00:14Sanglad Festival in Santo Tomas, La Union is an important tradition for fishermen.
00:20This tradition began when Our Lady Virgen del Mar Cuativa arrived in 1845
00:28to lead a fluvial parade in Rao, La Union.
00:33In its 6th year, it was held on July 10 and ended on July 20, 2024.
00:40This culture was pioneered by Father Fontanilla in 2016.
00:47The festival started with a holy mass and feeding program of barangay.
00:52The occasion also highlighted the various activities
00:55to encourage the residents to excel in their talents.
00:59Various activities were held such as the Dress Like Mary Contest,
01:05Altar Setup Contest,
01:12Interpretative Dance,
01:18and of course, the highlight of the festival, Fluvial Procession.
01:27It was also really encouraged by tourists.
01:31The adherence to the tradition symbolizes the deep faith and devotion
01:37of Our Lady Virgen del Mar Cuativa, the patron saint of fishermen.
01:42It is believed that aside from the abundance of fishermen,
01:46they are free to sail and save themselves from any danger in the sea.
