Steve Bruce shares his thoughts on Blackpool's 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United.

00:00How hard is it to stomach a underwhelming performance when you've been playing so well?
00:05Yeah, you don't mind if you play well and get beat, and there's times when we've done that, like late Norring for example,
00:13where we played really, really well, didn't get the rub of the green, but that's football.
00:18We've put in two huge big tasks over the last week, and beaten two or more rivals.
00:27Today looked a lot more flat, whether it's under Lyon where there's two or three about to go down with whatever Evo's got,
00:36but even him, who looks like a real, real fit boy, he was just flawed with it.
00:43So, disappointing, but two strikers who have got us in that position, where there's no energy at all today.
00:53We were better second half, we got back in the game, but yeah, frustrating for everybody.
00:59You mentioned it's always hard to take players off, but those conversations with the strikers who may have played themselves into good performances recently,
01:05how hard was it for them too?
01:07Well look, I'm paid to make big decisions, I thought we were much better second half, we got ourselves back in the game.
01:14Of course you make these decisions, young Rob, but I did think the subs did make a bit of an impact, give us more energy.
01:22We were certainly better as a team second half than we were first half.
01:27How do you communicate with them now to get their heads up?
01:31Yeah, well that's the job. They've done incredibly well to get us in this position just when we needed it to take.
01:39We weren't good enough on the day.
01:41Is this a message of avoid the table, don't look at the table over the next few weeks?
01:45I think we'd all be lying if we didn't look at the table.
01:49I think we'd give ourselves a mountain to climb, but we're not going to give up.
01:52Are you going to keep a close eye on the games that are taking place between now and your next play?
01:55Of course, of course.
01:57A lot of cross fingers going off.
01:59Well, we'll see what happens. They're all playing midweek down there and then play next Saturday,
02:03so as I said, when you're chasing four, maybe we'd give ourselves too much to do, but we can't give up on it.
02:11How disappointed is JV? He's not got many opportunities recently, but for it to end like that and obviously be suspended now for the next game.
02:18Well, there's not a better lad or a better pro than JV's here, but what he did today was silly.
02:27Let's put it that way. He learned from it.
02:30He's among those out of contract, so is he one of those playing for his future as well at the moment?
02:34I'm not even thinking about that at the moment.
02:36Look, he's just had a red card, so it'd be wrong for me to talk about contracts at this particular moment.
02:43Obviously, it's going to be a long week now.
02:45Two weeks.
02:46Plenty of head-to-steering, looking ahead to that straight away.
02:48Two weeks. We've got a long wait, but we'll prepare as best we can.
02:52Obviously, when one game does come, another one quickly follows, so the pitch could change hopefully quickly again for yourselves over that period.
02:58Let's see what the results are on the week.
03:00As I said, to be six points behind and they haven't got a game in hand is a difficult situation.
03:06We needed to win today. I'm frustrated and disappointed that we haven't.
