Panayam kay Veronica Torres ng PAGASA-DOST ukol sa update kay bagyong Carina

Transcript
00:00And we still have a storm on our telephone line, weather specialist Ms. Veronica Torres. Good morning to you, ma'am.
00:09Good morning to you too, Ms. Diane, and to our listeners on PTV4.
00:13Ma'am, what is the update on the storm Karina?
00:17Karina was here earlier this morning at 4 a.m.
00:21At 465 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, a strong wind of 150 kilometers per hour was blowing near the city center and Bugso, which is 250 kilometers per hour.
00:32It was moving in the direction of the north at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
00:36Because of this, Karina, we are still the number one signal in the Batanes area.
00:41Karina did not have a direct effect on the strong rain, but we expect it to be calm until there is a strong or intense rain in the western section of the Luzon area.
00:52Karina of 620 came out of our Philippine Area of Responsibility this morning.
00:58So this storm Karina came out of the PAR?
01:02Yes, it came out. There are still showers due to enhanced humidity.
01:06Okay. Just to confirm, ma'am, this storm Karina is no longer in the PAR?
01:10Yes, that's right.
01:11Okay. But if this storm Karina came out of the PAR, will we still experience rain?
01:17Yes, we will still experience rain due to enhanced humidity, mostly in the western sections of the country.
01:23Ma'am, some people say that this storm Karina is like a typhoon.
01:29What is the comparison between this storm Karina and the typhoon that happened earlier?
01:35Although the event of Karina is not yet over, if we compare it to the typhoon Ondoy,
01:41the typhoon started when it rained on July 23.
01:48In 24 hours, Karina reached 200 millimeters of rain.
01:54Although the typhoon Ondoy was only 6 hours, its rain reached 300 millimeters of rain.
02:02So for now, we still need to look at the data for 2024 and 2025
02:08so that we can analyze this storm Karina differently from the typhoon Ondoy.
02:15As of the moment, ma'am, are we still being watched by other typhoons?
02:19Will there be more typhoons coming? What can we monitor in our satellite image?
02:24For now, we are not monitoring any LPA or typhoons inside or near our PAR.
02:30All right. Just a reminder to our countrymen,
02:34even though this storm Karina is already out in the PAR, there are still typhoons.
02:40Yes, you're right. Karina of our PAR is already out here.
02:44But its effect in the western section of Luzon is still there.
02:48So, please stay tuned for the update of the forecast.
02:51Always stay in touch with our DRR officers.
02:54And remain alert to what is happening around us.
02:59Thank you very much for the update, Weather Specialist Veronica Torres. Thank you.
