00:00Disney 80s and 90s Celebration and Concert is a world premiere
00:03with the iconic music from these incredible decades.
00:06And it's coming to the Hollywood Bowl July 19th and 20th.
00:11We are so lucky today to have with us Corbin Bleu.
00:14He has been in everything you have seen him
00:17in High School Musical, Broadway's Kiss Me Kate,
00:20Disney's Jump In, In the Heights, Godspell, Holiday Inn,
00:24you name it, Corbin, you have been there.
00:26So you've got to tell us more about this special production.
00:30And your part in it.
00:32This is a celebration of 80s and 90s Disney music,
00:37which to me is the golden era of Disney music.
00:41I mean, it's Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid,
00:46which of course, you know, all of the Howard Ashman
00:48and Alan Menken era, Hercules, Toy Story,
00:52A Goofy Movie, Pocahontas, the list goes on and on.
00:55Basically every single amazing Disney movie
00:59that we grew up with, we are putting it on in concert
01:03with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performed
01:06all by Broadway performers, television performers,
01:09as well as animation performers.
01:12So we have some of the original animated voices
01:15like Jodie Benson, who was the original
01:18Little Mermaid voice of Ariel.
01:21She is actually doing this concert
01:23and we're going to be able to hear her perform
01:25part of your world.
01:26Oh, that's so cool.
01:27And what I'm excited about, the official voice of Goofy.
01:32Yeah, Bill Farmer, Disney legend.
01:36I'm going to get to perform alongside Bill Farmer.
01:39It is truly, this concert is a dream come true.
01:42I'm living out all of my childhood fantasies
01:47and getting to not only perform alongside these legends,
01:50but to perform this beautiful music
01:52that really had such an impact on my childhood,
01:55on so many childhoods.
01:57And I know just overall it's going to be a night
02:01that I feel like we're all going to just walk away
02:04feeling like we're kids again.
02:07And you mentioned the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
02:10They are incredible, of course.
02:11And Sarah Hicks is conducting.
02:13So right there, that's exciting.
02:15Tell us about the gospel ensemble.
02:18Yeah, so we have, they're called the DC6.
02:21There's more than six of them.
02:22They're just called the DC6.
02:24But we do have a gospel choir
02:27that is backing us up throughout the entire performance,
02:31which is really going to come in handy,
02:32especially during all of the Hercules songs.
02:37And we have all of the gospel choir that gets done.
02:42And then we have an entire ensemble of dancers,
02:45all Broadway dancers.
02:48Wow.
02:49Yeah, it truly is such a stellar cast of performers.
02:55All people just that are masters of their craft.
02:59And again, also all grew up with this.
03:02And so not only are they incredible at what they do,
03:06but everyone is going into this
03:08with a love and passion for this music.
03:11Have most of them performed on the Hollywood Bowl stage?
03:15As far as everyone within our show, I'm not sure.
03:20I have.
03:21I actually did Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl,
03:24and I also did Mamma Mia at the Hollywood Bowl.
03:27Yeah, so this will be my third time performing there.
03:30I'm so excited.
03:31And the previous two times I was doing a show
03:34where I'm playing a character.
03:36So I'm so excited to be able to go
03:38and actually just do a concert at the Bowl.
03:41Right, that's gonna be incredible.
03:43Yeah, I cannot wait.
03:46And I heard there's some new arrangements
03:48of some of the classics.
03:50Yeah, a lot of the music has been rearranged.
03:54Some of the music arranged for the first time.
03:58Yeah, I mean, A Goofy Movie is a great example.
04:03When the movie first came out,
04:06I don't think they knew what a cult following it would have,
04:10what a sensation it was.
04:11So I think most of that music was just like left
04:14on the stands in the recording booth.
04:16So there's like no archive of that music.
04:20So they are completely rearranging
04:23these charts from scratch.
04:26Okay.
04:27It's quite a feat.
04:29And it's incredible that it's being done for this concert.
04:34So the attire, this is very fun.
04:36You're supposed to come dressed in your favorite
04:38Disney garb or character.
04:41What's the story?
04:42Oh, well, I mean, it's the Hollywood Bowl,
04:45which if anybody who hasn't been to the Hollywood Bowl
04:48in itself as an experience, it's such a magical venue.
04:53But just as a night out to go listen to Disney music,
04:56we're encouraging people come dressed up
04:59as your favorite Disney character if you want.
