The annual trip takes youngsters out to the coast in East Lothian where the parade usually starts from Edinburgh Zoo through Murrayfield then through the City Centre passing through Haymarket Train Station then onto Princes Street up the Mound then takes a sharp left down the Royal Mile then moves onto towards Meadowbank towards Portobello Road passing through the town there then onto Musselburgh.

Taxis are decorated in balloons and make their way to Archerfield.

The taxi parade has been taking place since 1947 and has been running every year for more than 70 years. Many of Edinburgh's cabbies take the day off to transport children to the seaside. The Taxi vehicles are decorated prior to the parade with streamers, balloons and pretty much everything. They also usually hold a competition to name the best decorated Taxi.

The 2019 event was a year full of controversy as during the parade an incident took place while the parade made it's way down the Royal Mile. A traditional part of the parade which has always been a feature for decades known also to locals is the spraying of water onto unsuspecting members of the public as children use all manner of water pistols and water balloons to soak people not paying attention. It's all lots of fun and I've also been on the receiving end of a few soakings once or twice and think it's a fantastic part of the event and it helps children with special needs have a day to remember.
