00:22Jhansi's fort is situated at the top of Bagheera
00:25which is located at the northern part of India in Uttar Pradesh.
00:31This is a 17th century architectural monument
00:35whose royal construction took place.
00:37After which, against the British East India Company,
00:41in the first battle of independence,
00:44a lot of destruction took place.
00:47Inside the four walls, with the magnificent and creative art of construction,

05:35The Jhansi Fort was built in 1613
05:38by the rulers of Bandela Rajput Sardar
05:41and Urcha Veer Singh Jodeo Bandela.
05:44It is one of the strong forts of Bandela.
05:47In 1728, Muhammad Khan Bangash
05:50attacked Maharaja Chitrasal.
05:53Peshwa Bajirao helped Maharaja Chitrasal
05:56to defeat the Mughal army.
05:59As a token of gratitude, Maharaja Chitrasal
06:02presented a part of his kingdom to Peshwa Bajirao
06:05in which Jhansi was also included.
06:08In 1742, Narav Shankar was made the
06:11Subedar of Jhansi.
06:14In his 15-year period, he not only
06:17decorated the Jhansi Fort,
06:20but also built other buildings.
06:23In 1757, when Peshwa called Narav Shankar
06:26back, he named him Madhu Govind
06:29and then Babulal Kinhai was made
06:32the Subedar of Jhansi.
06:35From 1766 to 1769, Vishwas Rao Lakshman
06:38served as the Subedar of Jhansi.
06:41Then Raghunath Rao was appointed
06:44as the Subedar of Jhansi.
06:47He was an extremely capable administrator
06:50who increased the income of the kingdom
06:53and built the Mahalaxmi Temple and
06:56Raghunath Temple.
06:59After the death of Shiv Rao, his grandson
07:02Ramchandra Rao was made the Subedar of Jhansi.
07:05In 1835, with his death, his
07:08imperial administration ended.
07:11He died in 1836.
07:14Then the British rulers
07:17accepted Gangadhar Rao as the king of Jhansi.
07:20Raghunath Rao's inauspicious administration
07:23left Jhansi in a very bad financial condition.
07:26However, after him, King Gangadhar Rao,
07:29who was a very good administrator,
07:32was obviously very generous and compassionate
07:35and the local population of Jhansi was very satisfied.
07:38King Gangadhar Rao married Manikarnika Bai,
07:41who was named Lakshmi Bai.
07:44He gave birth to a girl in 1851,
07:47who was later named Damodar Rao,
07:50who died after four months.
07:53One day before his death,
07:56the king adopted a child,
07:59who was called Anand Rao, the son of Gangadhar Rao's cousin.
08:02The adoptive British political officer
08:05gave the king a letter
08:08in which it was instructed
08:11that the child should be treated with respect
08:14and the Jhansi government should give
08:17a special amount to his widow for the rest of her life.
08:20After the death of the king in November 1853,
08:23Damodar Rao, who was born Anand Rao,
08:26was adopted.
08:29The British East India Company
08:32adopted the Lopsi view,
08:35rejecting the claim of Damodar Rao's throne
08:38under Dalhousie.
08:41The state was seen applying this view in its areas.
08:44In March 1854, Lakshmi Bai was ordered
08:47to leave the palace and fort for 60,000 rupees
08:50in the form of annual pension.
08:53In June 1857, the rebellion broke out
08:56and it took control of the fort
09:00In March and April 1858,
09:03the company forces besieged Jhansi
09:06and captured it on April 4, 1858.
09:09Queen Lakshmi Bai bravely
09:12escaped from the fort by riding a horse
09:15before looting the city by the hands of the Rozhki army.
09:18In 1861, the British government
09:21gave the fort of Jhansi
09:24and the city of Jhansi to the king of Gwalior,
09:28but the British took Jhansi back from Gwalior
09:31in 1868.
09:34The best time to see the fort is from October to March.
09:37February is also the time when Jhansi
