
00:22Alcohol has always been used as a seductive and also lotion and potion for
00:29lovemaking. So is alcohol good or bad for your sex life? In fact the data is
00:35quite contradicting because on one hand a moderate amount of alcohol can
00:40actually give you that sort of disinhibition and risk-taking behavior
00:44hence engaging in sexual activity. However if alcohol comes in large doses
00:51then there's a terminology described as whiskey dick, right? Exactly what is
00:57whiskey dick? In fact there are two negative impact alcohol can have on the
01:03erections. Number one in the short-term impact, number two in the long-term impact
01:08In the short-term impact too much alcohol actually cause too much sedative
01:14effect that itself might actually get somebody to be a little bit numb in
01:19their arousal and sometimes they actually get a little bit retard or a
01:25bit delayed in their ejaculation. As a result then they get a little bit
01:31exhausted and erectile dysfunction kicks in and that is probably described as
01:36whiskey dick. However in long term there are multiple studies that show alcohol
01:41is detrimental to the actual erection. For example one Italian studies actually
01:47get hundreds of men attending alcoholic classes or alcoholic rehabilitation
01:52sessions and it's noted that 71% of them actually complaints of erectile
01:57dysfunction and also other studies suggested that men who actually have
02:02alcohol or more likely to smoke or more likely to have risk-taking behavior with
02:06sexually transmitted infection as a result ended up with problems with
02:11erectile dysfunction. The pathogenesis of this is unknown however it's believed in
02:17three types of problems. Number one psychologically it will cause depression
02:22and anxiety. Number two it will cause suppression of testosterone with the
02:27cirrhosis of the liver and number three alcohol neuropathy is a nerve damaging
02:33condition that is causing damage to the actual erectile tissue. So on that basis
02:40I guess the only thing is everything in moderation especially when it comes to
02:44alcohol and your erectile dysfunction. For next week believe it or not it's the
02:49last day of July and in the last day of July we're dealing with something quite
02:54topical and something is probably in the news a lot and that is vaping. Is vaping
03:00detrimental for your sexual health? Then you need to stay tuned and find out in
03:04next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
