Farmers Fighting Back Campaign Launched in Shropshire

00:00My name is Gary Burns, I'm from EPG Fire and Security and I'm here to talk about
00:05farms fighting back. Well it's took a long time to put this together, it's
00:10probably 18 months and it's based on trying to stop people pinching farm
00:17equipment. So this is a CCTV system that will activate immediately if anybody
00:27goes on site. So it only detects the body movements of a human being, so the
00:32false alarms with dogs, cats, foliage, cattle, sheep, whatever it is, it won't
00:41false alarm. It will activate the farmer if he's got it, it will be straight to
00:46his phone with a live image, so he can make a decision from there. So if he
00:52wants to confront the person out there or he wants to ring the police, he
00:57knows there's somebody on site. It's okay having a CCTV system where you're
01:02looking at footage of somebody taking your equipment six hours ago, which
01:08as far as we're concerned is a waste of time. I'm a Shropshire lad,
01:12born and bred, I live in Hadnall close to Shrewsbury and I'm passionate
01:18about this and EPG are passionate about this and we've got it at Nantwich
01:25show next week and we've had a good response from the farmers, they like what
01:31we're talking about and we've got our own finance company that we use, so if
01:38the farmer doesn't want to pay for the equipment outright, we can put it
01:41over monthly payments for him. So we've set that up with the farming department
01:47of the finance company. Shropshire going into mid Wales, it's massive, there is
01:52equipment going virtually every night, so this is a big part of
01:58why we've come up with this. This hasn't been an overnight thing,
02:03there's a lot of effort and a lot of effort in the design, getting the right
02:08camera and the right recording capacity, so it gives 30 days constant
02:16recording at virtually real-time when you're looking at footage, very
02:23important and also with this new camera you don't get black and white at night,
02:28you get colour. That is the big change in CCTV, I've been in it a long time and I
02:34would say the major change in CCTV where it's gone from black and white, below
02:39four looks lighting level dark, to colour at night and the images are so much
02:44clearer. We have got a responsibility, we're in security and the responsibility
02:49is to protect people's goods. What people own, as a security, all
02:56security companies, they have an obligation to try and protect people's
03:02goods with farms fighting back and the response over the last couple of
03:11weeks from the farmers, it's been overwhelming really and they understand
03:16that we're a business, but we are trying to find a solution or go a
03:22long way down the road of the solution of stopping these people taking
03:28equipment.
