00:00from you after your meeting with the former president last week.
00:03So what was your takeaway from that?
00:06Well, I didn't go there to support former President Trump.
00:10I went there to listen to what he was planning on doing if he became president.
00:15After all, I'm a senator and will have some influence on policy over the coming months.
00:20He laid out his agenda, and I don't think he told us anything he hasn't said to the
00:26public many times before.
00:27I wondered whether that would be the case, but the issue I was most interested in was
00:32what he would do to fight inflation, and he indicated, as he has publicly, that he intends
00:37to do that by drilling for additional oil in this country and reducing gasoline prices,
00:43which would have a spillover effect into things like agriculture and other places that use
00:46energy.
00:47So were you – did you like what you heard from the former president?
00:51Look, I agree with a number of the policy positions the former president has, and I
00:56agree with a number of the policy positions of President Biden – fewer with President
01:01Biden, to be honest.
01:03But for me, with President Trump, it's a matter of personal character.
01:08I draw a line and say when someone has been actually found to have been sexually assaulting,
01:16that's something I just won't cross over in the person I would want to have as president
01:22of the United States.
01:24Did you address anything in this?
01:25Did you say anything in the meeting?
01:26No, no.
01:27I don't think the president even knew I was there.
01:29I just – along – and there were other people, by the way, others like myself who
01:33were there who are not supporters of President Trump but who wanted to hear what he has to
01:37say.
01:38And by the way, had President Biden come in to meet with us, I'd have also sat there,
01:41as would have most of my colleagues.
01:42What did you make of your colleagues gushing over him, singing happy birthday to him?
01:46Well, Donald Trump will become the nominee of our party in 2024, and there are a number
01:51of my colleagues who are very enthusiastic about him, and they know I'm not.
01:55There's – he also – he's asking for absolute immunity before the Supreme Court.
02:00That's expected to be ruled on any day now.
02:02Do you think he deserves absolute immunity?
02:05I think I deserve to be on the Supreme Court.
02:09I went to law school.
02:10You can get confirmed.
02:11How come I'm not there?
02:12No, I'm going to take – I'm going to let the Supreme Court make that decision and
02:17go from there.
02:18I have my own point of view as to where I think that should come out, but it's not
02:22terribly well-informed.
02:23Okay.
02:24I wanted to thank this immigration decision by the President today to move on to legalize
02:27spouses of undocumented immigrants.
02:29Is that a good move by President Biden?
02:32Yeah, we'll have to look at that.
02:33I just don't know the numbers involved and haven't focused on that yet.
02:36Okay.
02:37Thanks for your time.
02:38I appreciate it.
