First 100% electric flying boat put into service this autumn in Stockholm
Swedish company Candela launches its new P-12 electric boat, which is said to 'fly at 25 knots' above water and generates 'very little amount of waves'. The shuttle ferry, which will be a mode of public transport, is due to welcome its first passengers next October in Stockholm. "It's amazing. It feels like the future," says head of the R&D testing of Candela’s P-12 Andrea Meschini.

00:30Okay, we think we are good to go.
00:59Twist the circle and go.
01:14Of the Stockholm project.
01:16Okay.
01:17So it's four.
01:30It's amazing.
01:31It feels like future.
01:33You're basically flying at 25 knots without hearing any noise, without feeling the waves.
01:40And it's so stable and yet so simple to drive.
01:44That it really makes it so amazing.
01:48I mean, I don't have other words.
01:50The idea is that the ferry has two wings below it.
01:54So it's able to fly out of water when it's going fast enough.
01:59And then it's basically much more efficient than any other boat.
02:03Because it's out of the water and then just the wing is under the water.
02:07And it's sustaining the weight of the boat.
02:10So this boat is able to consume up to 80% less than a regular boat.
02:15And so that's why, even if it's only battery operated, it can fly for a longer range.
02:21And it can cover the distances that are needed.
02:24So there is a very little amount of waves that are generated.
02:28So this doesn't disturb other boats.
02:31And this doesn't create waves that erode the coast.
02:35That's why we are allowed to fly even faster.
02:37Even in those areas where speed is limited.
02:40So the first boat that will go into passenger traffic will be here in Stockholm.
02:45And it will serve a small commune west of Stockholm.
02:50And it will go to the city centre.
02:53The commuting time now for them is about one hour.
02:57But we will be able to cut it down to like half an hour.
03:00Because we will be allowed to fly faster even in the inner part of the city.