05:01It's just a beautiful evening under the stars.
05:04It's all outdoors.
05:06And it's one of the most iconic venues
05:10that has hosted some of the most incredible stars
05:15and performers of our lifetime.
05:19And I love that pretty much any generation
05:22is going to have fun there.
05:24I mean, the millennials can relive their VHS tape glory days.
05:28Seniors are going to know the music.
05:30A whole family of little kids can wear
05:32their princess dresses and come.
05:33And pretty much any age group would love it.
05:36It'd be a good date night, too, don't you think?
05:38Absolutely.
05:38Absolutely.
05:39I mean, it's Disney.
05:42You can't go wrong.
05:44I mean, and specifically this era,
05:49the 80s and 90s, to me, I feel like I still, to this day,
05:55I love going to see a new Disney animated film.
05:59But there is something about this particular set
06:03of films during these particular decades
06:07that when I go back and watch them,
06:09I don't think it's just nostalgia.
06:11I really do think that there is something to behold.
06:15There's something special about these films.
06:17It is.
06:19I think these movies, they're like woven
06:21into the fabric of our lives, which
06:23sounds very crazy and trite.
06:25But I really think they are.
06:26They're just part of who we are, especially
06:29if you grew up here going to Disneyland and watching.
06:32You don't have to have.
06:33But also, I love that the tickets are affordable.
06:36They start at $15, which is unheard of in LA anywhere.
06:41And for a show like this, where you get the Hollywood
06:45Orchestra, Sarah conducting, you guys from Broadway,
06:50the dancers, the gospel, my goodness.
06:53I mean, what more?
06:55The only thing I would say to people
06:57is last year sold out, the 100 years of Disney.
07:01Yes, last year.
07:04And it's the same producers and writers.
07:07Last year, they did 100 years of Disney as a celebration.
07:11And this time, they're focusing specifically
07:13on 80s and 90s.
07:13But yeah, that show completely sold out last year.
07:16And it was a major success.
07:18And everyone loved it.
07:20So again, it's the same group of people
07:22that's bringing you this one.
07:23So it's going to be just as fantastic.
07:26So we recommend that you hurry up and get your tickets.
07:29And we get to hear stories from behind the scenes.
07:33And what's up on the screens as we're listening?
07:36Yeah, so well, throughout the show, it is a concert.
07:40And as we said, we do have a lot of the original Disney
07:44legends.
07:44So we're going to get to hear stories from their time
07:48recording this incredible music.
07:50And then throughout the performance,
07:52we're using the legendary Hollywood Bowl screens
07:57that is going to be playing a lot of the animated films
08:00and clips throughout the performances.
08:03Wow.
08:04That's going to be so much fun.
08:05And if you want to get tickets, you go to hollywoodbowl.com.
08:10Anything else you want to add, Carbon?
08:13I mean, I cannot express enough how excited I am for this night.
08:20Anyone that I have told about it is super excited about it.
08:25It's just going to be such a beautiful celebration.
08:27Who doesn't love Disney and this particular music?
08:32And it's going to be performed so well.
08:35So if you want to enjoy a night for the summer,
08:41come on to the Hollywood Bowl.
08:43Last thing, do you have a favorite Disney movie?
08:48You know, that's always a difficult one for me,
08:50especially given this particular era.
08:53Beauty and the Beast has always been up there, number one for me.
08:59And of course, I am going to be singing a couple of songs
09:03from Beauty and the Beast.
09:05But there are a number of other ones.
09:07I mean, Nightmare Before Christmas had a huge impact on me.
09:12And we actually do have a little bit of a Nightmare Before Christmas section in this.
09:17Hercules was always a big one for me.
09:19Of course, we have a Hercules moment.
09:21And so it's tough when you have all of the best of the best
09:27wind up one after another.
09:28Yeah, exactly.
09:29Well, your enthusiasm is catching.
09:31And I'm sure anyone watching this is going to want to go see you
09:35and everybody else along with you and hear this iconic music.
09:39What a fun night it's going to be.
09:40Again, for tickets, hollywoodbowl.com.
09:42And thank you so much, Corbin Bleu, for joining us today.
09:46We appreciate you.
09:48Thanks for having me.
09:49Take care.
09:50You too.
09:51And have fun.
