00:00Governor, I appreciate your time.
00:01So your home state senator, chosen to be your party's vice presidential nominee.
00:05I know that's something you celebrate.
00:08And your office actually said that you had approved special assistance or approved assistance,
00:13I'm sorry, for Vance Saturday night, that he had additional security outside his home.
00:18Governor, did you know that this pick was coming?
00:22No.
00:23You know, I've heard what everybody else hears.
00:27You know, it seemed to be pointing towards Senator Vance.
00:31And the closer we got to today, I think the more likely it looked.
00:34But you know, we didn't know it was official until the president said it was official.
00:40And in terms of that extra security, and obviously you've been on the convention floor, I know
00:43you were there during the roll call, and you had approved that extra security for Senator
00:48Vance.
00:50Have you received additional threats?
00:53Has anything changed, you know, in terms of that actual situational awareness since
00:59the horrible events of Saturday night?
01:01Well, no, you know, I got a call from the Vance family relayed to our office that they
01:11felt that they needed some security.
01:14And that was, you know, about the same time, frankly, that the president was shot.
01:18So I authorized the Ohio Highway Patrol to go in and give the family the executive protection.
01:27Same type of protection that I get and that the lieutenant governor gets.
01:30So we did that right away.
01:32And I think it was, you know, then we're working very closely with the Senate police as well.
01:38Now, Governor, have you had a chance to speak to the senator today or since he was announced
01:44as the vice president?
01:46Well, just to congratulate him as he walked into the convention floor.
01:51So he and Usha were there, and so Fran and I had the opportunity to talk with them briefly.
01:57And look, it's a big day for Ohio.
01:59It's been 80 years, I think, since we've had a vice presidential candidate on the ticket.
02:05This is good for Ohio, and Ohio, we think we're the heart of it all.
02:08We talk a lot about that.
02:09Now we're going to have the vice presidential candidate, and we hope the next vice president
02:13of the United States.
02:15So if Trump and Vance are elected, if they do win, as you hope they will, that will put
02:19you in a position, Governor, to do something which is crucial to the balance of power.
02:24You will select Vance's replacement in the Senate.
02:26So you know, Vivek Ramaswamy says if you ask him, he'll consider it.
02:32Do you already have a list of names, Governor, of who you will consider?
02:37Well, I've certainly thought about it during the last few days.
02:42My wife Fran and I have talked about it.
02:45But this is something that we're not going to really get to until after the election.
02:49We have elections to win.
02:50We have Bernie Marino to get elected to the United States Senate, we hope, and Ohio.
02:54We have other races.
02:55So you know, we will get to that.
02:58I spent, as you know, 12 years in the United States Senate.
03:02I think I have a pretty good idea of what I think a United States Senator should do.
03:06And you know, one of the main things is someone who works very hard and who focuses and represents
03:12their state and represents the country.
03:14You also have to have someone who can get elected, both winning a primary and winning
03:17a general election.
