First wave of athletes arrives at Olympic Village for 2024 Paris Games
The first Olympic Athletes to arrive in Paris began checking into the Olympic Village on July 18, 2024 just over a week from the official start of the Games with the opening ceremonies on July 26. Athletes from Australia, South Africa, Japan, Uruguay, and the United States were some of the first to arrive to the village which is in Saint-Denis, adjacent to the city of Paris where most the competitions will be held. Athletes who will be housed in brand-new apartments on the grounds said they were excited to check out their rooms and the Olympic Village campus and to get to know other athletes from around the world. The complex, which will host more than 20,000 athletes and delegates throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, is complete with lounges, a club, laundry facilities, a massive dining hall, it’s own post office and even a hair salon if athletes want to look the part before competing.

00:00Yeah, we trained really hard, it was tough, we've just kind of started our taper now.
00:29Our first kind of seven days there were hard, big double days, we had an opportunity to
00:35do a scratch match against Ireland and Uruguay, so it's good to get a bit of a hit out, get
00:38some hits in the body to just familiarise ourselves, but yeah, we're feeling good.
00:43You looking forward to the food?
00:44I reckon it'd be pretty good here, wouldn't it?
00:45I think so, I think it's about 100 metres long, every cuisine in the world that you
00:49can think of is all going to be there, so even the picky eaters are going to have something
00:52good to eat.
00:53Rip in.
00:54Thanks guys, appreciate it.
00:55Thanks very much.
00:56See you later.
00:57Well done.
00:59What happened?
01:00Are you all allowed to walk?
01:01What's up?
01:02We're training.
01:03The bus didn't pass?
01:04It didn't pass.
01:05I didn't have permission to enter.
01:06Where is the Uruguayan residence?
01:07Yes, it's a tower, A24.
01:08Do I fight?
01:09Do I fight?
01:10Yep.
01:11Do I fight?
01:12Yep.
01:13Do I fight?
01:14Yep.
01:15Do I fight?
01:16Yep.
01:17Do I fight?
01:18Yep.
01:19Do I fight?
01:20Yep.
01:21Do I fight?
01:22Yep.
01:23Do I fight?
01:24Yep.
01:25Do I fight?
01:26Yep.
01:27Do I fight?
01:28Yep.
01:36Yeah, I think that opportunity to represent a country at the highest level and obviously
01:42to meet all the different athletes and watch the sport at this level, I think I'm really
01:51looking forward to it, different types of sport so yeah I'm very excited.
01:55Thanks.
01:58Bye!
02:28I'm excited to get checked into the rooms, get all the clothes and everything, and just
02:32get a lay of the land.
02:33It's beautiful out today, and so we are here at about lunchtime, so we're going to want
02:37to stay awake until it's time to go to sleep.
02:40So definitely just going to keep ourselves occupied, you know, getting to see everything
02:43here at the village.
02:58I mean, it's Paris, Fenton's big here, so it'll be, you know, definitely a lot of history
03:13here, and I love Paris, so I'm excited to see the city.
03:28Yes, I think everything is open now, so all the services are now available.
03:39It's a slow start because we will have only 1,500 residents tonight, so it's like 10%
03:45of the village, but it's only the first day.
03:47It's going to really increase on the next days to be full house on the 26th of July
03:51with the opening ceremony.
