00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. allowed the largest water reservoir project outside of Luzon
00:07which is sure to help many farmers.
00:11This is the story of Allan Francisco.
00:15We were able to reach the farmer, Renato,
00:17who was busy planting rice in his farm in Kalinog, Iloilo.
00:22He's doing well.
00:24And it rained, so his plants are full of water.
00:27Unlike the past few months, he had a hard time because of El Nino.
00:31It's really hard when we're just waiting for the rain.
00:34If the rain will come anytime, we can plant rice.
00:42But if there's no rain, we can't.
00:44Renato's problem is almost over
00:47because he allowed the largest water reservoir project outside of Luzon
00:53which is sure to help many farmers.
00:59These are the dams of Halaur River Multipurpose Project Stage 2.
01:03The first stage of the project was completed more than four decades ago, in 1982,
01:08during the time of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
01:11The JRMP2 has three key components.
01:15The irrigation development, the environmental and watershed management,
01:20and institutional development.
01:22Through this project, the farmers will be able to continue their agriculture in Iloilo.
01:29We are thankful to President Marcos and the government
01:34because the Halaur River Project was successful.
01:39It will help the farmers a lot.
01:43It is expected to increase the production of rice in Region 6 to 160,000 metric tons.
01:49It will also help in producing 6.6 megawatts of hydroelectric power.
01:54Additionally, it is also proposed to develop inland fishery,
01:58floating solar energy systems, and eco-cultural tourism in the near future.
02:04This project is just the beginning of the development of water resources in the country.
02:10Our water development projects would not just bring irrigation or potable water to our people,
02:16but will also help address flooding, produce food, generate electricity, and develop tourism activities.
02:34In Bagong Pilipinas, we are strategically harnessing our finite resources, especially water.
02:40We are also wisely investing our limited funds in projects that will bring optimal development
02:46for the most number of beneficiaries in the most efficient manner.
