00:00Hi, my name is Sam Quine, Digital Reporter for the Lancashire Post and Blackpool Gazette
00:04and I'm here stood outside the BAE Systems Warehouse at the Farnborough Airshow.
00:10Now I've been at the show all day and it's been a day of tours, shows, practicals and
00:17interesting information about everything aerospace related as well as defence related.
00:24Now what you may not know about BAE is a lot of things.
00:28You may not know that they're the biggest apprentice hirers in the UK.
00:34Although they're working on a global level, they're still giving a lot back to Lancashire.
00:40They've got education centres at UCLan, they offer, as I said, a lot of apprenticeships
00:48but there's also a lot that they, it's not well known, that they actually create.
00:54So they're in the process of designing new drones for surveillance for the military.
01:00They also have a lot of new simulators and projects to do with AI and teaching that all
01:08try and help military efforts and yeah, it's been a really interesting day.
01:12I've spoke to a lot of people to do with BAE, a lot to do with GCAP, which is a trilateral
01:20agreement between the UK, Italy and Japan and yeah, it's amazing how BAE Systems is
01:29such a recognised and global brand yet the kind of hub for everything aerospace in this
01:39country is in the North West, in Salisbury, in Wharton and they're deep rooted in Lancashire.
01:47Speaking to Managing Director Simon Barnes today, he said they're proud of everything
01:55to do with Lancashire and yeah, although they're a global brand, they're giving much back to
02:01the community in terms of education, apprenticeships and they're happy with the growth that is
02:07going on with the company.
02:09The company are going towards new technological advances and that's how they're trying to
02:15stay ahead of their competition.
02:18The day itself for me, I've been walking around a lot of these exhibitions by different notable
02:24brands such as Airbus, Qatar Airways and BAE as I said and they put on a lot of complex
02:35terminology but also a lot of interactive and fun things such as flight simulators and
02:41the newest models to look at, whether that be drones or planes so yeah, it's been a really
02:47fun day and I look forward to seeing what projects BAE come out with next.
