00:00Skarloey, the little engine, loves all the sights and sounds along his line and knows them very well.
00:22One morning, soon after he returned from being mended, he was enjoying his journey more than ever before.
00:31Along the way, he met Rusty.
00:36You know, he said, if I couldn't see these familiar faces and places, I'd think I was on a different railway.
00:43You've done wonders with these rails.
00:46Rusty laughed. I'm glad you're pleased.
00:49Manager said let's mend a track so well he won't know where he is.
00:53And we did. And you didn't, if you take my meaning.
00:58Skarloey liked this hard-working diesel.
01:01There's still one bad bit, warned Rusty.
01:04Just before the first station, an engine might come off there, particularly Duncan.
01:09He will rock and roll along the line. Look at him right now.
01:16I shouldn't like his passengers hurt.
01:19What about me? I'm a plain-speaking engine and I believe I'm plain-speaking. Speak up.
01:25Rusty warned Duncan about the bad bit of line.
01:28Grunted Duncan, I know my way about. I don't need smelly diesels to tell me what to do.
01:35Rusty felt hurt.
01:40Duncan banged about the yard, then he clattered crossly to the station.
01:47James was already there, waiting for him.
01:50You're late, he snapped.
01:52Ah, no, said Duncan. It's that smelly diesel's fault.
01:56Rusty tries to teach me how to stay on the rails and then goes off leaving me to find my own cultures.
02:01You poor engine, sympathised James. I know all about diesels.
02:05One crept into our yard and ordered us about.
02:09I soon sent him packing. Duncan was filled with admiration.
02:13He didn't know that James was boastful and sometimes didn't tell the truth.
02:18Send Rusty packing, send Rusty packing, snorted Duncan.
02:22He climbed the hill furiously.
02:26Well done, boy. Keep it up, encouraged his driver.
02:31Soon they were near the first station. Duncan was pleased.
02:35Nothing's happened, nothing's happened, silly old diesel.
02:38Clever me. And he rocked and he rolled along the line.
02:44Steady, boy, checked his driver. But it was too late.
02:51So leapers and ballast. I'm off.
02:54And he was.
02:58I warned him, said Rusty. But all he did was call me names.
03:02The little diesel refused to move.
03:05I'm ashamed of you, Rusty, said Skarloey.
03:08Think of the passengers. What are they going to do?
03:11Oh, I'd forgotten them, yes, of course. We must help the passengers.
03:15And Rusty roared into life.
03:24Duncan stood sad and solitary.
03:27He couldn't rock and roll now.
03:29Oh, dear, he thought. Everyone will know how silly I am.
03:34He thought. Everyone will know how silly I am.
03:41The passengers had to get out and help too.
03:44They weren't very pleased about that, but worked as hard as they could.
03:51They carefully levered Duncan back onto the line.
03:56After that, Duncan was extra careful all day.
04:06At last, evening came.
04:09Rusty, he whispered, thank you for helping.
04:13I'm sorry I was rude to you.
04:15That's all right, Duncan. I wish all diesels were like you.
04:19Let's be friends.
04:21That's all right, Duncan. I wish all diesels were like you.
04:24Let's be friends.
04:26Suits me, replied Rusty.
04:28We'll mend that bad bit of rail first thing tomorrow.
