Edinburgh black cab taxi drivers involved in the annual children’s taxi outing, decided to try to collect 900 Easter eggs to give out to local kids to mark Edinburgh’s 900th birthday.
Within two weeks the Capital city cabbies smashed that target and collected an incredible 1,686 Easter eggs through Easter egg and cash donations to hand out to deserving kids.
Four Edinburgh taxi drivers filled their cabs with the Easter treats and took them along to the City Chambers on Thursday, March 27, where they were waved off by the Depute Lord Provost Lezley Marion Cameron, to be passed onto special schools, foodbanks and children’s groups across the city, as well as the CHAS Hospice in Kinross.

00:00Edinburgh Taxi Drivers collected an incredible 1,700 easter eggs to be given out to children across the city.
00:08The event was organised by the Annual Children's Outings Committee.
00:12I've done the outing for I think 33 years now and I've been involved with a good bunch of guys in the committee through these years.
00:21Every year we've tried to surpass ourselves and last year we gave out easter egg selection boxes at Christmas time.
00:30So we decided that 900 easter eggs would be a fitting thing to do.
00:37The selection boxes we paid for out of the outing funds, which cost us quite a bit of money.
00:44But this time we decided to do our usual begging and we've raised 1,686 eggs.
00:53Handed in by people who did cash donations that we bought eggs for and the people have just been fantastic.
01:01Just the support through Facebook and that has been immense.
01:06We're here today to have the Deputy Lord Provost, Leslie Marion Cameron, wave goodbye to taxes that are loaded up with almost 1,700 easter eggs.
01:22It's been donated by members of the public and predominantly the cab trade.
01:29The initiative was started by John for Edinburgh 900 and his target was 900 easter eggs.
01:38But he raised that target within just about a week and the eggs just kept coming in and they're still coming in even now.
01:48So the final figure is going to be nearer 1,700 than the original 900.
01:57After filling four taxis at the city chambers, the cabbies were seen off by the Deputy Lord Provost who was full of praise for the Edinburgh City cabbies.
02:06What it means for us as a city is it's once again a great example of how our black cab drivers are very community minded and thoughtful.
02:14I mean at Christmas time they donated lots of selection boxes.
02:18During 2nd Tuesday of June every year there's a children's outing for charity.
02:22It's just another great example of the charity community minded things that the black cab drivers do to just bring a bit of Easter cheer, early Easter cheer to children across our city.
