Apple Pressing Day in The Village of Willey in Shropshire
Transcript
00:00My name is Anne Skinner and I'm the secretary of Willie and District Village Hall
00:05and you're at Willie Village and this is an apple pressing day.
00:09Well I think it just gets the community together, it's lovely to see so many people,
00:13they come with their apples but also they come for the bar, they come for a nice bite to eat,
00:19a cup of tea, a cup of coffee, just gives people a chance to get together.
00:23A lot of people have, we've picked a lot as well,
00:25so we have friends who've said come and pick our apples so we've done that.
00:29I'm also a parish councillor and we've got an allotment up in Broseley,
00:33at the top of Broseley in Barrow Parish and we've picked them from there as well.
00:38Okay well first of all you've got the scratter over here which is a
00:42big gathering around the scratter, often male, I don't know why,
00:46and then once they've scrattered it they will then put it in the press and press the juice out
00:51and then the juice goes into bottles.
00:53If they want to take it as cider or as fresh juice they can just take it away,
00:57if not I can pasteurise it because I'm in charge of pasteurisation in the hall.
01:02Yeah and it's just a fantastic system really.
